mitch richmond not in hall of fame is a shame
this guy should have been first ballot in my opinion. As a sg in the 90's, he was clearly behind Jordan as was everyone, and Drexler was better as well. But that's it. I mean penny could have been better but didn't do it at a high level long enough. Iverson was better but only played a portion of the 90's. No doubt I would put Mitch in over Reggie Miller.
In Mitch's first 10 NBA seasons, he averaged between 21.9 and 25.9 ppg per game each season. He was efficient shooting in the 46% fg range that whole time with about 85% ft's and close to 40% three pointers. He didn't win a lot of games, but those kings teams were bad. Walt Williams and Lionel Simmons were some of the best teammates he ever had there and they weren't anything special. Richmond was legit and could have gotten those numbers on any team in the league and helped anyone win.
The guy was fun to watch. Beautiful jumper. Mid range game. Post game. They called him the rock because at 6-5 and 215 lbs, he loved to bang in the post against smaller guards.
Even his last 4 seasons where he started to fall off, he still put up 20, 17, 16 then just 4 his last season where he rode the pine for the lakers to win a ring.
As of now, he is the only hall eligible player to have scored 20k points in his career and not make it. 6x all-star. 21ppg for his career. Im honestly surprised this guy wasn't first ballot, he seems like a lock.
He also was my fave to play with in the original NBA Jam. Mitch and Tisdale. Ah the 90's!!!
Dude, lmfao. I was just about to make the same post I sh*t you not. Richmond was the sh*t in NBA Jam! I either used them, or the Sonics with Kemp and Schrempf.
Never really watched him since I was really young. Was he good or great ? Because on a bad team a good player stats can be greatly inflated compared to them being on a good team. Chris Bosh was thought to be a great player until he got with the Heats.
Yea bad teams helps stats but he averaged 20 plus with the warriors as a 3rd option behind Tim hardaway and Chris Mullins (TMC) He should have been in the HALL OF FAME. But he is going to be like Dominique Wilkins. The league is going to take the SWEET A$$ TIME putting him in. Remember Niq wasn't even on the 50 Greatest Players list Back in the Day.
The Hall of Fame is run by idiots and there is no criteria they follow in inductions. If the voters don't like you (and nobody knows who the voters actually are), you don't get in until they die and your friends replace them.
Well honestly I think he deserves to be inducted, but I don't really see the shame. There have been better players who hasn't been first ballot; also among those who deserves but still haven't been named there are still better players. I mean, what has Richmond done to deserve more than Mark Aguirre, Jack Sikma, Spencer Haywood do?
in the Hall and Richmond not is ridiculous. Mitch was clearly the better player.
Mullin was inducted as a member of the original dream team. Anyways why was Richmond clearly the best player?
Also, I forgot, I'd never take Richmond over Reggie Miller, no way.
From the mouth of the greatest player of all time. Michael Jordan has been quoted as saying that Mitch Richmond was one of, if not the toughest match ups he ever had as a player. If MJ says you were one of his toughest match ups he ever had along with stellar numbers you are a lock for the Hall of Fame.
Micheal Jordan once said Richmond was the most difficult player he had to defend..
I think Richmond was a much better player then Reggie Miller... Miller had to wait until his 2nd try to get in..Miller's entry was based on his memorable shots, his teams won,he was consistent until he retired and he was among the most popular players during his era...
Richmond will get into the Hall of Fame soon...I think he's in the same category as guys like Alex English and Adrian Dantley..They put up great numbers and were among the best players during their time....But they did things so quietly.....
Richmond was better than Miller.
Miller also got in because he was the most prolific 3-point shooter til Ray Allen.
Miller the more spectacular player and induction...Richmond the more solid.
I grew up a Kings fan since I'm from norcal and I remember when they would play the Bulls the headline would always be "Michael vs. Mitch" it was always fun to watch.
I think he should be in the HOF as well. Hopefully he gets in the next time. The only Kings jersey I have is of Mitch Richmond.
I still remembered when he guest starred on Hang Time lol.
