This is just a theory of mine, but do you think Manti Teo created this fake girlfriend to not only garner more publicity for him and the school but to cover up his sexuality? When you look at it his friend that helped him create this hoax had a bunch of pics of them together in his instragram and was the one who would tweet back and forth like lovers on twitter. Norte Dame is a strong catholic school and the catholic community would have shunned Manti if his sexuality was out, maybe Notre Dame helped play a part in it as who would want their leader and team captain to be openly gay? I think Notre Dame covered his sexuality up for the greater good of the fooball team like they covered up Prince Shembos rape of a female that later went on to kill herself a few years ago. I'm not homophobic im just putting my 2 cents in on this weird story. What do you guys think?(please no ignorant comments). Teos side of the story just doesn't add up; all I know is I can't wait for Catfish next Monday! P.S. have an open mind if you want to elaborate on this weird subject
I hadnt even thought about it that way. But the only thing I'm certain about is that Manti is going to have to make another public announcement admitting to being in on the hoax. This s**t is crazy! I cant even sleep because I'm anxious to know whats going to surface tomorrow. Im ready to hear Mike and Mike's outtake on the whole thing being that one of them has very strong ties to Notre Dame and may have some inside information. Manti's reputation is plummeting fast. By the way, Deadspin did a hell of a job.
his homosexuality never once crossed my mind. i do however think he may have had a part in the whole hoax. the first three years of his career at notre dame were decent at best. i think that him and his buddy tuiassosopo (or however the hell you spell it) created this story to make his name popular this year so that people wouldnt remember the 3 years of decent play he had and only remember the year he overcame tragedy to excell on the field. i dont think he ever dreamed he would go undefeated and play for a national championship. i should say at this point i dont think teo is a bad dude, i think the fact that his team having as great a season as they did is a testament to how great of a leader he is, but i think even he didnt see it coming. once notre dame started playing well the burden of the lie grew heavier and heavier and he needed to get it off his back on Dec. 26th. obviously this was weighing on his mind during the national championship game as he had arguably the worst game of his career. none he less i think if i was an NFL GM i wouldnt touch the kid knowing that he has the potential to deceive even the closest people in his life in order to gain personal benefit.
I agree he is a snake, I don't want to question his sexuality but when your the best player on a national team, and captain yet you don't go out and flirt with girls like regular college guys do let alone stars, it raises some eyebrows. I think his family was wondering about him so he created the fake girlfriend; also his family was supposed to "meet her Saturday" yet she supposedly died Wednesday, seeing that Teo probably knew that the hoax was up so he improvised and faked her tragic death
Most of the time the simplest answer is the solution to a problem. It's like when a kid makes up a lie and it builds and builds on itself until all these wild things have to be true for the story to be true. Most of the time the simplest answer is: he lied. I'm also not sold on this Notre Dame 100% football graduation rate. There's no way they find every single incredibly motivated, intelligent gigantic 6'5 350 pound linemen. I'd be willing to bet the UNC scandal is the tip of the iceberg.
He is Mormon, so pre-marital sex is forbidden. He could have just used that as an excuse. Just said why talk to girls if I'm not allowed to follow through.
For him that probably would have been a better idea than creating a huge elaborate story. But it's funny that you say that, because I'm staying abstinent too and the sad thing is most people wouldn't think twice if I told them what you said lol
That'd be a pretty elaborate hoax to bring attention to his sexuality, that was never in question. I don't know what is going on so this is speculation, but I don't know why a guy would purposely go out of his way to make this up. Plenty of college guys are single, but not having a girlfriend isn't going to make the public think a Heisman candidate linebacker playing for Notre Dame is gay.
He is either gay and wanted to cover it up, because who is going to question his sexuality when he doesn't date for a couple of years because he is still getting over the death of his girlfriend..... OR..... he wanted to gain sympathy for the Heisman. Can't really see any other possibility.
You know I was also thinking yesterday that he did it to cover up his sexuality too. This is my theory, it would be easier for him to say at the time that he is in a committed long distance relationship than rather say he is gay (and there is nothing wrong with that) when he is not dating any girls at Notre Dame, where he is one of the star players. Then probably when some of his teammates asked what she looked like, I think he didn't know what to do so he got his friend, however you spell his friends name, to help make all the pictures and tweets. That is when I think he thought he needed to end it the hoax, and decided to have publicity in mind, because if you are going to go out, might as well go out with a bang. Thus he killed his non existent girlfriend, using a "I'm not over her yet" excuse if a girl came up to him. Frankly, he said in the past that he met the girl and her family, so this definitely isn't a prank.
I think the sexuality thing makes some sense. If you are mormon, go to a catholic school, are the main guy on a football team, its probably not going to end well by saying you are gay. So tell everyone about this awesome girl you met and how she died tragically, and now no one is questioning why Manti isn't about that hooking up with girls life.
I don't know at all f this has any legs. For all I know, he has had numerous girlfriends and is quite straight. But the problem I have is if he wants anyone to believe his victim story, he needs to explain a few important things.
Number 1: Why have you previously said you met her. What did this accomplish, if it wasn't true? Why would someone pretend to have met a person they only know online?
Number 2: Why would you only talk/internet chat with this person, and make her your girlfriend, and never even try to meet her? You are a football player, you played Stanford this year, you have had ample, ample opportunities to meet her. And if it was one of those things where she kept avoiding you, why stay with her? No one does that. Actually, no one starts dating someone without meeting them. Even people who use those cheesy dating websites ACTUALLY GO ON A DATE once they meet. Just being content with not meeting/having any face to face contact over multiple months? COME ON! And it's 2013, you aren't even Skyping?
Number 3: So she died/was dying. You don't take a few days off of practice to see your girlfriend before she DIES? What the hell? Name one athlete who wouldn't take time away from the game if their girlfriend or wife was DYING. And what happened, did someone fake call him to tell him she died? Acting as a family member or doctor? COME THE FCCCUK ON.
Number 4: Why wait until deadspin uncovers this to reveal it, if you are innocent? Why not contact the authorities, why not be outraged? It just makes no sense.
Clearly Manti is lying about something. If this got serious at all, he would have wanted to meet her. If they were boyfriend and girlfriend, he would have wanted to meet her, or at the absolutely very least, would have visited her before death. Its BS, and he has A LOT of explaining to do.
