NBA Draft: Does Shabazz Muhammad have ELITE Athletism by NBA Standards?

there seems to be debate on here and other draft analysts and experts as to whether or not Shabazz is an Elite athlete. Some say hes good but not great others say hes elite even by NBA standards. I haven't really seen the athleticism that he showed in high school(which looked pretty elite) so far but i think that will come soon.

Overall? No, but I think

Overall? No, but I think he'll have some elite physical qualities for his position, like length and body strength.

Physically Shabazz reminds me

Physically Shabazz reminds me of an out of shape Luol Deng at the moment.

I think a lot of people don't

I think a lot of people don't know what 'athletic' really is. This is so much more than just a vertical jump. There are a lot of things like leteral quickes, foot speed, upper and lower body strength, reaction time etc. Westbrook, LeBron, Blake, D-Rose are all Elite Athletes! Even Rondo is a fantastic Athlete if you ask me, he is so quick and long and like 3 to 4 seasons ago he added some weight and I really think he is very strong for a point.

An elite NBA Athlete is someone who could be sucessful in another sport like track and field, or soccer and football.

Btw I think Steve Nash was really athletic a few years ago, some people only think vertical when they talk about that.

To answer the question, from what I have seen from Bazz he is a beast and build perfect for the NBA wing position. If I only look at the 2 position I don't see too much competition for him the upcoming years. Harden for example has a body build like a boxer but is not the best athlete imo. He is a very very good athlete but not elite, his biggest plus is that he knows to get to any place on the court without needing elite speed or crazy handles, like Uncle Drew and K-Love he knows how to play an old mans game.

Bazz is an elite athlete but needs to find ways to score without relying too much on it.

I think he knows how to score

I think he knows how to score without relying on his athleticism. He knows how to move without the ball, hit the o-glass, leak out early in transition, he'll lean into a defender to take away their ability to extend, etc. He' doesn't look like a player who's just trying to run and jump over people.
I think his athleticism is comparable to Harden's, who isn't an elite athlete, but underrated as an athlete. I think Harden's body control is elite though. He's got Shabazz beat in that area, whereas Shabazz might be a tick faster in terms of straight line speed.

Harden

I love the comparison not only for athleticism (not elite but more than adequate) but scoring ability, craftiness, and how savvy he is. Only difference in my opinion is play making ability. Harden can and willingly creates for others where I feel like Shabazz rarely looks to dish and will not make others around him better like Harden.

is it me or do some players

is it me or do some players like Chris Paul and James Harden have the body type that looks out of shape and uncut where guys like knight and derozan have the complete opposite

CP3 has wide hips. He'd

CP3 has wide hips. He'd probably look rounder if he wasn't a professional athlete. He's still quick, but he was quicker and more athletic before his knee injury. Harden just looks like a guy who doesn't do a whole of of conditioning in the off-season and works his way into shape through the season, but he's a good athlete too.

I think what shapes people's perception of these 2 guys' athleticism is the way that they play. They don't look reliant on athleticism. They use it when they need it, but they understand that they can beat their man and the defense with skill, savvy and timing.

I guarantee that Bazz doesn't

I guarantee that Bazz doesn't put up better numbers then Harden at the combine and I can't believe you called Bazz elite after breaking down what it takes to be an elite athlete and realizing it's a combination of things, a combination of things that Bazz doesn't have. Bazz only really has elite strength for his position. Put him against Iggy and you will see a huge difference in athletic ability.

It's not "elite", but he does

It's not "elite", but he does have great athleticism especially if you consider that he is a 225lbs SG and is built like a tank.

I would rank his athleticism

I would rank his athleticism 8.5 not elite, but pretty damn good. The one thing that stands out is his arm length which is elite in the area of Wade/Arenas/Carter. Rondo having that insane length for his size and position contributes to him being an Elite pg because he isn't the greatest athlete, however is pretty damn good also.

Not overall

If we are talking about how high he can get up , then no but he has two elite attributes which are wingspan and how explosive he is

Bazz is not an elite athlete

Bazz is not an elite athlete plain and simple. Would you consider Melo an elite athlete? Probably not, that's reserved for truly elite athletes like Lebron, Wade, Wall, Rose, Iggy, Westbrook and so on. Bazz has elite length and strength but lacks an truly elite speed, hops, and a first step.

He is still young so perhaps

He is still young so perhaps he'll get stronger, but I'm not sure he'll ever posses elite strength. I don't think he'll ever be big and strong as Harden. A lot of people think Harden looks uncondition, however He looks very muscular and jacked to me.

Thank God!!!!

Thank you lakeshow22. I have been saying Bazz is not a 10 in athleticism on this board for the longest. I also don't think he deserve a 96 on this board from the mock draft. this board has him listed as a small forward and gave him a 8 for size at 6'6 come on man. This board is a funny. They have McLemore as a 9 on athleticism. Now Im a big Hill fan and they gave Hill a 89 wow. Hill is 6'7 sf and they give him a 7. Bazz is all hype! Bazz is the type of player that can get a GM's fired. People need to truly watch this kids game and ask yourself is he really as good as people say he is?

Kinda similar to MKG in that

Kinda similar to MKG in that he's a really good athlete but he's not a freak like Gerald green. He'll look very athletic with his long as and hustle and his desire to dunk everything will give him plenty of poster opportunities
