NBA 2K14 vs. NBA Live 14 - What do you choose?

How goes it forum? I'm a pretty big fan of video gaming, and I love the experiences that I have had with the NBA 2K franchise, dating all the way back to NBA 2K10, the game that revitalized my love for the game of basketball as a whole. With E3 currently going on, we have seen teaser trailers for both NBA 2K14 (starring LeBron James) and NBA Live 14 (starring Kyrie Irving). If you have yet to see these teasers, here are the links to them:

NBA 2K14: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADfjrh12L38

NBA Live 14: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAwdHWkZXQ4

With both of these trailers, graphically, they both look stellar. 2K hasn't shown much gameplay, and of the gameplay showed with NBA Live, it looks good, but not to the extent of 2K in my personal opinion.

Now there are many details that are still to come about certain game modes, controller settings, and things of that nature. However, both games are being released for the next-generation of console gaming, and both have a ton of potential to be great.

With NBA 2K14, we do know that the black top mode is coming back, as well as a virtual currency system for your My Career players. Signature skills will be making there return, and the most unique news that has been released is a new game mode called "Path to Greatness". Unfortunately, it sounds like it could be the new name for a My Player game mode, but hopefully it is something new, and an entirely new experience.

With NBA Live 14, we have been shown their vision as to how to create a successful NBA video game. To begin with, they are introducing a newly enhanced dribbling system that allows you to take control of NBA players dribble moves that will ultimately alter how the game is played. With signature dribble moves from different NBA stars, you can take control and full advantage of these to create space for both yourself and teammates to score the ball. To me, this sounds very intriguing.

Another thing that NBA Live is trying to revolutionize is real-time stats. After every game, over 70 different statistical areas will be recorded and be put into the game to help alter how the player plays in the game, trying to make the game look and feel as realistic as possible. With this, NBA Live is trying to bring a realistic game to us, and it sounds promising. It won't take 2 days to update the stats for these players like it did in NBA 2K13, as EA Sports has promised that it will only take up to an hour after every single game to adjust these stats, resulting in new player tenancies and updated skills.

The final thing that they have announced was a "Live World", which basically allows you to play the game each and every day and will allow you to do something new each and every day. There hasn't been much released on this, but it sounds phenomenal for those who find basketball games repetitive.

There has also been rumors of an NBA Live Ultimate Team game mode, but it has yet to be confirmed.

With all of this pointed out, it seems like NBA Live is finally serious about their comeback, and they are trying to hype their game as much as humanly possible. As always, 2K is pretty quiet, saving the details for a later time, closer to the NBA 2K14 release date.

With all of the hype and news around these two games, which do you guys look forward to the most? As a video game fan, I would sure like to know.

I've been on 2K since the very first one with Allen Iverson on the cover, if I remember correctly (think they called it ESPN 2K or something). I thin 2K Sports took over in 2006 with Shaq on the cover. I've dabbled with Live many many times, but I always seem to come back to 2K.

It's just better all-around in my opinion.

This First game was NBA 2k on the Dreamcast, which on a side note is still a fun game.

Easy.

Until Live can prove to me that it doesn't suck, then 2K all the way.

EA needs to earn my trust before I buy a game. I'm not gonna waste $60 on some crap.

From what you wrote, I'd have to give Live 14 a chance. It seems like they've been working on this specific game these past few years. I feel like it's going to destroy 2K.

How can EA sports make a game

How can EA sports make a game that looks that bad. I've played all the Lives for Xbox and they consistently got worse and worse. I really don't get how madden is so good and Live is so bad. Put some money into game development damn.

The best basketball game I've played was NBA Inside Drive which was exclusively Xbox original

NBA Games

I'd take 2k14 in a heartbeat. I'll just print out some other player and cover LeBron. 2K is awesome, I hope they bring back MyTeam.

I dont know about you guys, but I have been buying 2k games since the xbox 360 came out. I remember I used to ONLY play NBA Live on the original xbox, then the 360 came out and I swear the game just tanked. I am curious to see if it ever becomes the dominant basketball game again...I mean it is EA.

Yesss. I never played any 2K

Yesss. I never played any 2K games before Live 05 and I never bought any Live games after 2K7. Live 05 was easily one of my favorites, mainly because of the awesome dunk contest and 3-pt shootout. The 2 I played the most are probably Live 05 and...wait for it...Courtside 2002 lol. Not to mention Jam but I don't think that's in the same category as Live and 2K

I know for a fact I'm buying

I know for a fact I'm buying 2K. I've already pre-ordered it. I mean, I'd like to see some improvements in certain areas, BUT they've earned my trust. I know that I'll get a great game.

Live on the other hand... I'll check out the demo or just play it in Gamestop or something first lol.

I'm with you. I pre-ordered 2k already.

I dont think I'll buy Live. Maybe after a friend or someone I know buys it and I play it just to see if it's any good.

2K14 hands down

NBA Live 14 won't even get released just like the past 2 attempts made by EA. When EA loses its licensing for NCAA Football and Basketball, it'll be a godsent. Biggup to Ed O'Bannon and the rest of the NCAA athletes trying to get their money from the NCAA for using their likenesses for all of those years.

I'm just going to buy both, I

I'm just going to buy both, I bought the first 3 NBA 2K'S and hated them back in the day, didn't by another one until NBA Live stopped being made and Jordan was on the cover, i've bought it ever since, I still hate the gameplay but I do love my player, that's all I played it for. I have everyone NBA Live ever made all the way back to Sega Genesis and i've been disappointed not having the game the last few years. I'm going to buy it because i'm a true fan, and I know even if they bring back the controls and gameplay from any of their older games, it will be better than NBA 2K. It's funny NBA Live's game started really sucking when an NBA 2K guy took over.

NBA Live needs to be the 2 NBA Madden, 2 player franchise, Be a Legend mode, Coach mode, Legend teams and players, Bring back NCAA Basketball to do export rosters, All-Star weekend.

Funny Live had all of that stuff in the past besides the be a legend/my player mode.

2K13

I thought 2K13 sucked compared to 2K12. The players seemed bigger relative to the court making postups difficult. Passing from the post to open perimeter players wasn't worth it because players who doubled in the post could get out to the three point line way too easy. Unless you had Wade or Paul or Westbrook finishing at the rim for guards was non-existent. Plus the control/combination of post moves was minimal. The presentation of the game was lacking as well. 2K definitely took a step back in 13.

You're crazy, I'm an avid

You're crazy, I'm an avid slasher with my guards and have no problems scoring at all. I have a randomized association team with guards like Holiday, Arenas, Foye, Neal, & Goudelock all of which are more jump shooters than slashers and I get layups or free throws all the time.

Post moves are minimal? There's way more post moves in 2K13, there's a long list of moves and combinations you can make in the post.

Sounds like you just need more practice.

Long time Live fan here to

Long time Live fan here to tell you Live ain't sh*t anymore. For the last past 3-4 years they haven't came out with the game they advertise. I finally gave in and hopped on the 2k wagon this year and am pleased to say it doesn't get any realer than having identical shooting forms for every player in the game.

EA is a f*ckin joke to me now aside from NCAA/Madden and that's questionable at times, they are good for false advertising their basketball series. Live graphics may be legit but again they ain't sh*t.

Sincerely former Live die hard

Whoever want it on 2k the gamer tag is shylo3716 for ps3

Fellas I was waiting for

Fellas I was waiting for someone to bring this up! I loved NBA live up until the franchise started to fall apart around 08. I was the kind of guy that would have both and I think with the next gen systems i will probably give both a go

VC totally ruined the game

VC totally ruined the game for me. Last year's game was just bad imo with Jay-Z's face plastered all over the game. It was more like NBA 2KJayZ.

Just my opinion, but NBA Live

Just my opinion, but NBA Live slowly went downhill after '98.

2k has had their share of terrible games though. NBA 2k9 had so many bugs (for me at least) it was pathetic and I had a hard time getting into 2k4 to 2k6 back in the Ps2 days.

With that said, I'd still take 2k but I'm glad NBA Live is pushing them again. Competition can't hurt.

Wow, obviously at this state

Live 14 is graphically impressive, but we don't know if that footage shown at e3 was actually gameplay and not pre-rendered. The first trailer they showed for the Xbox One reveal was pre-rendered cgi.

What 2k showed for 2k14 was definitely gameplay, and it looks mind-blowingly fantastic! Finally no more baggy jerseys! Yay!

I've always been a 2k person, honestly though, this is the first time that Live has appealed to me in such a way that I am actually most likely going to end up trying both because man do they both look amazing.

If there was a College Hoops

If there was a College Hoops 2k to with NBA 2k14 or NCAA Basketball to go with NBA Live 14... I live both games but I do believe NBA 2k will sale more, I'm very interested to see how much NBA Live has improved though, I use to play that game until I got hip to NBA 2k5 and I've been a 2k Fan ever since.. Nice to see Kyrie on the cover as well, same justice is due to others who thought LeBron should have been on a game cover. Great Graphics can't wait !

I Think eventually they may do this but from what I've read 2k just got the rights back for college basketball, if we could start a my player from college it would be hands down the best game I think they could make. I still play college hoops 2k8 best dynasty/legacy made for me.

Damn, I remember back when I

Damn, I remember back when I was 8 or 9 years old, Live was the best, but 2k took over with 2K7, and Live has been playing catch up since.

Live is waaaay too cartoony, needs a lot of work. Graphics wise, they're still about 6-7 years behind 2k, I'd take 2k in heartbeat, that Lebron trailer is sooooooo sick. I can't wait!

This brings back memories! My

This brings back memories! My journey of console gaming basketball began with NBA LIVE 97, it had Mitch Richmond on the cover. I was infected and it is what led me to be the basketball fan I am today. I didn't know anything about basketball at the time, it was a chance pick up due to not seeing anything else interesting at the store. I continued buying the game every single year, and it was always my most anticipated release every year as well.

I own NBA LIVE 97, 98, 99, 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, and 05. Then when it came time for NBA LIVE 06 release I went to the store as always however it was sold out, I was distraught and was told it would be two weeks before a new shipment. But I needed my fix and asked the guy "what else do you got?" He showed me NBA 2K6, it had Shaq on the cover which was my favorite player growing up, so I figured why not? I took it home and gave it a try without much for expectations but to my surprise the game was amazing. It just felt so realistic, the graphics were better, the movements were better, the shooting mechanics and dribbling moves were more realistic. I was instantly happy and to this day have never touched NBA LIVE again, I now have 2K6, 2K7, 2K8, 2K9, 2K10, 2K11, 2K12, and 2K13.

I can't wait for NBA 2K14...need my fix.
