This will be one of the dumbest moves in organization history. They have made tons of bad ones before but this surprise should top most of them. Mike Malone was such a great influence to the Kings and gave them an identity. They started off incredible this season until Cousins got injured. Of course it would be hard for the Kings to win without Cousins because he is their superstar. Rudy Gay can’t do it alone. Why the Kings even thought about firing Malone I do not know.

Malone earned the respect of Cousins and is one big reason he is way ore mature now. Even when he conducts his interviews Cousins looks like a whole different person than before. Malone resurrected Rudy Gay’s career and made what was thought to be impossible possible by making he and Cousins coexist well on the court. He also has done well to get the best out of his overpaid players, like Jason Thompson and Landry. Is there anything going on behind the scenes that led to this move?? Because the Kings are definitely headed in the right direction this season even with the injury of Cousins.

There’s such a rush too win now in the league today. They have pieces but the western conference is a monster.  I really feel like if the could make a trade for Rondo they would be dangerous.  Cousins might be the best scoring big man in the nba. Gay gives them an elite defender  on the perimeter.  And they have good young wing talent. Really is not the coach it’s the conference and they are missing that final piece.  As we approach the trade deadline don’t be surprised if they make another push for Rondo.

I dont’ know what happened with the coach but they started off strong and exceeded expectations. They have gone 2-7 since Cousins was injured – You can’t blame that on the coach when you best player gets injured.

I agree, anyone that can get the best out of Cousins and Rudy Gay deserves serious respect.

I don’t why on earth they would do this…..

This firing has truly come as a shock for me.  Personally, I thought that the Sacramento Kings were playing above expectations before Cousins went down, and they were winning games with defense.

Mike Malone was well-respected by both DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay, and now that respect doesn’t even matter anymore.  Malone is gone.

This was a silly move by Sacramento.  For a franchise that is looking for some stability, firing a head coach well before you have given him a fair opportunity doesn’t look good to the public.

When I read this headline this morning I literally took a double-take. I really like Malone and thought he was a perfect fit for Sacramento. I just don’t really understand why he got fired, the players seemed to really love him. Maybe he didn’t get along with other staff or upper management? I really have no clue, I’m shocked…

I think vivek ranadive is on his way to being as bad as the maloofs, without the threats to move out of sacramento. I am sure most of you guys have seen the video of their draft room drafting stauskas. He looks to be too much of a hands on owner. He doesnt really know much about basketball, so I wonder if he had anything to do with this. If he did I feel bad for kings fans for having to suffer through another bad owner.

Like Kendrick Perkins says they still the Fawkin Sac Kings at the end of the day. Dumb moves after dumb moves it just keeps piling up. The owner has no idea what hes doing at all, this is scrazy. Wait for a big splash coming since this happen. I can see them taking on a dumb contract for wins now to make this story go away. They will be contacting the nets

It’s moves like this is why the Sacramento Kings will not be good for a while. They finally start to show some progress this year, Cousins gets sick and they hit a slump so they blame there head coach? There 11-13 and half a game out of the playoffs and that’s not meeting expectations?? I would love to know what the owners expectations are especially in that Western Conference.

Pete D’Alessandro and Chris Mullin need to explain this one… I don’t understand this.

One thing I do understand is… Ty Corbin sucks as a head coach.

The Kings don’t have a good roster. They have Boogie… that’s pretty much it. They’ve been able to keep Gay in his lane this season, but he’s not an elite player. The fact that they won all those games even with a healthy Cousins was an accomplishment. So the fact they hit a cold streak shouldn’t be a surprise at all.

And you fire the coach? He must have insulted Vivek. Because if Vivek canned him because of their cold streak he should be pushed out of the league…. and it would also mean that D’Alessandro is sackless.

Wow- CBS is reporting George Karl is considered a front runner and so is Vinny Del Negro.  I cannot believe VDN is seriously getting another head coaching gig consideration.

WTF are they thinking? This is a terrible decision. Malone finally had the Kings playing defense and winning games, then your star gets hurt and you lose a few more than you should while he is out. Why does this all of a sudden mean it is the coaches fault and he needs to go? Even if there was a reason for Malone to go it is stupid to fire a coach without having a better replacement waiting to jump in. Do they really believe Corbin, or Vinnie are better? AND George Karl is the last person I would pick to coach Cousins because there is a huge chance they will not get along.

The best part about this is none other than Woj himself is reporting Vivek is already pushing for his insane 4 on 5 defensive tactic.  I wonder if Mike Malones refusal to make a mockery of the game of basketball had anything to do with it.  It’s too bad because the Kings were actually looking like a decent team, destined to make the leap into the high 30’s low 40’s win range.

I really like Mike Malone as a coach…. too bad the Lakers don’t have the balls to fire Byron already, I mean let’s be real, he’s awful and just as stubborn as D’antoni… only instead of refusing to play anything but small ball, Scott refuses to do anything offensively, or defensively from the 1990’s and up.  Dude is straight stuck in the 80’s.  Since I am ready to move on and start a new era in LA, Malone would be nice…. not gonna happen.

I think what Sacramento did to Malone was completely unfair. I think just about any person can feel for a another who appears to have been in a situation where their boss was looking for a reason to get rid of them. While it was only a month, DeMarcus Cousins looked to be making a leap from being a talented guy who would put up numbers and ensure they lose more often than not to a bonafide stud. He was more committed defensively, and at least in the games I saw was not having those blow up moments where he has a call not go his way, doesn’t get back, forces something the next time he gets the ball, acts completely petulant, and facilitates a 8-10 point run for the other team. I didn’t think the Kings were on their way to the playoffs, but were headed in the right direction, especially when considering they had never been better than 13th in the West with Cousins. I do not think this is necessarily going to change now that Malone is gone, but he deserved to see it through.

The problem is that I think someone, my hunch is that it is Mike Malone’s agent, decided to torch the Kings organization with these leaks that do not seem to add up. To bring up the cherry pick scheme when the D-League affiliate Reno Bighorns is not doing that is just trying to troll Vivek. If you want to discredit the owner it probably is the best way to do it, but it is not accurate. Reno is playing fast, pressing, shooting a million threes, and using everyone on their roster. It is an accelerated version of Nellie ball, D’Antoni ball, or last year’s Rockets. They are not cherry picking. I’ve seen them have guys beat the opponent up the floor off a make or a turnover and get an easy dunk, and I have seen big Sim not get into the offense for a possession after being at the back of the press, but have not seen cherry picking. Reno has not been a disaster. They are 5-4. If Vivek wants to experiment, it is an inexpensive and low profile way to do it. I think it would make a lot more sense to play the same style in the D-League as the NBA so that you are developing your players in a way that Eric Moreland or someone else who is assigned to Reno will be better prepared to play the Kings system once he returns, but they are going at it in a different way. As a side benefit, I think they are making a point that one cannot look at stats outside of context and think the numbers alone tell the story (much like the stats in a Sixers game). Both the counting stats and the offensive efficiency stats for guys on that team and those who have played against them are huge, but like with anything else one has to ask the question “what does it mean?” Secondly, no organization lives or dies on a 10-day contract. To make it sound as though signing Royce White to a late season 10-day contract irreconcilably broke the relationship between coach and management is a stretch. Isaiah Thomas was hurt until after they signed White and Orlando Johnson to 10-days contracts, so the need was not there at the time they decided to sign them. They did not play either guy much once there, so the pressure to play White could not have been too significant. Add onto that that the team signed not-a-point guard Jared Cunningham after letting White, so that tells me that the urgency to sign a back up point guard was a touch overstated.

I LOVED Vivek’s move to draft Stauskas. I never liked the idea of drafting Vonleh much.

The verdict is still out on the move to fire Malone. Vivek has given me no reason to doubt.

This kind of reminds me of when Nate McMillan was fired as Portland’s coach. I felt they sucked because Roy and Oden went down. In my opinion McMillan had proved to be a top 10 coach. He’d be a good fit in Sacramento because he’s all about character. The players LOVE him.

Mike Malone was unlucky to go so early in the season especially with their best player out. A lot of the wealthy owners are very much win now but a team like the Kings needs to build from the bottom upwards. Ty Corbin is an excellent assistant but I agree he’s not a great head coach.

Nate MacMillian currently an assistant at the Pacers I believe would be a good choice I agree. He’d certainly keep DMC on a tight reign.
