Does anyone see him having a decent year and earning a starting spot??

Lets be honest, the 76ers arent going to grab a FA center and probably arent going to trade for one any time soon.  The only candidates the 6ers have for the C spot are:

Hawes (if they resign him)
Speights
Brand
Vucevic

Unless there is a trade, I cant see how Speights doesnt start.. However, I thought that last year…

 I could see them starting Vucevic, Speights minutes dropped pretty significantly last season which would indicate they aren’t that high on him.  Vucevic was a good pick for them, and although a lot of 16th picks don’t start for their teams, I think this is a situation where he could.

I have a feeling they will at least sign someone, though.  I have a hard time believing they will let Hawes go and not address the issue.

Philly would probably have to use MLE if they wanted to get an FA centre and with a host of teams chasing Dalambert and Nene and Chandler unlikely to accept MLE then the FA market may not be their route. They could take a flyer on Greg Oden with MLE or maybe try to get Dalmambert back as he was a bit of a legend there first time round.

A lot could depend on whether any trade for Iggy happens but at worse the 76ers have a serviceable front court rotation and are in a position to mae moves next summer as Brand goes onto his last year and they hold a very nice trading chip with Nocioni’s $7.5 million team option for 2012/13.

Until Coach Collins can see Vucevic in rotation then I would doubt they make any major front court moves unless an Iggy trade happens.

huge Sixers fan here.. Speights showed so much promise as a rookie. Since his injury, he has become a defensive liability. Its the only reason he can not stay on the floor. He can score buckets with the best of them, but when your the 4th option on the court (at best) you have to PASS THE BALL… Hes a gunner, and takes horrible shots. IMO he needs to go.. He is still young enough that a tm will take a flyer on him. Hawes is the best passing big on the tm.. Works well from the high post with Brand down low.. Hits cutters well, and is unselfish, but again can not play a lick of defense. They need a defensive minded big in the worst way.

 

Sixers core is Jrue, ET, and Thad (they better resign him)… Iggy has to go, Nocioni the same, and I would not mind if Speights found a new home either… If the Warriors amnesty Biedrins i would make a move for him. He runs the court well, and if healthy would be a solid fit with Hawes coming off the bench.

Speights is not a center he is a PF. Hawes is hot and cold and not the back to the basket player the Sixers need. At PF he has Brand and Thad Young in front of him. they need to develop and play him or trade him ( problem is for what). Vucevic will start in front of him because of his height and post ability. Speights can shoot it for a big man but is not a rebounder or banger that the Sixers need. Our problem that is a premium need for most teams.

 he looked good in the summer leagues…hes gotta bang down low and get more rebounds…he has all the physical ability in the world, if he can prove that he can put it all together and play big, i think he can get big minutes

i agree with what you said above, so you package him… Iggy + speights…. Speights + Lou williams (i like lou a lot but if we can get a need im all for it)… What you can get for them I do not know, but I am sure there is a market for iggy as speculated many times in the past.

 He’s a good athlete with size and BIG talent offensively as a post player or medium range jump shooter, but you talk about a BAD defender who is a blackhole? He’s not good enough to defend as bad as he does.
