Microscope on DeAndre Ayton

I’ve been watching Ayton for a while throughout the season and couldn’t help but notice that he’s somewhat of a stiff player in terms of leaping. He doesn’t have any bend in his knees whatsoever and is considered a top-tier leaper for his position. The last player who possessed the same type of trait with ridiculous leaping ability is Andrew Wiggins. I’m not a fan of stiff players, but it leaves me to wonder why they lack bend which adds more explosiveness to their game.

Ayton

Ayton has always been more assertive than Wiggins honestly. While Ayton can improve in this attribute, it definitely isn't as bad or frustrating as wiggins lack of awareness and motor.

Is Mo Bamba the guy to go

Is Mo Bamba the guy to go with? Collin Sexton might be the top pick as the high lotto guy least likely to get a GM fired.

People love Ayton due to his

People love Ayton due to his size. He's a freak of nature. Size and athleticism.

I don't think it translates to skill. I just hope he comes to the Eastern conference so him and Embiid can face off 4x a year,

He didnt have a greaat game

He didnt have a greaat game against Buffalo but it wasnt his fault. They double/triple teamed him denied entry passes by having a man in front and behind him at times and constantly pressured him all game yet the Arizona gaurds failed to consistantly hit shots and make plays to alleviate the pressure. Trier, Alking and Cartwright should have lit up Buffalo but thaat wasnt the case. His shot wasnt falling either which didnt help matters.

I’ve seen Ayton play probably

I’ve seen Ayton play probably 20+ times in person, mostly on the EYBL circuit. He’s gifted and a physical specimen, but he’s doesn’t compete consistently. That’s just reality. His natural instinct as a player is to float, either along the baseline for lobs, dump downs and put backs, or to float around the perimeter and chuck jumpers. He doesn’t post up, doesn’t want to post up and isnt an efficient or skilled player on the block.

He’s incredibly talented, but he’s not a sure thing for the same reasons I didn’t think Wiggins was a sure thing. He very well could end up being a HOF player, he has that kind of ability. I think it’s much more likely based on what I’ve seen that he ends up like Wiggins, a good/pretty good player who could be so much better with a different level of desire.

Ayton vs Bamba

I got negged because I think Bamba could end up being better overall than Ayton.

Of course Ayton is better and mo re complete offensively than Bamba right now, but Bamba got this it thing in defense that the NBA teams are looking for.

It's not only about last night's loss but Ayton, like Wiggins, seems to lack that killer instinct which separates NBA players who put up stats from those who win rings or take their teams far in the playoffs.

ugh

comparing anyone to Wiggins makes me shudder.

Wiggins is probably one of my most frustrating basketball players to watch just because he's so stiff, and he can't do things out there I wish he could. I also absolutely hate his interviews, he's lame, and he doens't play hard all the time. Wiggins needs to practice on his lateral footwork. He also just needs someone to beat him up everyday. He needs a Chuancey Billups to set him straight.

he's not effecting the game

he's not effecting the game in enough assertivity, instictivly and intuitively way like he should, and that is a hugh problem too be passive in nature when talking about being a star player...

Ironically, if Ayton's not

Ironically, if Ayton's not gonna post up, you can get Bamba for dunks, lobs, and chucking 3's.

Not sure I even WANT the Grizzlies to get the top pick this year. Would rather take Bamba at 4 or Sexton. Or Doncic/ Porter or the leftover between Jackson and and Bagley 3.0.
