LeBron James will never receive another MVP trophy. With two other players who have the capability to get it he won’t get the offensive stats that he has gotten previous years. He might have a chance at the Defensive player of the year. But i personally think he is overrated on the defensive end. All he does on defense is block shots. He is not a lock down defender like Rondo, R. Brewer, S. Battier, and even Kobe Bryant. But who i think is gonna receive the MVP this next season is Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, minus me if you want but if he takes his team far enough Tyreke Evans. But it won’t be LBJ, Dwyane Wade, or Chris Bosh. Hate on me if you want but thats what i think.

He averaged more steals than blocks so to say he only blocks shots is inaccurate. Also, he has a 102 defense rating for his career which is 3 points better than Kobe’s at 105. So, LeBron averages more rebounds, blocks, steals, and has a higher defensive rating. Please tell me how he is bad at defense.

LeBron inst going to put the same stats that made him a 2 time MVP… Durant is a lock in the race, but you cant underestimate Kobe and D12… Tyreke is too young, only a sophmore, and the Kings are young too, they arent’ going to make the playoffs… If he makes the All-Star team he should be lucky…

i didnt say he was bad, i just said i dont think he is good enough to get the Defensive player of the year. I think someone who works his butt off like Rondo should get it. He is the best on ball defender in the game.

Stats do make an MVP in the NBA. Thats why it is mostly a different person every year. Its the person who takes his team far in the playoffs, great all around stats, and leadership.

It’s not about making it far to the playoffs, it’s about being the Most Valuable Player for the best team. That’s all.

i wouldnt be so fast to say he will never get an MVP again… LeBron may average numbers we haven’t seen in a long time ala Magic… think about it… he will get his points for sure around 22-25 and his assists are gonna rise from 8 to 10-12… if he can get assists passin to the scrubs on cleveland imagine him passin to a cutting wade or bosh or miller spotting up and plus i also think his rebounding numbers will be around 7-9 possibly more… he wont get it this year but he may get it again in his career… to early to say he wont get it again

MVP for next season is likely to be Kevin Durant. You can’t argue with his sort of talent and growth on a team that needs him to step up and deliver. Thunder could be 4th in the West, which would be good enough for an MVP. Reke is no chance this year, but quite possibly in the future. Agreed about LeBron. Melo actually has probably the next best chance after Durant if he acquits himself and has a good run with injury. He was in MVP form to start the season but dropped off somewhat.

Also, in regards to the MVP criteria, Jordan’s MVPs didn’t all come when he had the best team.

tony is right what if he averages a triple double then what? and believe me that is very possible for a player like him and the players playing with him will make that a bit easier… and if u think LeBron only blocks shots u dont know anything… look at what Pierce did against him… NOTHING, he was on lock down in the playoffs both years he played LeBron… so to say he isn’t a really good defender is just stupid, plus mike brown was a really good defensive coach

To be fair, Pierce was saving his energy for defending LeBron rather than trying to take him in isolation in this year’s playoffs and he won their duel in 2008.

Also, can’t believe I forgot these guys, but Chris Paul and Dwight Howard will easily be in contention if the former can stay healthy and the latter can get a post-game.

Playoffs have nothing to do with the MVP award.. The winner is decided upon before the playoffs even get going… I could see Lebron averaging a triple-double for next season.. I mean think about what is going to happen for him.. He will no longer be the only scorer on a team.. He will now have the ability to run the team and commit to rebounding.. If he does average a triple-double, it would have to be something like 17-11-10.. He wouldnt have a huge one for the whole season.. I cant see him scoring more than 20 per game..

My top 10 MVPs for next year look roughly like this:

    1. Kobe
    2. Durant
    3. Roy
    4. James
    5. Howard
    6. Paul
    7. Anthony
    8. Williams
    9. Rose
    10. Dirk

The defensive rating argument is moot. Paul Pierce has a better defensive rating that Michael Jordan, but we all know he wasn’t a better on ball defender.

I think a few players have a legit chance, but I still think LeBron will win it….Best player with the best stats on the best team with the most hype.
