Lotto StudParticipantAs a GM for the Wizards, MJ had committed the ultimate sin of bringing in Kwame Brown, which he has done again.
This time, I am asking you all as "Wizards GM’s" of the 2001 NBA Draft, who would you have took #1 Overall between Brown, Chandler & Curry with that pick without knowing how their careers would have turned out. Who would have been your pick based off HS performance including All Star Games.
Kwame Brown 6’10” 235 PF Glynn Academy – Brunswick, GA
Kwame was the #1 pick just off the strength of his Mickey D’s performance. Although him showing great shot blocking ability that was what I think sold MJ to take him.
Eddy Curry 6’11” 300 C Thornwood HS – South Holland, IL
Eddy on the other hand was a DOMINATE force on the HS level. The only thing I questioned back then was his work ethic to stay in shape & his drive once he would have got his multi-million dollar check.
Tyson Chandler 7’0” 220 C Dominguez HS – Compton, CA
Tyson was THE MAN IMO, he showed me everything I wanted to see in a 7-footer by the way he stayed active on the boards & challenged every shot. He was a shot blocking machine, everytime he went up he had to duck his head from hitting the backboard to block shots, which showed me he was a defensive minded player.
With my choice of the 2001 NBA Draft I would have selected Tyson Chandler.

llperezat the time it came down to kwame and tyson. Reports were kwame outplayed tyson in head to head workouts. It wasnt one of those drafts where there was an obvious pick by any means but nobody really had a strong argument against kwame at the time.

llperezand i’ve mentioned it a few times on here before but since this about tyson chandler, guy was one of the most hyped highschool guys i have ever seen. ABC’s show 60 minutes did an episode on him during his freshman season before he had ever played a highschool game. Slam magazine said he was gonna be better then kevin garnett. I played against him the summer between his sophomore and junior seasons and the gym was packed full and there were numerous scouts there. His highschool team was on televesion locally pretty often. He actually used to play on the perimiter a lot and shot a couple 3’s every game i watched.

jjonzParticipanti think it was about shady AAU coaches& how they operate the system of HS Ball. i think Gasol & RGay are probally 1st. 2nd was D.J Agustin Over BLopez. The story is Jordan wanted & even had a phone called made to BLopez telling him he was coming to Bobcats/But LBrown people insisted that Jordan take Augustin over Lopez.

JoeWolf1It’s not drafting Adam Morrison before Brandon Roy and Rudy Gay?

ilike.panochasParticipantI would have probably gone with Chandler #1. At worst he was going to be Marcus Camby. At 7’1, the guy ran the floor like a guard and his defensive instincts at 18yrs old were already advance for his age. All he needed to work on was adding weight and developing some sort of back to the basket moves.
Eddy Curry to me was a boom or bust prospect due to his weight.
And Kwame kind of snuck up on me, I never even knew he was being considered a top 5 pick until a couple of weeks before the draft, so he was kind of a guy that moved up due to his workouts.

NYK2010ParticipantMJ = fail as a GM.
Hire a real GM to run the team.
