soooo.. the grizzlies are on a 4 game losing streak and still continue to have OJ ride the bench. at first i kinda liked the idea of him being a super 6th man (ben gordon, manu ginobili type), but i mean, the guy barely cracks 20 minutes a game.. they werent winning with him starting and ther not winning with him off the bench. now.. to me, this guy has tremendous talent and its being wasted in memphis.. i say trade the guy if your gonna waste that kinda talent on the bench after hes already established himself as a starter (and potential star) you might as well just trade him

Couple of thoughts here-I think OJ kinda hurt himself over the summer by working on trying to be a point guard rather than trying to be the best shooting guard he can be…

There seems to be alot of tension between him and Lionel Hollins.Hollins sees/or wants him to be a pure spot up shooter in his system and this is clearly something that OJ dosent want to do,but at this point OJ is trying to be a team player and its affecting his overall game. His defense hasnt been very good this year with bigger 2 guards abusing him

Also with Rudy and Conely getting new deals i think OJ needs to either accept the role or hope he gets traded

One thing about OJ’s game i dont like is that he dosent get to the line alot and i think this is gonna prevent him from being a big time scorer

One of the reasons the benching was so puzzling to me is that Mayo has always been a very solid defensive player, and when good scorers are benched it’s for defense most of the time (like Marcus Thornton this year). As LazarusMunoz pointed out bigger 2 guards have been abusing him, I haven’t watched any Grizzlies games this year so I can’t comment on that, but Conley/Mayo is certainly a physically weak backcourt by any standard.

OJ will likely play out his rookie contract and become a Free Agent…It sucks because a few Teams could use OJ right now…he’d be great in Philadelphia in a big guard backcourt with Holiday or Turner for most of the game…He’s the scorer Philly need’s and has lacked since Allen Iverson was traded…and with OJ’s defensive ability he, Holiday and Turner would be a nice 3 guard rotation…

    Trade Idea…Iggy for OJ/Thabeet and a 1st rounder,

The Sixers could add Hawes or Speights for Zac and Gasol insurance…Iggy and Gay would be a great combo at Sg and Sf…they actually fit each other’s style of play very well…I would not want to lose Speights in this deal so Hawes would be the main piece along with Iggy…Hawes is not a Philly guy, Speights still has offensive potential and is backup and potential replacement for Elton Brand, this trade would help the Grizzlies get into the playoffs and thus trading a 1st rounder wouldn’t hurt, they have two 1st rounders from this past draft class and guys like Conley, Arthur and Sam Young, they don’t need any more youth, they need an impact defender/play maker in their starting line up and they need to resign Gasol and Randolph…Getting Iguadola and Hawes as a back up Center would be huge…The sixers get a Scorer and potential Defender in Thabeet ( who has been a Bust so far)…plus a pick in the late teens/early 20’s would help the Sixers search for talent in the draft…they save Money and get 2 or 3 young players for Iggy and Hawes…

The Sixers with or without Iggy or OJ Mayo will be in the lottery…they will likely be in the 4-10 range…So they will likely look to net the BPA or one of the great SF’s in this class…There is Harrison Barnes, Perry and Terrence Jones, Tyler Honeycutt or Jordan Hamilton…Either SF would be a good player in Philadelphia…Of course The Sixers would love either of the Jones boys or Tyler Honeycutt because they all give them some of the versatilty Iggy brings to the table…so In a deep SF class it makes sense to trade a high priced Sf when you truely need a Scorer at the SG spot and Defender at Center…If we can pull the trigger on an Iggy and Hawes for OJ and Thabeet plus 1st rounder trade we could Draft BPA or get the best SF on the board..

I like your Iggy for Mayo-Beet-1st trade idea.  Would jump on it in a heartBeet (yea that’s right)

By what ive been reading on Memphis boards…they seem to loathe the thought of resigning Zach Randolph…they seem to place there troubles on him or the coach Lionel Hollins.I guess Zach has gone back to his ways of being a black hole who takes shots away from Gasol and Mayo

Mayo does not attack the basket all that athletic ability and point guards have more dunks than he has. Unacceptable. He is not a PG he needs to be a 2 guard in order to really help any team. I have never thought he was a great defender either. He is an ok defender when he gives effort. He needs to be traded he does not fit. He would look good next to CP3 cause there will be no question who the PG is. Hit the open jump shots and attack the rim and get to the line. Mayo should have a lot of dunks all the time.

Scarecrow I agree 100%. Ive been sayin this trade since like the start of the season. It makes sense for both. Iggy will be added to a very good line-up as a 2nd or 3rd option & gives Memphis a very good starting 5 of Conley,Iggy,Gay,Randolph,Gasol which makes memphis atleast a 7 or 8 seed. The sixers get OJ who has loads of potential & has the scoring ability to drop 25-28 on any night, Thabeet has been a bust so far but hes only in his 2nd yr hes 7’3 the sixers have no true center and this guy still has a chance to being a very good player who still can be a great defensive if he gets it together, and add DeMarre Carrol to make the trade work money wise, and a 1st round pick. That would be as good as a deal that both team probley can.

Mayo needs to be traded soon and I think Grizz and decided to build around Henry, Conley, and Gay.  Gasol and Randolph may be gone and so will Mayo.  Memphis seems set on getting a new front court and may gamble on Oden and some other 4 man down the road.  They need more fire power off their bench as well.

You guys need to watch O.J play before you criticize him for his lack of free throws attempts and dunks. He doesn’t get to line because he doesn’t have the athletic ability to consistently beat his man off the dribble. (PLEASE don’t bring up his draft combine stats. Anyone who’s seen him play on a regular basis can see that they’re looking less and less relevant after each game.)
