My Thougt on comparing Rubio to Maravich/Nash
1st minkenike plz check out my mock and tell me what you think...http://www.nbadraft.net/node/6353
but to answer your views, you hit everything on the head except scoring. I think he will need time to develop on the O end.
I think he could be a better Jason Williams then Steve Nash. I was so pumped by the hype but i think him coming over to the NBA from europe will make him smarter and will always make the smart play over the right one.
I would never mention Rubios name in the same sentence with Pistol ha. Pistol Pete is on a wholenotha level. I see Rubio scoring 12 pts 6 ast 3 reb his 2nd year in the nba. His rookie year will be rough. I don't think he will ever be as good as Nash or Maravich. I can see some similarities though between the 3 players as you pointed out.
I hope he is more like maravich. This league needs another show boat passer (Magic Johnson) style passer. So kids grow up actually practicing passing skills. I grew up a huge John Stockton fan, In Jr. High and High school I got just as much satisfaction making a nice assist than hitting a shot down. Thanks to Johnny boy!
LOL what if, Rubio threw on the 44 and played? i would say he's making a statement....
I agree. Nash and Kidd were the showboaters for the early part of the decade. Now Rubio and Paul and dominate the next.
but ya know what they say how nobody can be comparedd to MJ well nobody can be compared to Maravich not saying hes as good as Jordan but hes on another level if they counted 3's in his time he would have the all time record for points, in some games he would bring up the ball to halfcourt and just shoot it and it would go in, once at LSU he took a running shot at the buzzer from the corner didnt even look went to te lockeroom got dressed and left without even seeing his shot went in THATS LEGENDARY
rubio will never be close to the scorer maravch was,i think maravich is one of the greatest players never talked about, but also rubio is great and like soo many young players coming in can't shoot great, he will be a good scorer.nobody Can say he can't score because he once scored 51 and that says something on any level
IF ANYONE WAS PAYING ATTENTION..RIGHT AFTER THE DRAFT LOTTERY SOMEONE SPOKE TO MEMPHIS COACH LIONEL HOLLINS..HE MENTIONED THAT THE GRIZZLIES WERE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO CREATE PLAYS FOR OTHER PLAYERS..THAT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE THEY ARE LOOKING TO TAKE RUBIO AND NOT THABEET..
Its funny how you say an unproven player to be on the same level as nash even funier to say faster. How many of rickys game have any of you accuatley watched not highlights "Games". Im not sold on any euro player unless they already played in the usa bogut, linas, patty mills, kostu kofus all sure things. Ok hes from spain so what he still a euro prospect
he will struggle and people said he held his own and agaisnt points like chris paul he was fresh of the bench andplayed few minutes how can you judge say he will do that a full 40 minutes ok he has the basketball IQ but does he have the agression??? power?? speed?? most important experince of playing and american style of basketball
dajuan wagner scored 100 points in high school where is he now bj mullens scored more then 51 more then 1 time hes nowhere to be found in ohio comes off the bench while a center that didnt drop big numbers in high school starts before him. Him droppin 51 says something bout the level of comp hes playing wilt chamberlin couldnt drop 100 in todays nba kobe dropped 81 on toronto in the rebuilding process not the spurs but not to take away anything from kobe he dropped 81 on nba cal players in todays nba thats quite a task
well i jave seen him play multiple times cuz i live in spain and he is a very talented player i think he has matured quite a bit because last 2 years or so he seemed really cocky in my opinion especially in the u18 euro championship. he does have really good bball iq and long arms which helps get so many steals. i think he would struggle athleticaly in the nba even though he is pretty fast and can dunk (nothing very impressive though) he is very skinny and rarely makes and1 plays when fouled.I dont know if was a result of injury but in a lot of games ive watched he seems to struggle shooting the 3 even getting multiple airballs. He is also very turnover prone but he does have the ball in his hands most of the game.
The one thing that sticks out for me with Rubio is his IQ. He just seems like the smartest guy on the court when he's playing (albeit overseas with non-NBA talent). In this way he reminds me of Chris Paul who seems to just understand the game at a different level than anyone else.

Scoring- Rubio has the potential 15-19 ppg player like nash but maravich was a tremendous scorer
Passng- he's more a showman than nash he's creative like pete maravich but can also run the pick n role like nash. all three see the game differently then every1 else .they all have/had uncanny vision ,and i think Rubio has the potential to avg 9-13 asts,
Athleticism- Rubio's speed in my opinion ls faster than alot of people give him credit for,it's maybe a notch below nash and maravich but he's more athletic than nash, don't no bout maravich
Defense- Better defender than nash with his quick hands,IQ,anticipation, and wingspan
