Both are unsung heroes for arguably the nation’s deadliest basketball team, Iowa State…DeAndre is a transfer from Marshall and has the size and athleticism to play at the next level..The only problem is he’s almost 25 years old…

He is a fantastic player though, he recently went for 30 points against a top 10 Baylor team. If no NBA team takes a flyer, I can imagine that he’ll do quite well overseas

Melvin Ejim on the other hand, he’s an undersized power forward with ridiculous athleticism…He’s averaging 18 ppg, 7 rpg, 2 apg, on 52% from the field and 35% from 3

Can he play the 3 at the next level? I imagine an NBA team will take a long look at him when they see him in workouts, plus you have to appreciate the body of work he’s put together.

I’m shocked he isn’t in the mock draft yet.

i think both of these guys have a legitimate shot at playing in the nba. Ejim seems more equipt physically for the league but kane is definitely a tough customer…if they can make a deep run into march(which by the looks of things probably will happen) then i dont see how these 2 wont get a fair chance to make a team

I was very impressed by Kane and Ejim’s performances against Baylor. Kane was doing it all and looked like an All-American against a talented Baylor team. I believe he made his first seven shots, including two 3’s. I think he was just a couple rebounds and one assist away from a triple-double. Not to mention he had five steals too.

Ejim was all over the court. His energy seemed to never go away for the entire game. He received an undeserving technical foul on a dunk at point that seemed to kind of take the spirit out of Baylor. I can definitely see an NBA team taking a chance on him with a second round pick this year and seeing what he can develop into.

These two guys in addition to George Niang and coach Fred Hoiberg have me believing in the Cyclones this season. This could be the team to finally end Kansas’s streak of Big 12 conference titles.

They’ve been on my mock for the past month or so with Ejim in the 40-50 range and Kane as one of the last few selected in the 55-60 range.

I think it’s safe to say that Ejim is no longer an undersized power forward. They brought in Dustin Houge to play that role this season, and Ejim has been playing the 3 and he’s done major work on his perimeter game, with the most impressive element being his improved ball handling and driving ability.

Here is my full opinion on Ejim.

Kane is a stud too. I think because he is 6’4” 200 lbs and plays like a point guard that he has a legit shot in the league. He isn’t much of an outside shooter, but he’s got okay form and that can be worked on. I love the way he gets in the lane and uses his strength to his advantage. Like the OP said, he is almost 25, but he’s physically ready to play in the NBA, and there’s not a doubt in my mind he’s stronger and more athletic than many current NBA points. I think he has a shot to make it on as a 3rd point guard. He’s like a better version of Julian Stone IMO with athleticism and creative scoring ability being two of traits he surpasses Stone in.

If he doesn’t get picked up, I’d liken him to Dellavadova who has what it takes, but might not be the most attractive player to draft. Say he finds himself on a roster I think he’ll play a role, and not just be a cheerleader. If I had to go an over under of Kane playing 30 NBA games next year, I’d say over.
