Yahoo sports just reported that Melo is leaning towards leaving and the rockets and bulls are the front runners if he does leave

I can’t help but wonder how different things would be now if Carmelo just went to the Knicks as a free afent rather than forcing a trade. I imagine at the very least the rift between Donnie Walsh and James Dolan over trading for Carmelo wouldn’t have happened and Walsh might still be in NY. Keeping Danilo Galinari, Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, and Timofey Mozgov would’ve made the Knicks a better team after getting Melo and might have led to them being a better team now.

I have had the same conversation with one of my friends. I always thought it was a really bad move on Melo’s part because he killed every last bit of depth the team had by forcing the trade. If he had just played the year out in Denver he could have been on a much better Knicks team. NY wanted him, he wanted to go to NY…the only problem is he also wanted his huge extension. I am curious to see if he opts to take less than the max for a new team or if he is going to force his next team to trade off more guys to get him the max.

In fairness to Carmelo, Walsh completely turned that team around, then they fired him, and started making questionable moves again.

Even with Phil Jackson in charge, I wouldn’t be able to trust that orginzation.

I wouldn’t be upset at all if Melo leaves.   Basically with or without him, the Knicks are moving forward.  No building around him once he get cap room…  I mean it wasn’t insurance that he wanted him there.  Or that they will contend anytime soon.

Melo should’ve waited until the year was over with before heading to the Knicks.  You can’t get too mad though because they had Melo, Amare, Chandler suppose to be a decent line up to contend with Miami & Chicago.  Amare never wanted to add things to his game (similar to D. Wade) and also was injured 80% of the time.

Hopefully Melo goes to the Bulls because Houston doesn’t play defense at all…  They might make it to the second round, but won’t be contending for a championship even though on paper they should.
