Now this isnt what you think about who was the better player skill wise I just have a question and Im not sure how to word it so bare with me…………..Do you michael jordan would be such a cutural icon and considered and alltime great if he had the media coverage of today. If you didnt know MJ was involved in an affair and gambling addiction and back then media converage wasnt 24/7 like it is today. Would these actions tarnish his image and cause him to become one of the nbas most hated men had it happened in todays game. This is the reason I think Kobe is so underappreciated in todays game because he had some legal troubles and it was on the tv everyday every hour it hurt his image that people hated him.

I hope I explained it well enough for yall to give me some feedback and keep in mind im not a Kobe hater or MJ hater im a fan of basketball…..

I dont think that it wouldve tarnished him that much because kobe had the same issue with the whole thing in colorado and he still is a champion and doesnt get as much attention as before because of lebron and all the hype that surrounds him and now this whole “3 headed beast” that miami has formed and he has become a part of. The situation wouldve been the same… Lebron gets all the hype and all the TV/media attention and then when it comes time for jordan and or kobe you just know what to expect in the highlights. And then in june we would be talking about jordan and kobe instead of lebron. What people don’t realize is that lebron is the biggest money maker for the NBA and its obvious. When he left cleveland it was pronounced that 3500 people would be losing their jobs because of all the money he brought to cleveland, which is why dan gilbert responded like he did. When people were saying he would go to new york it was speculated he would bring the city of new york multiple BILLIONS of dollars. So when you have a young guy like a lebron who brings in that kind of money and business you have to get him as much attention as possible which would take away from the attention jordan and kobe would get. But yes with all the accolades those guys have they would still be recognized as the best of all time and IMO MJ would still be recognized as GOAT

    its inevitable tho.

but MJ was doin it like no other, there was no other. that’s why he’s appreciated.

Kobe is constantly being compared to a guy he’ll never be better than, and that’s more than basketball.

    btw, kobe is not underappreciated.

I don’t think kobe is underappreciated either, best player in the game today!

Anyways, I think part of the tarnish on Kobe’s image is his perceived selfishness in the whole fallout with shaq and the fact that the two of them were unable to make that work. The colorodo thing is also a factor, without question, but I don’t think it’s the only thing that’s hurt kobe’s image over the years.

Nonetheless, Kobe is the most proven winner to play the game since Jordan and the closest thing we’ve seen to his airness … kobe deserves a ton of props and recognition for the work he’s put in over the years and I think most basketball fans even today recognize kobe as the best player in the league

I say underappreciated because people always comparing him to MJ instead of just appreciating his greatness

great point about mjs affair and gambling problems. its funny cuz people hardly ever mention the fact that mj had a scandal but are quick to raise the fact that kobe cheated in colorado

The media coverage they have now would only motivate MJ..
