NBA BAll: BJ Young most under rated guard in the draft?

BJ young who plays for Arkansas had a very surprising freshmen season last year and is putting up better than 20 per game this year but is all over the place on mock draft boards.some have him in the top 10, most in the lottery and some at the end of the 1st round.

Will BJ Young be a lottery pick? where does he rank among the guard prospects? is he a pg or sg? whats the scouting report on him. whats his potential and upside?

The fact is BJ is a combo

The fact is BJ is a combo guard, and that's what makes his draft stock hard to gauge. It's hard to take a undersized combo guard in the lottery unless you're sure he can become a starter. (ie cleveland w/ Waiters) I could see him landing on a middle-late first round team and being a sensational Jason Terry type of 6th man. Not as much shooting but similar upside.

How is he a combo guard if he

How is he a combo guard if he shows no PG skills at all?
He's a 6'3 180 lb SG.

He doesn't necessarily have

He doesn't necessarily have to display pg skills to be a considered a combo. You can play the 1 in a pinch if you can breakdown the defense and get into the paint, pressure the ball and defend at the top of the key. Looking back at a guy like Dominique Jones college career i dont think many people would say he had "pg skills" at the time, but he's played the 1 occasionally for Dallas this season. Im not saying your'e going to let a guy like BJ run your team for 20mins a night.

It's hard to argue with his

It's hard to argue with his low assist numbers but I think he's a very capable passer with fine vision. I don't know whether it's because he's far and away the best scorer on their team or Mike Anderson's run and gun system or what but the guy can pass and isn't unwilling. The willing part to me is what separates him from gunners like Jordan Crawford who can pass as well but loves to shoot to much to be a "point."

Young reminds me of Damian Lillard. Same size, quickness and skill level. Young's three point shooting hasn't been there but it's early and it's hard to believe he's a 15 percent shooter from deep. Young and Lillard's per minute assist numbers are also very similar too: 3.6/4.0 for Young per 40 minutes and 3.9/4.2 for Lillard in first two seasons. Lillard's highest assist/40 for a full season was 4.6. When I saw Lillard play in college, I didn't doubt he had the game management skills to be a point. I feel similarly about Young.

Maybe 2014???

Young is very talented but i think it just boils down to a numbers game, only a certain amount of guards are going to be first rounders this year and he doesn't really have a defined postion at about 6'3. Is he better than or have more upside than Shabazz Muhammed, CJ McCollum, Ben McClemore, Archie Goodwin, Marcus Smart, Michael Carter Williams, Lorenzo Brown???? You could argue Deonte Burton and Isaiah Cannon but those guys are borderline 1st rounders imo. I think BJ Young is an NBA caliber talent, but just not a 1st rounder this year.

BJ is not the most underrated

BJ is not the most underrated guard in this draft, it's trey Burke.
