    McDunkin

We’re glad the NBA’s back…but that doesn’t mean we’ve taken our eyes off of the international game. Take this dunk for instance:

With his team (Assignia Manresa) down big late in a Spanish League game, former Gonzaga wing Micah Downs took his anger out on the rim. Unfortunately for FCB Regal’s Fran Vazquez, a former first-round pick of the Orlando Magic, he got in Downs’ way.

Despite the dunkworks, Regal hung on for a 74-61 victory.

Nice dunk, but I’m sure half the guys in the NBA could dunk like that on a wimpy white boy Euro center like that. Remember the Vince Carter dunk….. these guys aren’t NBA centers.

     @ F_DA_PO

do you often watch euro games (acb, euroleague) ?

maybe you should, or listen to US (and nba) players’s coments after they played in europe. The game here is less athletic but really more physical : zone D, less space, more contacts in the paint and always nasty plays by euro big men (without any referee’s whistle)

vazquez is a really good defensive big man (why do you think orlando want to make him come year after year ? he’s no curtis borchardt), so much better than fred weis (the french center carter dunk on, in sidney) and I don’t see him wimpy…. he’s just coming in help defense (his job) whereas he has more chance to finnish on the poster than with the BS.

@f_da_po, fran vazquez would be a starter in more than half of the nba teams.

Man, Downs was a 3 point specialist in college.  I remember him being fairly athletic but, I never remember him taking it to the rack like that.

I like how alot of people in the US think euro players are soft but if they were playing they would call foul on every play…The nba is weak in terms of fouls a slight finger touching a shooters hand is considered a foul…watch an nba game and see how many players whine about it.

    damn that was nice….

i loved downs game in college and he’s always been a good athlete , him and daye where a nice little tandem…he was a good all around player never did anything great…..i know he had injury issues early in college but good to see he’s still balling at a high level………..

i’ve talked to players who have played overseas and they tell euro player can be reckless and pull some dirty shiet ao you dont see many people getting dunked on….plus there players are more discplined defensively, they dont take as many risk gaurding the dribble….

That is Fran Vazquez. Correct me if Im wrong but I believe Orlando owns his draft rights. If he came over he would have a similar impactc as someone likec Luis Scola. He is a very good player and a main piece for the Spanish National Team which in my opinion is the clear cut second best team in the world. Orlando just cant convince him to play here.

Yap, Fran was 11th pick though I dont remember in which years. He may not be starter in a half of the teams but he is very solid player defensively his offense is pretty poor. Still with good PG he can be a highlight machine because of his great length and athletism. To me he is like Mozgov with better defense but poorer offensive arsenal

I knew Micah Downs had hops but I have never seen him utilize them like that in a game before. It was very impressive. Fran Vazquez would be a very good PF in the NBA. He and Dwight Howard could possibly form a top 5 front line in the NBA. I think he would compliment Howard so well. Vazquez is an upgrade over any PF on the Magic, imo. I think he could be a 16 & 9 player next to Dwight but alas, he isn’t coming over.

Micah Downs always been a great athlete, he just wasn’t an aggressive slasher because he was a bad ball-handler and he was weak.
