negguaryParticipantMelo officially opts out to become a free agent!!
What is the state of the knocks if he goes somewhere else?

NardDog NationParticipantThe Knicks would be in hot water if he left, especially if he left for nothing. I doubt he heads to the Heat though because that would mean Dwayne Wade taking $3-$5 million to accomodate Melo’s salary, which I can’t see him doing from an ego perspective. He’s already been on the record saying that he’ll take every penny he could get on this next contract.
If Melo leaves New York, I suspect that he goes to Chicago. He’s developed a rapport with Joakim Noah and has a well known man crush on Tom Thibs. Even with a substandard Derrick Rose, that team would be lethal with that core, their existing supporting cast and several million to spend. Besides that, they are in the East, which is far easier to get to the Conference Finals in. This is why I think Chicago has a leg up on Houston.
The darkhouse in all of this is Boston. If they manage to get another star by leveraging their picks, I could see Melo pulling a Garnett and heading to Boston instead.
