Looks like Grant Hill will choose between the Celtics, Knicks, & Nuggets. The Knicks are apparently offering him the most $. I think he should go to the Celtics. That seems to be the best fit for him.
The Knicks plan on re-signing David Lee. That is why teams aren't making him any offers yet because they are worried the Knicks will match it. Right now it looks like Lee will probably stay in New York.
Jrue Holiday struggled in his first summer league game. Defensively he played very well but his point guard skills need a lot of polishing. The 76ers better re-sign Andre Miller or all of a sudden they could be in trouble. Without a veteran PG Philly just won't be a threat. Jrue will continue to improve & summer league doesn't mean everything. I just don't think he is ready to lead a playoff team now.
What are the Raptors going to do? They have absolutely no depth at SG. DeRozan will have to start right away and that could be disaster. Then again he may shine. I don't think Toronto has any money left to pickup a free agent SG. This could be their weak link. They just don't have the depth to make a serious playoff run even with the addition of Hedo.
Chicago is interested in Jannero Pargo. I'm not sure why because he certainly doesn't replace Ben Gordon. I guess he would help out some but he isn't really going to be a difference maker come playoff time. The Bulls should target other free agents.
Poor Cleveland, they just cannot attract any quality free agents. It happens year after year. LeBron just never gets the help he needs. I don't know why the Cavs don't go after Big Baby or Brandon Bass. They will end up re-signing Varejao and picking up Anthony Parker which certainly won't be enough to win it all.
The Pistons new coach will be Avery Johnson? I think that is a great choice. Still, Detroit doesn't have the big men to cause any trouble in the postseason. Trading Hamilton or Prince and getting a descent Center in return should be a top priority.
The Nets are staying really quiet. They have a little money to spend. They certainly have some holes to fill on their roster. Maybe they are just saving their cash for next year. Since they traded Ryan Anderson you figure they would pickup a tough physical PF in this years free agent market.
The Bucks have made a qualifying option for Sessions. I don't want Sessions to stay in Milwaukee but then again seeing Brandon Jennings sit on the bench would be priceless.
With the recent interview of DWade causing some commotion will the Heat feel the pressure to step their game up in this years free agent market? They have to be exploring their options through trades & free agents. I'm not sure how much money they have but I know Wade needs some serious help. The way I see it anybody on that roster (Wade not included) could be traded if it improves the team.
What are the Magic going to do? Their depth is AWFUL. No way they make a return to the finals this season. They better sign a couple free agents because their summer league team is pure Garbage ha. Alston, Lee, Gortat, & Hedo are all gone.
The Charlotte Bobcats did not re-sign Sean May making him a unrestricted free agent. It also seems a lot of team are interested in Gerald Wallace. Will the Bobcats trade Wallace to save a ton of cap space? For a team that was so close to the playoffs last year it seems they are being cheap and willing to take a step back. I'm dumbfounded, they need to add players not let them go. Portland is one team that could offer Batum for Wallace in a move that would save Charlotte some cash while making the Blazers get quite a bit better immediately.
Speaking of Portland, there is still rumblings of a sign&trade for Andre Miller. The Blazers would send Steve Blake & Travis Outlaw to the 76ers. I have a feeling the deal hasn't gone through because this really doesn't help out Philly at all. The Blazers may need to include some different players in the deal.
Trade talk involving the Clippers has died down in recent weeks. I guess since they got rid of Randolph there isn't any pressure to trade Kaman or Camby now. What does everybody think about this? Is LA still listening to offers? Are any teams still interested in trading for Kaman or Camby? It seems their a lot of squads that need a descent Center.
Trade talks between Golden State & Phoenix are on again. I'm not sure the players involved but Amare heading to the Bay seems likely in the near future. As long as Goldent State doesn't get rid of the majority of their young talent I think it is a good move for both teams. The Suns need to blow up and start over. Golden State is on the rise bigtime.
The Kings have been saying that they desperately wan to add a good post player this offseason however, I haven't heard any news of players they are going after. Could Sacramento secretly be a targeting a quality big man but they are just staying patient until the end? I have a feeling the Kings may scoop up David Lee, Glen Davis, or Brandon Bass in the last minute.
Another team staying very quiet is the TWolves. Minnesotat needs a lot of help but they haven't been making any waves in free agency. I guess their strategy is to wait until the end too. They have to add another SG.
I think the Thunder have smartened up and are no longer pursuing any free agents. They are content to let their young guys develop and establish chemistry. Milspa won't be getting paid the money he was seeking. I heard he may only get $6million a year now. The question is which team he goes to. More than likely he stays with Utah as the Jazz are reportedly shopping Boozer.
The Dallas Mavericks are making some good moves this offseason. Re-signing Jason Kidd and picking up Gortat certainly helps. Dallas is also trying to add another scorer at the SG/SF position. Rumor has it they like Michael Redd, Shawn Marion, McGrady, & a couple others. They also want to re-sign Brandon Bass. If Dallas somehow gets that scorer they are looking for along with resigning Bass Dallas they could be a real contender.
Thanks for this info!
good stuff.... I think Jersey is going to keep quiet this offseason and spend in 2010. An upgrade at the 4 would be nice but, they are making alot of revenue from their newly found Chinese fan base so expect Yi Jianlian to get alot of play time next year.
As for Minnesota SG is something the really need to address... although I havent heard any any rumors either... maybe the will sign both Childress and Marvin Williams to offer sheets and force Atlanta to let Childress loose without matching the offer.
I agree with the Dallas remarks that you concluded with. I would prefer Redd over Marion, but Marion seems more likely based on all of the reports surfacing. If they could get Marion and still resign Bass, and the Magic don't match the offer for Gortat, then I would be one happy Mavericks fan.
I am looking forward to seeing Yi Jianlian play more. The Nets are going to be scary good by the 2010-2011 season once they add some free agents. Minnesota could use both Childress & Williams. I could see them signing Childress for sure.
Oh yeah I would much rather have Redd too instead of Marion. The Mavs are going to be tough this year...Mark Cuban is finallly feeling the pressure to convince Dirk that the team is committed to winning now.
I just think Danny Ferry sucks as a GM.
Cuban is stuck at a cross road... the teams window is closing really fast... Kidd 36, Terry 31, Howard 30, Dirk 31. If they can't get it done this year Dirk might seriously consider signing with a contender. The same goes for Wade in Miami, I dont see what moves the team could make this season to catch up to the rest of the arms race in the east. IMO adding Allen Iverson would hurt more then it would help.....maybe they will put in an offer for Lee and let B-Eazy play the three. How scary would it be if NJ could find a way to wrangle Dirk and Wade in free agency 2010...
PG Devin Harris / Keyon Dooling
SG Dwayne Wade/ Terrance Williams
SF Courtney Lee/ Terrance Williams
PF Dirk Nowitski/ Yi Jianlian
C Brook Lopez/ Sean Williams
Danny Ferry does suck..seems like a nice guy though. They just never make good enough moves. For some reason they always sign the lemons of free agency haha.
Cuban knows the window is closing that is why they are making so many move this offseason. I don't think Dirk will leave Dallas.
I agree Iverson does nothing for the Heat. Beasley needs to play SF definitely. Miami should try to sign Sessions, David Lee, or Big Baby. I think any of those three players would help out quite a bit.
The Nets would be loaded. I don't think Courtney Lee can play SF though. I went to Western Kentucky and I've stood next to Lee in person many times....he isn't that big. How good is Yi, can he play SF?
I know his natural position is the 2 but didn't Courtney Lee guard LeBron in the playoffs??? Im sure if it came down to it they could find a veteran to come start at small foward with lee and williams coming off of the bench. Yi would get torched on defense...he doesn't have the lateral quickness to defend the three on the full time basis.
Lee is a pretty good perimeter defender but he gets abused in the post. Kobe scored on him at will. He did guard LeBron some but I just dont think he is very effective playing SF. I could be wrong though. I would think TWill would be better suited at that position but he is even undersized a bit too. I think the Nets need to grab a SF through free agency in 2010. If they were smart they should grab Big Baby this year. They could get him fairly cheap and he would give the toughness down low they need. Getting LeBron & Bosh would be crazy too.
im not sold LeBron is going to leave Cleveland, and if he does I think his familiarity with D'Antoni combine with the prospect of resurecting the Knicks and playing at MSG is more attractive than Brooklyn. The Knicks should have enough space to get 2 superstars as well, but wont have the same quality supporting cast. Even if the Nets could catch either Amare or Bosh that would improve the team greatly.. and as someone else brought up in another forum today Melo could be available in 2011. That would be pretty crazy team as well.
poor cleveland and knicks..neither attracted any quality free agents..actually cleveland at least got shaq..and the knicks got.....larry huges???...id give the point to cleveland for that one
actually the thunder are pursuing someone..i cant recall who right now but i read it last night...its a big man though.and why does every keep saying newyork is more attractive then this or that place to lebron liek they are lebrons agent or if one of his friends or people hes told says he said hes gonna do this or that people who dont even know him or talk to him claim they are wrong..would his friends know more then we do??..just a thought...people seem to not remeber ny has always been ny..they have always had these attractions yet i dont see them always getting the top free agents even before there cap issues its seems to fans its the perfect place but no so much to players even though they say playing in the garden is great you never see them breaking there backs to actually play for them...truth be told the top two places by vote that nba players picked was miami and l.a
If Lebron's mom tell him to stay he is staying lol.
lol...now we both know that aint tru..he will prob tell her to "sit youre A$$ down"
I agree with what you say about the Kings. I think a lot of teams are lurking in the weeds looking for bargains, not just them. I live in Sac & I haven't heard a single specific about what big they are targetting, but my money is on Lee (Bass option 2). I could also see them making a run at either Zaza & Williams out of ATL as well. Whatever they've got planned, they're keeping a pretty tight lid on it.
I agree NY wants to keep Lee, but if he signs an offer where the highest paying year is 2010, all bets are off.
While I don't disagree that Orlando won't return to the finals, I'm betting their depth ends up being better than you expect. Once all the big signings go down, there will be a lot of people playing for exceptions or the vet's minimum. If that's the case, I expect a lot of vets to look to sign one-year offers with one of the top contending teams, Orlando included. I really feel like this year we're going to end up with a handful of teams that are heads & shoulders above the rest, with lots more player reshuffling next year. Pretty interesting stuff actually.
Anyway, good post - lots of good info & thoughts.
Anybody else hear any new rumors.....feel free to post them here. I like hearing about all the trade talk & stuff.
Check out my website and sign up!!! http://qhaynes123.webs.com/
your not fooling anybody by getting a new name and no one likes your post your last on the list for negatives lol
Gatorheels on your first post you posted the idea of Toronto having no depth at the SG position.
Rumours are of a sign and trade with Shawn Marion going to Dallas for Jerry Stackhouse and Raptors are also interested in C.J Miles from Utah.
Hope that helps!
Gatorheels ... That post was good, and it could be used as a footbridge to cross the Mississippi. Good post.
Haha thanks...I get carried away sometimes.
