Memphisboy14ParticipantI find it funny that NBA 6th men don’t get the respect that they deserve all because they don’t start. When someone is asked to be the first person off the bench it is often viewed as a slight towards the player when that isn’t the case. When you’re asked to come off the bench, provide instant offense, and support a bench full of inferior players while the starters are resting that is a pretty difficult job to accomplish.
Another thing people need to remember is that just because a player doesn’t start doesn’t mean that the player starting over them is better. Sometimes another player’s skillset meshes more with the starting line-up than the player coming off of the bench. For instance nobody would ever say that James Harden (during his OKC days) was not better than Thabo Sefolosha. But Thabo was a 3 and D guy whereas James Harden was more of a ball dominant type of player who’s talents were best suited coming off the bench. Now that he’s playing for Houston and starting we see how good a player he is now.

Jester87ParticipantIt’s true, people focus too much on who starts, but the most important thing is who finishes games. Ginobili, Harden and many others are/were sixth men but they are/were always on the floor in crunch time.

WetalkinboutpracticeParticipantOff topic… But one has to think he’s the odd on favor to to win the 6th man award this season, as he’ll likely be the third guard behind Dragic & Bledsoe. Should be fun to watch.

tuck243ParticipantI forgot they had him until watching Summer League the other day…
Why sign IT or is Ennis out of there?

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantRyan Anderson is my favourite if he stays healthy. When Davis or Asik needs to rest he should be coming into games, so he should be able to get around 30 MPG, and 16 PPG and 6 RPG wouldn’t surprise me.
As far as the OP goes I agree with him 100%. People often forget that Havlicek and McHale started off their career as 6th men and were integral parts of multiple championship teams as well as being two of the greatest players in NBA history. That being said neither of them got the individual stats or glory until they began starting in Boston.
