417basketballfanParticipantTo me he is in the same boat that drummond and perry jones were in before their draft. Both were expected to be stars in college but didnt live up to expectations. Yet both had so much potential that i would categorize them (as with turner) as high ceiling but also low floor guys.
So at what point in the draft would you considering taking the risk for myles turner?
Could he fall as much as Perry did in the draft?
Will he be a steal like Drummond was or a bust like Perry?

drk3351ParticipantI don’t think Turner was that disappointing. He simply was on a underacheiving team. Turner himself put up excellent stats etc. The difference between him and a guy like Drummond is Drummond was/is a freak athlete. Turner is a below average one.

HobbyOGParticipantI think he will be a bust..he relys on the three ball too much, plays like he’s scared of contact and plays like he has two left feet. No discipline at Texas, you could see he could do what he wanted. This won’t happen in the NBA.

MopgrassParticipantI’m unreasonably high on Turner and think he’ll go 4-8 (probably not 4… Phil’s a little old school and probably wouldn’t get 100% use out of Turner’s skills). He blocks shots and shoots 3’s and is, therefore, super useful. Still, I totally agree with your assessment on his being afraid of contact. It’s a big issue. He can’t be a center if that’s how he plays. If he can play center, he’s worth so much more. He’s already 240 pounds and should already push college guys around, but doesn’t. I think he might need to be 260 pounds to be an effective PF. He’ll need the right coach.

zer0d0ubtTurner’s been picked apart like he’s some kind of finished product already. Bigs take the longest to develop, and he already has an awesome jump shot.
In two years he’ll probably weigh close to 260 hopefully, and as such he could be a good finesse center defensively and be a great stretch center offensively. Being able to pull opposing centers out to the 3 point line will be huge, and his teammates will have unlimited opportunities to score inside.
I just think he’s a couple seasons away from that, while he continues to put on weight and plays a very solid PF in the meantime.
The only reason I might not take him over Okafor is injury concerns with his bean pole legs.
But he probably has more upside than Russell or Mudiay for sure. Just being able to stretch the floor from the center position is worth way way more than the stats he’ll put up, because his team will be wildly efficient offensively, and probably defensively as well with his rim protection.

TheLastWordParticipantHe doesn’t move great and doesn’t jump great. Generally, you need at least one of the two or you’re behind the 8 ball. Steals are a better predictor than blocks for athleticism and Turner was at a dismal 0.3
His offense might outweigh the negatives. High risk, high reward player.

zer0d0ubtyou omitted his incredible length, which wasn’t so smart. Jumping is way less important when you have crazy length and good instincts/timing.

Malik-UniversalParticipantanyone thats deemed him as a stretch 4 potentially at the next level needs some explaining to do because he shot 27% from 3 at texas.. so idk what awesome jump shot your talking about.. and hes more than a couple of seasons away from being a productive player.. hes pretty damn raw as a player

zer0d0ubtHe shot like 83% from FT. He’s going to be fine from 3, even if it’s just from the corner for a couple/few years.

r377ParticipantTurner did look good in the first half of season but then struggled in the second half. I dont know much about his injury concerns ? Did the injury effect his play in the second half of the season ?

Mr. HookShotParticipantMight just be the lack of strenght that started to catch up with him, running out of gas

omphalosParticipantIf he lands at the right team he could have as good a career as guys like Towns, but fit and a good training staff is going to be crucial.
Skillswise he’s got a lot of attractive qualities, but obviously he’s pretty far off his ceiling.
I really hope he slips on draft night and the Celtics get him, would look great with Stevens guiding him.

RickyRubio9ParticipantI went to school with Myles at Texas and played pickup with him and saw him play a lot. His shooting form is pretty good in my opinion and from playing with him he was lights out albeit against regular students, but I’m a big believer in this guy and hope he succeeds. He’s working with people to fix his slouching problem and hopefully that’ll help him in the long run. He’s also more athletic than people give him credit for and his per 30 numbers were a lot better then his normal stats but texas was stacked at the front court so he didn’t have as big a role as other freshman .

sitlbitoParticipantHe just did some sort of tests and it came out that he didn’t have any structural problems. He just needs to get stronger. What’s so intriguing with him is that he has the two most coveted strength in the NBA,being able to protect the rim and shoot from outside. He won’t fall past the top 10.
