vulture711ParticipantOh yeah – the combine is coming up in two weeks followed by the lottery. Those two events will really kick off the fun on this site. Its tough dabbling too much in mocks when you don’t know who is selecting where. The combine ? Is that guy 6-10 or 6-8 ? Always tends to be someone who rises based on his numbers – Steven Adams for ex…….and a few who disappoint. As a fan – this stretch from May – August is probably more fun than the actual season (at least when your team stinks – like Philly)
Any combine predictions/shockers coming up ???? Risers/fallers because of short arms or a great verticle ????????????

drice4life1753Participant-I think Stauskas will surprise teams and show that he has above average athletic. While he will be a spot up shooter in the NBA he has a chance to grow into a very good 6th man or off the bench scorer.
-Also James Young as a potential riser throughout workouts and scrimmages. He has a real nice stroke and I think he will stand out to scouts a little more, and have more opportunities while not playing on such a high profile Kentucky team.

vulture711ParticipantI think he’s been on the rise and is a guy I’d like Philly to look at in the 10 slot. We desparately need a starting level 2 & 3

Tedy BukasaParticipantI think Elfrid Payton could rise because of his athletic prowess. I’m very eager to see LaVine’s numbers, though I know they’ll be good. There is always a hidden athlete though, I agree with that. Remember Kendall Marshall’s 37.5 vert from 2 years ago. It’s definitely a fun time.

OhCanada-ParticipantAlot of people have been very skepticle on these prospects listed hieght, size, length, and athletisism. It should be very interesting to see if Gordon is 6’6 or 6’9 or if Birch is 6’7 or 6’10.
Aaron Gordon- Listed as 6’8 220 with shoes.
Glenn Robinson III- Listed as 6’6 220 with shoes.
Mitch Mcgary- Listed as 6’10 260 with shoes.
Khem Birch- Listed as 6’9 220 with shoes.
Jarnell Stokes- Listed as 6’8 260 with shoes.
Some guys that should show out are.
KJ Mcdaniels
Semaj Christon
Noah Vonleh (underrated athlete)
Adriean Payne

hbomb3300ParticipantI think LaVine will really blow people away with his quickness and explosion… I bet a team in the lottery will fall in love with is potential. I also agree that Christon will be a riser during the off season activities.

aramboneParticipantI think it’s the year of the non-guard, with maybe 4-5 guards drafted in the top 18-20.
Sooo many good forwards.
But Randle might measure out at 6’7" flat without shoes.
non-guards always rise in the lead-up to the draft, and this year is special in the shear number of quality forwards.
How do you take a Gary Harris or Nik Stauskas or Tyler Ennis when Gordon, Saric, Anderson, Nurkic, McDermott, TJ Warren, Porzingis, Capela, are there, not to mention James Young and Rodney hood, in addition to Embiid, Parker, Randle, Vonleh, and Wiggins.
There are a Bunch of guys with size who are going to be squeezing guards out of the top 18-20, especially since there is great depth at guard in the second round.
We watched Steven Adams, Kelly Olynyk, Giannis, Dieng, and Mason Plumlee all outperform their draft position by a significant margin this year. I don’t see so many quality bigs dropping like that again this year, which is also stacked with good players with size.

DukeDaSquadParticipantThere is a picture of Julius Randle standing side by side with Jabari Parker after the Jordan Brand Classic as both were named Co MVP’s and in the pic, randle is taller than both carmelo anthony and Jabari parker atleast by an inch
Either Julius randle is atleast 6’9" , or Jabari Parker is incorrectly listed at 6’8". Jabari has also been measured at 6’8.5" and 6’9" though melo is listed as 6’7.5" with shoes on and he is about the same height as parker.

People gotta find something to not like
0- Posted on: Sun, 05/04/2014 - 12:02pm #897316
aramboneParticipantCarmelo measured 6’6.25" barefoot at his Combine. If Randle measured out a full inch taller, which I doubt, that would put him at 6’7.25, and I’d be off by a quarter of an inch, and you’d be calling Randle 6’9".

aramboneParticipantMelo looks clearly taller than Parker in that photo. If Parker measures out at 6′ flat, or even Melo’s 6’6.25", that’s going to put a damper on his power forward potential and his draft stock in general.

aramboneParticipantTJ Warren is probably going to shoot like the 3 point sniper he was in highschool and his freshman year at NC State. Somebody is going to tell him to shoot with better balance and with a more consistent release, and that negative will quickly be scratched off his scouting report.
Which means his star potential will be more obvious. Right now he’s derided as a "super-sized SF", but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, duh.

omphalosParticipantKyle Anderson is going to drop once people see just how slow he is in the sprints and the like.
Also,, LaVine will rise, which sucks because I want him to be available for the Celtics with their second pick.
0- Posted on: Sun, 05/04/2014 - 2:10pm #897352
aramboneParticipantAnderson is probably going to weigh in at 240 pounds with above average reach for a center, never mind for a power forward. What do sprint times have to do with anything, unless he was expected to defend guards, which he isn’t and won’t be.
Anderson probably weighs the same as Kevin Durant now, but will keep getting stronger. He’s also arguably as skilled as KD was at the same age, if you factor in Anderson’s superior passing ability.
Anderson has superstar potential, and a very high ceiling. Once he fills out to about 250 pounds, and quickly develops a full set of elite post moves, he’s going to be one of the best players in the league.
And nobody will remember his 3/4 court sprint time from his Combine.
Crap, I think I’m starting to talk myself into wanting him with the first pick.

aramboneParticipantAnderson measured 6’7.5" without shoes in 2012, and is said to have grown an inch since then. Even if he only grew a half inch, or just a quarter inch, that still puts him as tall or taller than Sullinger and Kevin Love, "legit" 6’9" in shoes.
Parker will be lucky to measure 6’6.5" without shoes, which puts him at 6’7.5" or 6’7.75" if you add an inch and a quarter to his barefoot height. Simply outmatched and nearly useless defensively as a power forward, and he is only going to keep gaining weight, which will make him even worse defensively as a small forward.
It is often noted that Parker lacks Melo’s first step on offense, but he lacks the same first step on defense.
Anderson looks like your average string bean, but his base is deceptively strong, and this base is what gets him up to 235-240 pounds right now, before he even fills out his upper body. Those legs might not be very quick, but they are sturdy and allow him to hold enough ground inside.
Anderson might not ever be an elite post defender, but he’ll be sturdy enough. And then he’ll also be a nice help defender with his long arms and bbiq, not to mention his deny defense, rebounding, and tipping balls to teammates. This latter skill is underappreciated since it doesn’t show up in a stat sheet, but it is a real skill. And Anderson’s court vision will come in extremely handy here, tipping rebounds to teammates at an elite level.
One of the more underrated prospects in the draft, Still, mostly because he has pg skills but cannot guard players 5-10 inches shorter than him, lol.

aramboneParticipantNow that I think about it, every prospect from UCLA and Arizona are being underrated.
Anderson and Gordon are going to be real stars, both of them.
And Jordan Adams and Nick Johnson are going to be rock solid rotation players with clear starting potential.
Zach Lavine could easily be a star as well, if he gets a patient coach who gives him a big green light to be Zach Lavine. A coach like Brad Stevens, lol.
If the Celtics could trade down from top 3 or even top 6 and end up drafting all five of those guys, I’d be thrilled.
This draft is simply nasty.
The differences between these following comparisons are surprisingly small:
Jabari Parker vs Kyle Anderson – I expanded on this comparison in a comment above.
Zach Lavine compares quite well with Dante Exum and Andrew Wiggins. Not quite the prospec they are but not a big drop-off and has the potential to be better than either.
Marcus Smart vs Jordan Adams. Smart is the better defender, but they both rack up the steals, rebound, and score at high levels. Jordan Adams is far more efficient offensively, and Smart is more athletic, a better defender, and a passer. Adams isn’t as good as Smart, but they are both extra strong guards with an appetite for contact.
Gary Harris vs Nick Johnson
Height – Harris
Strength – tie
Athleticism – Johnson
Defense – draw
Shooting – draw
Scoring – draw
potential – draw
Johnson is shorter, but not by much and his athleticism advantage allows him to defend every PG in the league and most shooting guards. Johnson isn’t as tall as Avery Bradley, but he is twelve pounds stronger and that goes a long way. Bradley struggles a bit with the tallest shooting guards, as will Johnson, but this concern is overrated in an era of shorter more athletic shooting guards and combo guards.
Again, Johnson isn’t quite the prospect Harris is, because Johnson isn’t the prototype guard at either position, but Johnson is rock solid as a 6th man combo guard like Barbosa, or playing with a taller primary ball handler, or as a starting shooting guard in an uptempo system. I also don’t discout Johnson’s potential as defensive and scoring point guard.
