KHAM83ParticipantRealGM reports its now a certainty that Dallas would move their pick to free up cap space. With that said, who are potential trade partners? Keep in mind, they want to shed salary.
Personally, I think the Hawks should jump on this. If no Howard/Paul deal, I do not think they should spend their cap space this Summer. I think they should save it for next year, and rebuild keeping in mind next year’s strong draft and free agency. I think if they offer to take Carter 3 million and/or Marion 8.5 Million contracts along with the #13 pick, no way Dallas turns that down.
Pls share your trade ideas.

starpyParticipantWouldn’t mind the Raptors looking at this pick if the price is right.

HitsterParticipantIf you consider that a pick could be sold for $3 million and the contract for 13th pick is around $2 million a year for the first two years then the Mavs would free up a nice bit of cap space. Ironically Vince Carter’s contract for next year is $3 million so maybe any taker for him could get that pick.

HitsterParticipantThey clear cap space and if they want to be win now then you can see the logic in using money to sign a couple of veterans on veterans minimum that the league underwrites rather than putting it on a draft pick who may cost more but would play less minutes and doesn’t have the experience etc.

DolanCareParticipantI understand the Mavs not wanting to pay a first rounder, but they’re not going to get much in return IMO. Perhaps they could trade their pick to a contender and get one of their future draft picks? Besides that not sure what assets they can get besides cash back.

bpgbadgersParticipantI think the Bucks should get in, they have the cap space and could take on Marion’s contract, having the 13th and 15th pick they could draft a pg and a sg for thier backcourt. Maybr include Udoh to Mavs

HobbyOGParticipantShawn Marion has mentioned several times if he goes to a team he doesn’t like he will not play for them. I think that scares off teams. Being a some what Hawks fan I don’t think they should trade for this pick. We already have two decent picks in the first round, this draft isn’t that deep or good to add an additional third pick.

Mr. HookShotParticipantMaybe the Cavs: have them pick up Marion as a expiring contract, who is also a veteran SF who could groom Porter (if they take him) and the 13th pick.

arowsky205ParticipantCavs send picks 31 and 33 to the Mavs for pick 13. The Mavs get two cheap, high value guys (I think this is where the best value of the draft is) and can even stash one to clear up a little bit more space. The Cavs move up to get another lottery pick to give them 1, 13, and 19. Maybe they can then package 13 and 19 to get another top 10 pick.

Bigstinky34ParticipantThe Bucks could be an ideal spot to trade the 13th pick cuz they have a $2mil trade exception that they can send to Dallas…

HitsterParticipantIf Marion refused to play then the team who took him would not have to pay him so they could almost get the pick for nothing if they have cap space.

theTKOshowParticipantwell shawn marion has a player option for the next season and said he wouldnt play for a losing/rebuilding team. why wouldnt a team like the bobcats trade for him since he would probably just end up declining the option so he could choose where he plays?
not sure if that is possible, but it would clear $9 mill off the books for dallas and a team would get a free draft pick

ndq1125ParticipantMemphis just announced that they will be buying a first round pic and with almost six different tpe’s I can easily see us buying this pic. And absorbing Carters contract. We could even absorb Marion but we need scoring so I’d rather they take carter.

ReactionParticipantIf I were the Pistons GM, I would ponce on that in a heart beat. If necessary, I would even offer to buy out Shawn Marion. I don’t think the Pistons will use anywhere near their cap space this offseason unless they overpay free agents ridiculously.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantThe think the Mavs are trying to get a 2014 pick for the pick. It was rumored that they wanted a 2014 pick along with the second rounders the Cavs have. You know CG shut down talks right there, he has the biggest first round fetish of any executive in NBA history. If somehow they do pull off the CP3/Howard or even Smith/Howard (hasnt been talked about but why not, helluva frontcourt), they will need future first round picks to replenish the back court.

FutureNBAGMParticipantThat pick could also be used in a salary dumping move to get either Carter or Marion off their books. Ive heard that might be a possibility, maybe with Detroit because of all our cap space this summer.

HitsterParticipantI wonder if Charlotte could come into the mix, they have cap space and might think they could then move up the draft maybe to 2 by combining the picks. Also Orlando have a range of future picks due so might Rob Hennigan have something to offer Dallas if they are chasing a future pick.
The trouble is, teams know that next year’s draft is stacked so may be reluctant to deal a pick from that year.

scliddiardParticipantThe jazz need players, they only have 5 or 6 players under contract and they have plenty of cap space, they could use a player like Marion and even Carter if their contracts are only for 1 yr. and they could draft a player like Giannis at 13 and stash him for a yr or two.
