In the last past 10 years, since the YouTube era started to boom, which guys do you feel, misled us all to believe they would take their talents and hold it down on the collegiate level?

The most hyped mixtape player that has not panned out has to be Seventh Woods. He’s currently a sophomore at UNC, and buried deep on the bench without showing any signs that he will crack the rotation, let alone make some type of impact on the team. Woods displayed that he has all the athleticism in the world, which had us comparing him to the greats before he stepped one foot on campus. At this rate, he will never be considered a draftable prospect.

I wasn’t misled but lots of people were in love with Kasey Hill. If you ignored his mixtapes and watched him play you’d see that he was tiny with a small build, couldn’t run an offense for sht, was a slow decision maker, couldn’t shoot yet had bad shot selection and was old for his class.

Oh hell yea. Kasey Hill I remember was being compared to Chris Paul back then by some which is crazy if you think about it now. I think I actually bought into that hype.

I never bought into the Rondo hype, which is why I threw out Eric Barkley comparisons that actually stuck after a while.

Thon Maker is a Video Game. The jury is out on him, but the footage made you think he would take over the universe.

I agree his hoopmixtape was a ton of hype, but he averaged 16ppg his Rfreshman year at 45fg% and 38% from three earning unanimous BigEast All-Freshman team. He might not have taken the country by storm but I think those are pretty good numbers on a rebuilding St. John’s squad. This year hasn’t been quite as good, but still hasn’t been a bust or anything near it.

Thon was always going to be a work in progress, his draft status was one of the most variable I’ve seen in recent years and he is still being brought along slowly by Bucks.

Mixtapes can make athletic freaks look great, but I really like to see what a guy does against other good players. Going to town on the boards against a HS opponent is always much easier than against a bigger older NCAA guy etc.

I think the best 2 high school tapes have to be 1)Sebastian Telfair and 2) Andrew Wiggins they both had moves that I’ve never seen before, I was on the Telfair wagon for years.

Telfair didn’t go to college, so he’s exempt from discussion; on top of that, he exceeds the 10-year YouTube era. Wiggins had collegiate success.

YouTube had me thinking BJ Mullens would at least be a star at least in college.

Josh Shelby: played like westbrook in his mixtapes but dissapointed in his 1 year at kansas and didnt last in the NBA.

Bill Walker: I know the injuries werent his fault but Sonny Vaccaro called him the next Vince Carter and the best player in the 08 highschool class

Wasn’t even that highly rated of a prospect, but he could fly.
