NEW YORK — Carmelo Anthony has told the Denver Nuggets he will not sign the nearly $65 million contract extension he has been offered unless he is traded to the New York Knicks, a source told ESPN.com on Sunday. The source, using the most definitive language possible, confirmed what has been widely speculated around the NBA over the past two months as Anthony has been at the center of trade talks involving numerous teams.
“ Everybody’s yelling out the windows: ‘Melo we need you in New York.’ Of course that feels good when you know someone out there wants you to come and represent their team and represent their city. That’s what I took from that. ” — Carmelo Anthony And while other franchises might be able to make better offers, Anthony will not agree to sign anywhere long-term unless he is dealt to New York, according to the source, who has been privy to private discussions between Anthony, his representatives and the Nuggets organization.
The source spoke to ESPN.com after Denver’s 129-125 loss to New York on Sunday afternoon as the Knicks won their eighth straight game. Anthony was again coy in discussing his future, but he did move the needle somewhat in making a prediction that the Nuggets will not trade him to a destination that is not on his wish list. "I don’t think so. I don’t think that will happen," Anthony said. Asked why he would make such a definitive statement, Anthony demurred "I don’t want to answer that. I don’t want to talk about that." Anthony received a standing ovation from Knicks fans during player introductions after hearing their pleadings on the streets ever since the Nuggets arrived in Manhattan late Friday night. The New Jersey Nets have been holding out hope that their offer of Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy and two No. 1 draft picks would be the best offer available to the Nuggets, but the news that Anthony will not agree to sign with them long-term effectively knocks them out of the bidding.

NYK2010ParticipantGiving up quality young plalyers for him makes less sense every day.
Just sign him as a free agent in the summer, Nuggets hold all the cards right.
We’ll see what the Nuggets GM gets in a trade for him.
I’d rather wait a few more months and sign him as a free agent.
Can always use the young players in a trade for a Center.
So far all these Mello rumors to the Hornets, Magic, Rockets, Nets haven’t come true.
If the Bobcats get him its doubtful he resigns with them.

PapoParticipantMelo to Bulls… Deng, Taj, James Johnson and 1st rounders for the next 2 and whatever else needs to be done to make the money match up. The Nuggets get a serviceable replacement at the 3 in Deng, a starting 4 in Taj and I don’t know if James Johnson is ever going to realize how good he can be or if he’s just content fitting in but if he does, who knows, toss up…. and the Bulls get Melo, nuff said. Only if he signs the extension. But from what I can remember the Bulls made the pre-season destination list.

sheltwon3ParticipantIf you think about it the Knicks play a short rotation so if they can keep Chandler, Douglas and add Melo and only lose Randolph who has not played, Fields tough lost, Galinari replace by Melo, Curry is not going to play, and the expirining of Azuibuike. They have only lost Fields as someone that was key to their current team with Melo replacing Galinari. Shawn Wiliams, Bill Walker, and Roger Mason can take up minutes lost by Fields.
Since I feel like they Knicks need a big man on D to get to the next step it may be wise to sacrifice a few young pieces to get this done. They drafted well in the second round. Next year’s draft will have some many potential guys that some very good player could slip. Knicks could buy picks and grab some players to replace Fields and others. Also they still have a young big overseas they drafted in the 2nd round Jerome Jordan who i a nice player and should be on the team next season.

QUINCEY HODGES1Jerome Jordan is horrible. Knicks fans aren’t counting on him to do anything. The problem is still gonna be defense even when they get melo. They have no problem scoring. They will just become the old school suns of the east. Good enough to get to the second or even third round because of offense but not being able to stop anyone

NYK2010ParticipantI’d hold on to Fields.
Give them Gallo, Randolph, Curry thats it.
If that report from ESPN is true that Mello will only sign an extension with the Knicks the Nuggets don’t hold all the cards.

Ghost01ParticipantI dont want Melo on the Bulls. The Bulls have a superstar.
Melo should go to the Knicks. I admit it. More drama, the Knicks mattering, it doesnt bother me. Denver sure aint going anywhere past the first round so why not mix it up.

CodySLCParticipantWhen it happens it will shake up the east once again. The Knicks are gonna be really good with Felton, Amare, and Melo.
