NBA Ball: Will Kelly Olynyk start for the celtics?

Will olynyk start at center for the celtics? Looking at the the celtics roster It's seems that olynyk is the best option for them, though there's been some debate as to whether or not he's actually a center. Some say he's better off as a stretch 4.

Do you see olynyk starting at center ? If not who? How good and productive can he be as a rookie?

Probably won't start. I'm assuming this will be their starting 5;

PG: Rajon Rondo
SG: Avery Bradley
SF: Gerald Wallace
PF: Jeff Green
C: Kris Humphries

Hard to even gauge this

Hard to even gauge this Celtics roster...so much to trade away
No he shouldn't start at center. I'd start Sullinger, Bass or Humphries down there because they're stronger

Injuries asideProbably

Injuries aside

Probably Brandon Bass starts at center. He's undersized but he's also the most physical big they have. Humphries will probably start at power forward. I would like to see Sullinger and Olynyk play together though, think it would be interesting to see Sullinger guard centers with his wide body and strong base. And of course Olynyk's shooting and offense would probably compliment Sullinger in an inside/outside style.

The Celtics success will

The Celtics success will depend on the interior play this year. They have some good rebounders but have virtually no shot blocking. Fab Melo is the only guy on their roster who is an above average shot blocker but I don't see him getting any meaningful minutes this season. I think they will be counting on Olynyk a lot this season whether he starts or not.

I don't see Rondo starting

I don't see Rondo starting the season. So I think Bradley will be at point, and Jeff Green is tall enough to play the PF, but is definitely better suited at SF. Wallace I believe will be coming off the bench for the younger guys to get minutes. Eventually Kelly Olynyk will end up starting in the season. Sullinger is a rotation bench player, he isn't good enough to keep either the pf or center spot.

Olynyk

Maybe not from the start but later in the season Kelly will start at whatever position the coach decide he's better suited. My humble opinion is that he's got the tools to be a starting center for a non-contender which Boston currently is.

By the end of the season

I think he'll be starting. Either in order to keep the tank job going, or if Humphries goes back to being a double-double guy, the Celtics could try and move him for another asset.

The line-up you brought up seems legit. I think Jordan Crowford and Kris Humprhies will gain significant minutes off the bench too.

Celtics should trade some of

Celtics should trade some of they PF's for one young SF. Wallace is good but old. Jeff Green is better at 4.
What do you think about Brandon Bass/Melo for Landry Fields/future second round pick?

Fields is questionable

Have to wait and see if Fields comes back fully from that elboy surgery (or whatever it was). Without a 3 point shot his 6+ mil contract is terrible. If he plays better this year he may be a servicable enough player.

What does Bass have left on his contract anyway?

I think Humphries will start.

I think Humphries will start. He's a hell of a rebounder and would be a double double player for the Celts. I do think Kelly could get as high as 27 mpg. He'll get PT and will probably start a few games filling in, but his D has a long way to go and that, I think, could keep him behind Humphries right off the bat. Regardless, I think he'll get enough burn to be in the ROY mix.

my opinion

Without rondo

Bradley - Crawford (they really need to sign another point for depth, Crawford can create best out of this group of shooting guards)
Lee - Brooks (scoring punch off the bench) - Bogans
Green - Wallace (6th man) - Joseph
Bass - Sully- Olynyk
Humphries - Olynyk - Melo

With Rondo (No Tanking)
Rondo - Crawford
Bradley - Brooks - Lee
Wallace - Lee - Joseph
Green - Bass / Sully
Humphries - Olynyk - Melo

Once Rondo comes back i think they're going to have to become small and be able to run the court, if they want a chance at winning

With (Tanking)
Rondo - Crawford
Bradley - Brooks / Lee
Green - Wallace
Bass - Sully
Humphries - Olynyk - Melo

The team will be slow and not have much scoring which will cause them to fail for wiggins or parker

Humprhies is going to have a nice come back year. I don't see Olynk as anything more than a solid backup as an NBA player.

There are so many options for them to go with their starting lineup and rotation. This Celtics team might not be as bad as you think. Olynk really surprised me this summer league. I think they need to get the young guys as much PT as possible. I see it eventually coming to what i have below.

Starting:
Rondo
Brooks
Green
Sullinger
Olynk

Bench:
Bradley/ Crawford
Brooks/ Lee
Wallace/ Joseph
Bass
Humphries/ Melo

At first C - Humphries PF-

At first

C - Humphries
PF- Sullinger
SF - Green
SG - AB
PG - Rondo (if injured then Marshon Brooks)

Midway

C - Sullinger
PF - Olynyk
SF - Green
SG - AB (though Brooks has a chance to snatch it away bc of his offensive skills)
PG - Rondo

but in addition the celts will have a really solid bench

C - Humphries/Faverani
PF- Bass
SF- Wallace
SG - Lee or Brooks
PG - Brooks or Pressey
