Goran Dragic is a legitimate NBA point guard. He’s not the future of your franchise, he won’t get better over the next 5 years. But his well-rounded skillset and ability to play within an offense makes him a covetable option. If George Hill can turn aounrd the Jazz, Dragic can have a similar effect if not more so.

The way I see it, Goran offers three types of value:

    1) Veteran Presence. Ex: Minnesota Timberwolves.

Minnesota losing to Lillardless Portland today was a travesty. This team has only one excuse for stinking this badly, that lack a seasoned player who can help them close out games and stay focused. Goran Drgaic is by no means a ‘vocal leader’ but he’s good enough and experienced enough to command the respect of this young team.

Possible Moves: Rubio, Shabazz and the 2017 first round pick for Dragic.

    2) A Steady Hand who can be trusted with the offense Ex: New York Knicks.

Derrick Rose has been playing better recently. But still, he is not the future of this team. In fact, his tendancy to act like Michael Jordan at the end of games is becoming a consistent liability. That all said, his trade value has never been higher since his knee injury. If NYK could move Rose for a more reliable PG who will set up Porzingis more, especially late in games, that’s a positive.

Possible Moves: Rose and the 2017 first round pick for Dragic and Josh Mcroberts

    3) A downgrade coupled with young assets. Ex: Washington Wizards

Dragic is not a franchise-changing talent. He’s not. But couple him with Winslow and you might be able to get that elite type of players. Winslow’s jump shot is worrisome, but his youth and defensive versatility still make him a coveted asset.

Possible Moves: John Wall for Dragic, Justice Winslow and 2017 first round pick.

I could see Orlando looking at him as well. They seem to not trust Payton much anymore and they are still somewhat in the hunt for the 8th spot in the east. Maybe Dragic and Ellington for Green, Payton and Hezonja.

Do you really think Rubio, Shabazz and a Minnesota pick is equal with Dragic? Rubio and Shabazz is a maybe, but a high pick in the draft of the decade for an 30 years old Dragic, who struggles on good teams? No way… let alone combine them…
On the other hand you also suggest Rose worth at least a McRoberts more than Rubio, Bazz and trading up from 10-15 to 3-7 in the draft is also crazy. Yes, Rose trade value is the highest since the injury, but still close to nothing… He’s on an expiring 21 million deal and I’m not sure he’s one of the top 20 PGs in the League right now….
for the 3rd until John Wall didn’t pull a Gilbert Arenas with loaded guns in the locker there is no way the Wizards should fritter him away… especially since they are coming togheter in the recent weeks.

Good point on Minny. Generally speaking, I don’t think Miami moves Dragic unless they get a good young player or a pick. Riley gave up two first round picks to get Goran so they would have to get some sort of future asset in return.

But yes, you’re right, a 2017 lottery pick is way too much. It should be the 2018 pick or later. If it were that, I think the trade is fair. Rubio’s trade value is next to nothing right now and Bazz is in the last year of his contract. So if Miami did this trade, they would be stuck with Rubio for the next 3 seasons and would have to sign Bazz to a big contract next year. A pick is needed to sweeten the pot.

Wait what? Rose is a liability at the end of games? Have you watched a single Knicks game this year? Derrick Rose has been absolute money in crunch time and has in no way been a liability. You must be thinking of Carmelo Anthony, Rose has continued to be one of the most clutch players in the league and the Knicks have won a lot more games of Rose’s late game play than lost. Rose is a better player than Dragic this year and that is a lateral move for the Knicks. I think they would rather have Rose for the short term who has more upside and find a younger option than Dragic for the long term solution to build with KP. Melo and Rose should not be part of the Knicks future and If I were them I dump them for draft picks and cap space. Luring top tier free agents and getting a few more young pieces should be their plan.  Talent will come to NY in free agency if they have a young core with KP and cap space.

Listen bruh, I watch every Knick game from Burma. Internet is rough in this country, but I make sure to stream every Knick game.  I’m a diehard Knicks fan who would kill to have Dragic at point guard over Dragic.

Rose has been good lately, better than Melo for sure. I don’t think it’s sustainable though. My main indication of it being unsustainable is that, Rose is a point guard who doesn’t compliment the two best players on the team. Simply put, Rose doesn’t pass. He puts his head down and drives to the rim when he wants a bucket. A driving point guard’s first instinct should be to kick it out when someone else closes in. In my opinion, finishing over the help defender can’t be your go-to move when you’re the third best player on the team.

Now like I said, he has been the 2nd best player on the team lately. But I think Melo is still better than Rose and will soon play better.

Defense: Dragic is not the athlete that Rose is, he probably doesn’t create matchup issues like Rose. But he’s shown to be a more committed defender, especially within team concepts. Rose has been atrocious on defense this year.

Shooting. This will help Melo: Melo is one of the best off-ball scorers who’s stuck in an ISO game. One of the reasons that Melo has struggled this year, in my view, is that he can’t get the ball in space. Part of that is because he’s playing will a ball hog point guard. Dragic can draw defenders to the 3 point line. He is also a willing passer from drives.

He’s a legit PG. This means allowing KP to thrive: Hornacek has admitted that the team fails to give KP the ball late in games. I watch Knick games, it’s because Rose has the ball.

In summary, I would take Dragic over Rose for this Knicks squad any day.

I get your points, but still think you are blaming Rose too much, there is a big difference between being a shoot first point guard and a ball hog, and Rose has not been a ball hog. Melo on the other hand….yea. As much as I would like to believe Melo will turn it around, he is not. He is washed up, and will no longer be back to his dominate scoring self other than in short spurts. He needs to stay at the 4 and play within the offense. There is nothing to indicate that Rose’s play is not sustainable, he has consistently been hitting those tough drives his whole career at an efficient rate even post ACL injury. Rose’s athleticsm and health is possibly at the best its ever been since his last major injury. (Notice he is just starting to attempt dunks in games consistently since last major injury) Sure he could get injured again, but I think Rose has more left in his tank than Melo does at this point in their careers. Rose has changed his playstyle, drastically changed the way he lands when he drives and he is much less injury prone now because of these changes to his game.

The biggest legit criticism of Rose is his tunnel vision when he drives, and yet Derrick is finishing at the rim at an efficient rate and Rose drives has been one of  better Knicks offensive possessions this season. If I am the Knicks I dont want either Rose or Dragic in my long term plans. But if the Knicks do happen to slip into the playoffs, Derrick has a gear that Dragic can not get to and if the Knicks want to win a first round series they need that extra gear.

No one is gonna trade 2017 1st round pick before they know where they pick, this goes for every single bad team.
That is why non of those trades makes sense right now,The Heat,Wolves & Knicks won’t trade their pick before the lottery, may be the Knicks with top 10 protection?but then this is a bad value for Miami

Dragic is probably staying in Miami. Tough to evaluate exactly how bad his contract is under the new CBA and cap but it’s not on the good side that’s for sure. He has little to no value right now.

He is a good not great player that is entering the wrong side of 30 in the beginning of a highly paid contract. That means he is getting paid the more money while leaving his prime.

He only made the playoff twice his entire career and was neither successful in the postseason or one of the 2 or 3 key players to get there.

Dragic is still a starting caliber player in this league that can play both guard positions but I don’t think any team should want him, and certainly not enough to give anything like a first round pick higher than 20. Of course there is always Philly where you could get a Jahlil Okafor package, but unless you are also trading Whiteside that makes no sense, and you would need to still believe in a player almost every sixers fan think is trash.

As a veteran leader, he probably is better staying in Miami also I think, since veteran leadership is always easier when the guy has been there for a while.

Dragic is on a hefty salary but not huge compared to what the new contracts are and he has the next two seasons guaranteed so it’s not a rental. But the market may not be that huge a lot of teams have good PGs in situ or other guys as the main ball handlers and there are a lot of good PGs in this year’s draft too.
