Ray Allen and the Clippers first round pick for O.J. Mayo

Why Memphis: You’re not going to pay Mayo after giving four guys big deals. So you go and trade Mayo for a guy who can shoot the three, and flash some jewelry as well. With Memphis shooting a league low 31% from three, Allen can come in and provide some shooting, and you get a nice vet come playoff time. You can also use the first round pick to either find a nice replacement once Allen walks, or a backup point guard.

Why Boston: You want to get younger, you’re not a lock for the playoffs, why not? Mayo still has plenty of upside, and in at a time where the shooting guard is in limbo ( IMO, not too many nice shooting guards in the league), why not take Mayo and hope he gets a slight PPG increase next to Rondo? He provides a nice defensive, and youth infuse to a old roster, and could come cheaper then many believe.

    Thoughts?

It seems to make sense for everyone involved.  I’d love to see what Mayo could do w/a pg like Rondo feeding him.  And Allen’s skill set will absolutely fit on any team in the NBA.

Sounds like a good option except that first round draft pick. Maybe cash considerations

That’s the thing. I did this deal in the machine, and Memphis would have to send cash back to Boston for it to work.

I like it for imagenation… It helps boston get younger… I dunno if memphis is going all in this year though, but then they get that pick too.. It seems to help both teams, but I dont think the value is there for Boston… you would think that if they wanted to trade Allen, they could get more…Also, couldn’t they just get mayo in free agency? it doesn’t look like memphis wants to keep him right now?

I said this exact same statement, solid trade for both teams. Sucks for Ray Ray to leave Boston but Memphis is an up and coming team, could do alot of damage in the playoffs again. Just wait on Randolph to get healthy. O.J gives Boston a nice piece for the future and good running mate for Rondo. Rondo, Mayo, Green (assuming everything works out)  is a solid core to build around and Boston has plenty of cap space to grab some more pieces. Interesting thought. Danny Ainge is going to pull something out of his sleeve soon.

Rondo dominates the ball wich contradicts OJ’s game. Save the money cause Ray will take a big pay cut to stay. Why would they pay Mayo?
