Now that espn’s NBA rank has concluded, I want to know what everyone’s thoughts are on who was overrated/underrated, and so on.  ESPN did a final 5-on-5 on the NBA rank, so I am going to use those questions as a starting point.  Please chime in with other questions/opinions that you may come up with?

Who was most overrated in the NBA rank top 50?

I have to go with a tie here; Tim Duncan (19) and Marc Gasol (26).  Duncan’s rank is clearly a lifetime acheivement award, and not really reflective of his current value as a player.  In Gasol’s case, there’s no way that after one good playoff run he is better than Rudy Gay, Tony Parker, or Joe Johnson.  Honorable mention goes to Joakim Noah (29).

Who was the most underrated in the NBA rank top 50?

Easy. Zach Randolph.  Probably the 2nd best power forward in the league after Dirk.  Doesn’t play above the rim so he will never be anywhere near as popular as Blake Griffin, but he is a double double machine and has been so for a while.  He has finally matured into the leader of a contender.

Which top 50 player will rise the most?

John Wall.  I am from DC and a Wizards fan, and I saw this guy play almost every game last year.  His rank at 40 was not unwarranted.  He is dynamic and has an uncanny ability to make great decisions while going full speed.  His fantastic rookie year kind of got lost in all the Blake Griffin hoo ha, but what he did with the lousy supporting cast he had was outstanding.  Put him on the Celtics and he gets more assists than Rondo.  Easily top 10 within three years.

Which top 50 player will fall the most?

Duncan.  He had a sharp decline in production last year and is enterting the twilight of his career.  Kobe and Dirk have some high level years left in them, so don’t count these aging superstars out just yet.

Who will be #1 in next years NBA rank?

LeBron James, easy.  There’s no way his reputation could’ve taken more of a hit in the last 12 months with his infamous decision and monumental collapse in the Finals.  All that taken into consideration, and he was still #1.  That should speak volumes about how head and shoulders he is above the rest of the league right now.  I am the world’s biggest Kevin Durant fan, but the objective fan in me says he’s got a long way to go before he catches LeBron.

The Blake Griffin over Melo or Amare bothers me the most lol. People hype Blake Griffin too much for a guy who has played one season and has yet to make the playoffs.

And Chris Paul didn’t have a great year last year. He was very quiet and regaining his form from the knee injury.

People didn’t start talking about him until he destroyed Derek Fisher and Steve Blake. I mean, every good point guard destroys them.

CP3 is great. But yes Indiana, you make the good point of you have to look at who he was playing against. The Lakers have no one who can guard a small point guard. JJ Barea also went nuts against them and he is probably a below average NBA player.

I think they should base this on winning because thats the ultimate goal sooo my question is if you had to pick one player to have in a playoff series who would you take?

I would deffiantly take Dirk .Yeah he may not be able to do everything but once its time for the 4th quater he will win you the game by simply out scoring the other team with his field goal % and unstopable moves.

Go back and look at the Spurs this past season. Duncan didn’t get nearly as many touches as he used to get. I aplaud him for sacrificing his stats for the better of hte team, cause if he wanted to, he could be putting up the numbers Patrick Ewing did late in his career.

I did too because I HATE DUNCAN

BUT really when its playoff time you gotta give him the ball more .He can score any many different ways and he can find the open guy .I dont see how not giving the ball will help his team win and it looks like thats what happen.

What’s there to hate about Duncann? I get that you’re a Mvs fan, so naturally I can understand that you don’t like the Spurs, but what about Duncan do you not like. When I was like 8 years old, and a bandwagon Lakers fan, I didn’t like the Spurs because they always beat the Lakers. I have since matured, and I appriciate everything Duncan does as a player, instead of just hating him just because.

I must agree about Duncan. I myself have even been caught in the Duncan lifetime achievement area by overrating him. But after going back and rewatching playoffs. He simply truely has fallen off as an individual talent. Still a very good player to have on your team, but no longer a single dominant force.

    Zero,

If you say Blake Griffin is overrated, have a more substantial argument than, "He’s only played one season" and "he hasn’t made the playoffs."

Those are totally invalid reasons. The purpose of the list was to rank the players in terms of how good they are right now, not how many seasons they’ve been in the league.

I can promise you, RIGHT NOW, every GM in the league would take Blake Griffin over ‘Melo or Amare Stoudemire. All 30 of them would.

because when drafting your looking for youth and potential…Blake has both of those qualities over Stat and Melo, but no where does he compare to them skill wise…Blake is a Monster, But there is a difference between being a great offensive player/difference maker(Melo and Amare) and highlight reel/ticket salesman(Blake)…now I’d take Blake over both of those guy too, but only because I could put Blake in any posistion and expect the same result, the same cant be about Scorers like Melo and Amare…Both right now Blake is not better than Melo and Amare, I know it sounds harse but that’s a fact…I would have a totally different top 10 or 25 then most…

    1. Kobe Bryant…this is the closet we will ever get to The Great Micheal Jordan, and until he retires and someone gets 6 rings I’m betting on the Black Mamba…I hate who he is most of the time and cant stand him forcing his hand in the draft and passing on the chance to build an entirely different legacy in Philadelphia, he may even have been Loved and Revered, instead of mostly hated on and underrated in the All Time Rankings…

    2. Lebron James…If there was a prototype for super human athelte Lebron would be 1 of a few poster boys, maybe even the best all around player in the sport he plays…What seperates Lebron from the field is his size, skill, athletic superiority and all those things come back to haunt him in the media and evn our own judgement of the man and his accomplishments…Physically Pound for Pound Lebron is the Best…But Gold is amongst the Heaviest substances in the Universe, and sadly in this Galaxy Kobe is King… Quote… "The ScareCrow"

    3. Dwight Howard…Yes He and Lebron are in a League of their own as fas as it comes to their abilites and size, strenght and speed at their posistions…He’s also another NON Champion…But Dwight dominates in areas that get forgotten about so often…Defense and Rebounding, Dwight is the best shot blocker and rebounder in The Entire World…when he gets a Pf that can play rock solid defense for 38 minutes and his team isn’t full of Defensive liabilities and 3 point chuckers he will get to a Ring, the Great Bigs often Do at some point…he like Lebron has lead his Team to The Finals, it’s only a matter of time before He finds a Team that Wins it All…

    4. Dirk

    5.D Wade

    6.Chris Paul

    7.Kevin Durant

    8.Derrick Rose

    9.Carmelo Anthony

10.Rajon Rondo…I’ll go into details to any one who asks this is going to be too long winded…
