As a Cavs fan, it was a complete shock to find out they had the first pick in the draft. This got me thinking that a franchise can’t possibly get so many great picks and continue sucking so bad.

So I thought of a completely unrealistic offseason scenario I think would finally make the Cavs a good team:

    1. Draft Andrew Wiggins to play SF

In this scenario the Cavs keep Bennett as their PF and I think a Jabari Parker-Bennett combo won’t work too well, so the Cavs take a two-way SF with star potential.

    2. Then make two trades:

    1. Get Derrick Favors in a sign and trade with Utah for T. Thompson and Jarrett Jack (This works if Favors signs for about 10 mil.)

Utah gets a PF to pair with Kanter and a veteran presence off the bench in Jarrett Jack.

    2. Get Jrue Holiday and Ryan Anderson for Kyrie Irving and A. Varejao (pick up his team option).

This doesn’t really solve any of NOP’s problems, but at the very worst they get better for next season and get two expiring contracts at the end of it, at best, they succeed  to keep Kyrie happy and get a star to pair with Anthony Davis.

    3. Fill out the bench with free agents and the 33rd pick

Perhaps: Draft Jarnell Stokes, resign Dellavedova and Alonzo Gee, sign Jodie Meeks/CJ Miles and Lavoy Allen/Greg Stiemsma to fill out their bench.

    Cavaliers roster:

    PG Jrue Holiday (Dellavedova)

    SG Dion Waiters (Meeks/Miles, Karasev)

    SF Andrew Wiggins (Gee)

    PF Ryan Anderson (Bennett, Stokes)

    C Derrick Favors (Zeller, Allen)

I know this won’t happen and I’m not even 100% convinced that this is a great team, it does, however, have a good combination of scoring, defence (Holiday, Wiggins and Favors being really good defenders) and an okay bench (I really do think Bennett will turn out to be a solid player and eventually will get into the starting line up with Anderson playing a lot of minutes and providing scoring off the bench).

I think Holiday and Waiters will play really well together, also having good shooters like Anderson, Waiters and Holiday will open up the lane for Wiggins and allow Favors to get a bunch of offensive boards.

How many games would this team win? I’d say about 45-48 in the first season, then eventually with the progress of Wiggins and Bennett and with another draft+offseason to get a stronger bench – they just might become contenders.

What do you guys think? How silly is this scenario?

    I like step 1.

People seem to forget that the Cavaliers have some cap space to play with.  A guy like Zach Randolph (PO) would be a nice get.

Trade 1 – I do yesterday if they’d take it.  I’d even throw something else in.

    Trade 2 – I pass.

     Extremely Silly

Favors already signed an extension with the Jazz last year.

Jazz wouldn’t exist if they made trades like that… Thompson? Jack? lets be real

Do you think Fvors is so good or Jack and Thompson are such garbage?

I thought Thompson would complement Kanter really well offensively and defensively. He’d get around 13 ppg and 10 rpg too. he’s a young guy who can still develop into a better player.

Jack was seen as a great free agent just a year ago. He looked bad in the dysfunctional Cavs offense, but he’s still the same guy, he’s a great player to have on your team and will consistently provide around 10 ppg off the bench.

Jack 4 years 25 million. for a rebuilding team absolute poison. Jazz are not going to pay back up pointguard that much money when they are not contending.

So why would Jazz downgrade to Thompson as well as pick up over paid contract of Jarrett Jack. Yea I’m assuming Cavs are your team but that’s just not justifiable.

Favors – better potential, younger, and better athlete and taller. Not saying Thompson or Jack are garbage but for a player that Jazz look to as a cornerstone of a franchise this trade would NEVER happen

I don’t think the Jazz would or should do the deal either, but just to clarify on J.Jack.  The first of those four years is already done, and the last of the four isn’t guarenteed.  What anyone taking him on would be committing to is essentially two years at $6.3M each.  That isn’t too atrocious for a team – assuming they need a veteran 3rd guard.

Favors for Thompson and Jack? Seriously! My dream scenario for the Cavs is they get caught doing something illegal and lose there draft picks for the next five years like what happened to the Wolves.

Why would Meeks sign with Cavs? It’s not like he will be signed for minimum or cheap. Cavs can’t afford Meeks

I partly agree with all the points, critisicm and the massive amount of negs which is yet to come, however, Cavaliers have lots of cap space and they can absolutely afford Jodie Meeks.

Why would you pay a swingman around 5M/year in your case if you are keeping Waiters.

Meeks is going to be commanding at least that after a breakout year from the Lakers. Only way for him to come be a back up for Cavs is if they were to overpay him.

Yea they can afford him money wise, but can’t really afford him in a sense that they dont’ have luxury to pay for someone like that when Kyrie is up for a extension as well as glaring needs at Front court positions

if I were a Cavs fan would be not having to look to winning draft lotteries as the franchise’s lone positive in the last five years.

Stand pat at #1 and pick Wiggins.  Defender they sorely need.

Trade 1: Waiters and Tristan Thompson to the Hornets for #9 pick and Gerald Henderson.  They grab Lavine with that pick.  Wiggins and Lavine would be athletic wing combo with Irving.  They will still have cap space left to make some more moves as well.  Hopefully for a PF or C.

With the second round grab Cory Jefferson.  He’s a great athlete and think he can be a solid defensive role player.

    PG: Irving/Jack/Delladova

    SG: Henderson/Lavine

    SF: Wiggins/Gee

PF: FA PF (Randolph, Pau, Monroe)/Bennet/Zeller

    C: Varajoe/Hawes/Zeller.

Just sick over the fact that they got the first overall pick again.  The NBA needs to be run by a basetball person, not a lawyer.

people want to get rid of Kyrie so bad… LOL..

He’s one of few players that can get a bucket when you need it.. And can just absolutely dominate when he’s on… You need that when this team take a step forward and end up in the playoffs… I don’t get y’all at all sometimes, but ok..

That was your dream scenario and that is all you came up with?
You must not have been a Cleveland fan for long.

We’re championship deprived and my Dream scenario is

    PG: Kyrie
    SG: Wiggins
    SF: Lebron
    PF: Kevin Love
C: Godzilla, Big Foot? Bill Russell’s 21 year old clone.

…sad but true he’s a star, he’s a stud but he’s poorly conditoned and frequently injured.  Cavs have the rare oppurtunity right now to cash is on his stardom and their good fortune and tool up tremendously for the years to come.
