Most ridiculous statements made by commentators during games regarding draft prospects

Projection wise.... Anyone remember a good one?

A few I remember:

Jimmy Dykes (who I like) during the 2007 Jordan Classic said Chris Wright would end up the best point guard in the game which included Derrick Rose.

Steve Lavin saying Erik Williams (Wake Forest) would be a lottery pick. Went undrafted.

**Rick Kamla last year saying he would take Tyreke Evans over Rose and Wall “All the way to a few titles” - Maybe he was talking fantasy?

I remember in a slam mag,

I remember in a slam mag, they were talking about the Atlanta Celtics AAU team when they compared D.Howard to KG, J.Smith to T-MAC and Randolph Morris to Tim Duncan. Randolph Morris to Tim Duncan W.T.F.

Andrew Ogilvy from Vanderbilt

Andrew Ogilvy from Vanderbilt:

There were several TV commentators, and if memory serves me right, Aran Smith had him going in the first round in his mock draft. In the end, I don't think Ogilvy was even drafted. Everybody makes mistakes.

Aran, one of the people who

Aran, one of the people who help you on this site (forgot who it was) writing scouting reports and stuff, saying that Jonny Flynn would be a player who can maybe play overseas after his career at Syracuse. This was a report following the 2007 Mickey D's game I believe. Turns out he only does 2 years then becomes a top pick in '09.

Jonny

For the record, Jonny Flynn is statistically the worst PG in the NBA.

This one is by far my favorite

Anyone here remember who Maciej Lampe was?

Well during the 2003 draft, everyone pretty much had this guy in the lottery (he was 7'1 from Poland I believe). Anyways once the lottery selections passed and he was still on the board, everyone in the audience was chanting this guy's name. So he wasn't selected until the 2nd round by the Knicks. And new York fans went wild as if they have gotten the steal of the century. . I'll never forget how hilarious that was looking back now.

A month ago Bobby Knight made

A month ago Bobby Knight made 2 incredibly ridiculous statements.

Firstly, he said he wouldn't take Perry Jones in the 1st round.

Secondly, he said Marcus and Markieff Morris will be guards in the NBA.

Good additions... What no

Good additions... What no Vitale flashbacks? He's got to have more of these than anybody. Battier #1 pick. etc..

@ Dale - I heard that and yeah both are pretty ridiculous. Marcus might be a 3 but Markieff is a 4 and saying Perry not in first round is just as crazy. Knight saying Stephen Curry was the best passer in college basketball seemed pretty crazy at the time, but appears more accurate now.

@scoutguru - Yeah that was selling Jonny Flynn short, but at the time he was thought to be closer to 5'10 than 6' and he also measured with a very big wingspan. We always liked Kemba over him and that may still end up correct. There's no disputing that Flynn was taken way too high.

@rtbt - Ogilvy looked like a first rounder based on his international play and first year or 2 at Vandy. He fell apart in his junior year and decided he wanted to head over to Europe.....I've gotten ahold of some NBA team mock drafts early in the season over the years and lets just say its a good thing they're not made public.

I agree on Ogilvy. I think

I agree on Ogilvy.

I think everyone had him tabbed as a future 1st rounder when they saw him step onto campus and dominate right from the get-go.

I thought Ogilvy was a NBA

I thought Ogilvy was a NBA Player, I remember after his Sophomore Year I thought he should've came out...
A Big Aussie man right after Bogut had came out as the Number 1 pick a few years before...

Clyde Drexler just said "Derrick Favors should've been drafted late 2nd round"; something along those lines.
(The Rockets are playing the New Jersey Nets right now and they were discussing the NJ Trade)

That comment from Drexler is

That comment from Drexler is beyond asinine.

Yeah, Favors hasn't done much this year, but the talent is still apparent, and look at where he ranks among rookies...

13th in PPG

6th in RPG

Late 2nd round would equate to him being picked somewhere in the 50s.

You're telling me you can find 50+ guys in last year's draft that you'd rather have, Clyde?

Exactly what I thought; he

Exactly what I thought; he brought up why Favors was picked so high and stuff, but I don't really remember all he was saying.
I just wanted to slap him.. Haha.

not a draft prospect but the

not a draft prospect but the Clippers broadcaster just said Larry Bird and Rick Barry are the 2 best passing forwards of all time and that Blake Griffin may be 3. Not Lebron James, Chris Webber, or Kevin Garnett. I mean BG is a good passer but let him play a few seasons first but he still won't surpass Lebron.

It was his NBA comparison

It was his NBA comparison when Stevenson was coming out of HS. Like Harrison Barnes' is Luol Deng right now.

@dale

The Jordan comparison was just one based off of skill-set, body type, athleticism, etc. not saying he was gonna be the next Jordan. It was just his player comparison and a lot of scouts actually did compare him to Jordan out of high school....... Besides, how many other scouts also compared Adam Morrison to Larry Bird, Hasheem Thabeet to Dikembe Mutombo and other ones that seemed okay at the time but ridiculous now. Pretty much all of them....
