Arc12345ParticipantI know this is one of hardest questions in basketball, but who would be on your Mount Rushmore of the NBA? So many names, I’m not even going to name any because I don’t want to sway anyone. But I will list mine as difficult as it is.
MJ, Oscar, Magic, and Bird.
So who do you guys got?

ChewyParticipantMJ, Magic, Lebron, Kareem
I know Russell has the rings, defense and shot blocking. But Kareem has 6 in his own right and I like that he’s all time leading scorer.
I just recently pushed LBJ ahead of Bird in my head… really hard decision. Can’t go wrong with either.

Arc12345ParticipantLarry Bird > Lebron James
Lebron is a great stat sheet stuffer, and I’m not hating. But Larry was clutch. And his numbers, in my opinion, are better. Superior shooter obviously. Lebron might be a better passer which is one hell of an accomplishment because Bird could pass the ball. Lebron’s obviously a better athlete, but to me, Larry is the better basketball player.

SkalAndJamalParticipantThis is super hard cause I dont know if I want a balance between old school and new school, or just what I think is best. If it’s going off what I think is best, I would go- Kobe, Shaq, Magic, Jordan. If I had to do old school and new school, I would go- Kobe, Wilt, Magic, Jordan.

evangelion79ParticipantMichael Jordan (Hes the greatest all around player ever, highest scoring average in history)
Bill Russell (The most championships and an amazing competitor and person)
Kareem (Most points in history, played well into his 40s while still being very productive)
Larry Bird ( The most competitive and hardest working player ever. His stats are incredible, but when you take into consideration his lack of athletisism and that he played with a hurt back most of his career its impossible for me to leave him off. Also he had the chance to be only the second player EVER to tecord a quadruple double but willingly sat out the 4th quarter because he had already ‘done enough damage’

PulseGlazerParticipantNo idea how you leave Russell off. He and Jordan are gimmes. Too easy.
Hard to do Bird without Magic or Magic without Bird, so Kareem will do to split the difference and he covers the 70s too so I don’t feel so bad about leaving Dr. J off.
LeBron is probably last to rep modern era, but I wouldn’t be too mad if you wanted Duncan or even Kobe.
I don’t think it’s about the 4 best – it’s representing eras.

Arc12345ParticipantDepends what your criteria is. My criteria isn’t representing the eras or it’d be it’s own question. To me, it means who are arguably the 4 greatest players ever. In my mind, I try to envision the 4 playing in any era and STILL being dominant. I think MJ, Oscar, Magic, and Bird would dominate in any era.
Obviously it’s tough to leave off Kareem, Russell, Wilt, Kobe, and others…but that’s what makes the question difficult.

Mr. HookShotParticipantFor me I consider 3 players shoe-ins: MJ, Kareem, and Russell (no order).
For the final spot there are various good options, like Oscar Robinson, Wilt and LeBron, but for me it comes down to Magic vs. Bird. Both great players, who not only put up impressive numbers but also made their teammates that much better on their way to multiple championships. This one’s to difficult for me, so I choose Larry Johnson… 😉

I seriously wish I could add a fifth spot for kareem because he deserves to be on there as well but there are only four spots available and I couldn’t see bumping any of the other guys off.

NBAjunkie81ParticipantPeople usually seperate Centers from the other 4 positions or Pre & Post 1980 which is considered the modern era… From 1960 to 1979 b/c the League was only 10 to 13 teams there were So many great players & the ABA had many players who would end up in the NBA Hall of Fame…
So minus Centers – I have Magic, Jordan, Bird & Dr. J – The 1st 3 speak for themselves but people don’t realize that Dr. J in addition to being an unstoppable scorer was a Great rebounder & shot blocker too… His ABA ROOKIE year as a 21 y/o AVERAGED 27.3 points, 15.7 rebounds!!! 4.0 assists & 2.3 blocked shots! these are Center #’s – Insane for a 6’7” small forward to Average 10+ rebounds per game between 21 & 30 years old…
Centers I have: Wilt, Kareem, Shaq & Tim Duncan (Russell & Hakeem are right there too, I agonized over my decision top 4, b/c really these 6 are so even…
Pre & Post 1980 (centers included)
Pre: Oscar Robertson, Dr. J, Wilt & Russell (no particular order)
Post: Magic, Bird, Jordan, Shaq – Jordan accomplish A LOT post 32 y/o – so Lebron might squeeze out Shaq over the next 5 years – we’ll see…
And Finally All Time – just Pure individual Talent: Wilt, Jordan, Bird & Magic (no particular order)
My top 10 post 1980: Magic, Bird, Jordan, Shaq, Duncan, Isaiah Thomas, Hakeem, Lebron, Kobe, Dwayne Wade (no partuicular order & just based on pure freak talent & I didn’t count any players Under 30)
My top 10 Pre 1980: Dr.J, Russell, Oscar, Wilt, Kareem, Moses, Walton, Elvin Hayes, George Gervin, Earl the Pearl Monroe (no particular order)
My Top 10 post 2000: (so players drafted in the Mid 90s up to 2015): Shaq, Duncan, Lebron, Kobe, Wade, Durant, Steph Curry. Dirk Nowitzki, Iverson, Nash

JR RyderParticipantMichael Jordan – Not only the best player to ever play, but globalized basketball market wise.
Bill Russell – He may not have been the first african american basketball player, but he was its first great player.
Magic Johnson/Larry Bird – Greatest individual rivalry perhaps in basketball, ushered in the golden age of basketball in the 80s.

Robb_CParticipantI actually wouldn’t have a problem leaving Jordan off the mount rushmore, cause if you think about it how much of a forefather is MJ really? He did take the league to incredible heights but the guys before him really were the ones who paved the way for him to make a living doing it..thats what mount rushmore is about, not who was the greatest but who paved the way for us to be the greatest.. That being said heres my list.
George Mikan- Hes the George Washington of the game the first forefather, countless rules and theory is based off his play, he was the first real star the NBA had.
Elgin Baylor – Hes the Thomas Jefferson as far as forefathers, without Elgin the Minneapolis Lakers would have went bankrupt, meaning hes the reason the Lakers and one of the NBAs greatest franchises exist today.
Bill Russell- Between all the Social issues and the Civil rights movement Russell stood for, he helped paved the way for players now.
Julius Erving- Dr. J is the greatest influence on the modern NBA, he brought the cool factor and the entertainment factor to the league, Magic and Jordan did it better no doubt but Dr.J is the one who started it all and for that reason he has to be on the mount

Russell…… . Read Simmons the Book of Basketball (not a Celts fan it hard to argue)
Jordan….. No need to explain
Magic…. as much for love of the as his amazing talent.
Jabbar…. Player I really dislike a ton. He basically refused to rebound his last few Seasons but a truly amazing player

Memphis MadnessParticipantI would wear a Dr. J. shoe.
Ok, ok…
NBA Mount Rushmore:
MJ: BEST ever.
Magic: GREATEST ever.
Bill Russell: WINNER. Mr. Basketball IQ.
Wilt: The Myth. I am not sure that the 100 point game and the 55 rebound game really happened. Averaged 50 points a game for an entire season? Didn’t see it… led the league in assists one year? BUT, the reason I have him on the NBA Mount Rushmore… he was on the two BEST regular season teams before the ABA-NBA merger. Well, ok, I think the NBA sent out George Mikan to create a rogue minor league, try out some new things, showcase Dr. J, then bring them into the NBA fold down the line. But, I digress. Wilt was on the great Sixers team that won 68 games. Then he was on the Lakers team that won 69 games including 33 straight.
My Mount Rushmore includes the greatest pro sports dynasty in US history. The 72 wins Bulls team alpha dog, the maestro of the ’87 Lakers (and many more showstopping Showtime teams), and a couple of dominant Wilt squads.
Put another way, if you had an ALL TIME NBA draft you take MJ. You take Magic. You take Bill Russell. And, no way Wilt isn’t a top 4 pick.
