I’m a Denver resident and Nuggets fan and was fairly happy about drafting Mudiay as he is a physically gifted a guard since Wall/Westbrook and maybe had as much potential as anyone in the 15 draft. But, I’ve been dissapointed with him. I know he’s just a rookie and still a teen, but he just doesn’t have a good feel for the game, which isn’t a good sign for someone who’s supposed to be a PG. It’s not like Malone has held him back, he starts and plays a lot of minutes, and outside of Danilo and Jokic, nobody else is a consistent threat, so he has plenty of opportunity. Maybe he can be a slashing SG, he’s big and strong enough but I just don’t see a franchise PG or even a quality PG. I’m sure he will get better, he SHOULD lol, but I’ve soured on him, I def don’t think he will be the player I thought he could be, and it kills me to see so many really good rookies this season.

    Am I being too harsh?

I would say your not being TOO harsh, maybe just a little a bit. Mainly because they thrust him into the starting PG role on a team without too many disciplined offensive players to help him learn how to run an offense. He is learning one of the hardest positions (in a league where PGs have taken over in recent years) on the fly and hasn’t looked too great BUT he has shown flashes so I want to play the wait and see game with him…I want to see his ability to run the point grow over the next few seasons and subsequently, learn to use his physical attributes to his advantage at the point.

No not too harsh. I was low on Mudiay all along. Mostly because I didn’t get into the draft process until around March.

Most talent evaluation errors are made when people make up their minds around this time of year.

Most draft mistakes high in the draft can be traced to rigid opinions fully formed by Jan-Feb, 5-6 months before the draft.

Mudiay clearly lost athleticism in the year since last playing American HS ball and showing out at the Nike Hoops Summit. His FT% in China was another big red flag.

I compared him to Tony Wroten, and so far it appears I was exactly right.

We’ll see what the future holds, but obviously passing on a Myles Turner sure looks like a (forseeable) mistake.

I’m also dissapointed with Mudiay, although he shown flashes, he’s efficiency is very low, look at his field goal percentage, his free throws and turnovers, He’s inconsistent. But these mistakes will make him better, He has power speed and good hops to thrive. If only he could consistently hit outside shots and incorporate it to his midrange game, he should also develop floaters on different angles beacause not every call can go to him.

I am a Nuggets fan as well.  While Mudiay has played particularly poor on the offensive side of the ball this season, I still have a decent amount of faith that he will develop into a very good, if not great player.  He is really young and Denver is throwing him out there to develop.  While his shooting and decision making has been extremely disappointing, he has shown a lot of flashes.  He is a good playmaker and will become even better with another full offseason of learning the offense.  I also really like our head coach Mike Malone, and think he will develop a special relationship with Mudiay that can help spark Mudiay’s approach.  Mudiay has a great work ethic.  He has all of the physical tools.  I think a few years down the road, he will be a pretty promising player.  I’m hopeful at least.
