IlladelphParticipantInteresting recruitment so far. It seems like for a long time he has been deciding between TCU, Duke, and Kentucky. With the caoching change at TCU, it looks like it’s a two horse race between Duke and UK. For a few weeks now the buzz has been for Duke, and it seems like a foregone conclusion that he will pick Duke.
Duke coaches visited him this last Sunday, and yesterday it was announced that he would participate in tonight’s ESPN recruiting special. Sooo, it seems logical that he would make his announcement for Duke tonight. Right?
Well, his father said yesterday, in response to questions about whether his son will announce his committment tomorrow night or not, that Marques "has no timetable" and implied that he is just going to be interviewed and will not announce.
Question: What is the deal with this guy’s recruitment? Both Duke and UK have had their recruiting classes done for a few months now, so it’s not as if Bolden doesn’t know who he would be playing with at either school. Recognizing that the guy can take as long as he darn well pleases, I just juct don’t understand what he is waiting for. Why take part in an ESPN college basketball decision show, if you are not going to announce your committment? And what other information is he waiting on to make his decision? Thoughts?

ncballerI get negged everytime I tell you all what I hear from people who would know and have yet to be wrong. I would be shocked if he did not go to Duke. Some kids just like to take their time. He is one of those kids, nothing wrong with that.

KingPapasParticipantDuke- Doesn’t have a true point guard on their roster. That should be a problem for a post player who wants the offense to run through him
Kentucky- Has to many post players. He may not want to compete for minutes. Kentucky has shown it doesn’t hurt recruits to not have to play a ton of minutes but some kids want to be handed the keys to the car right away.

BlueRivers25ParticipantAt Duke, Bolden will not be "handed the keys to the car right away" either. He still has to compete for minutes at the 5 behind Amile Jefferson and Chase Jeter. There is also Obi and Vrank pushing him for spot minutes. Also K likes to play small, he can play Giles at the 5 and Tatum at the 4.
It would be interesting to see if he choses to play at Duke, where he will have to earn his playing time.

GBeeParticipantThere’s far less competition for minutes at Duke. I’m looking at UK’s roster and, not including Bolden, they will have 6 players (all 4 star+ recruits) above 6’9 and none of them are SFs.
This SHOULD be a foregone conclusion if he and his camp aren’t idiots, but he can take as much time as he wants. I see no problem with that. It’s not the school’s, fans’, teammates’ decision, this is HIS decision.

ncballerI think he would start over Jefferson and most def plays over Jeter. Whether he does or doesn’t I think he is good enough to get 20-25 mpg right away at Duke and he likely gets the same amount of PT as Jefferson.

BiggysmallsParticipantAmazing that a 17/18 year old has a "camp"
I know all the kids do, but I still just find that idea so odd.
Anyways, yeah I don’t know what the dude is waiting for. Make up your mind already. You are a 5-star guy, you are obviously good and the two schools you are picking are probably the top-2 teams in the country next year. Hurry up and pick one. Neither choice is bad.
Who cares if he starts or comes off the bench. He’ll play in both situations. I’d imagine at this point, he’d likely get more minutes at Kentucky just because Duke has so many guys and K has shown he’s willing to play small more than Cal. Could be because Cal rarely has a shortage of talent up front, but again, neither choice is wrong if the kid is as good as his ranking suggests.
Or he could throw a curveball and pick the University of Minnesota and be the program’s savior.

GtWildcatParticipantI think a UK writer said he had a phone conversation with Coach Cal, maybe it was him telling Cal hes not coming idk I just hope he pulls a surprise and ends the recruitment tonight.
I don’t think he would start over Jefferson, Jefferson plays D and would have made a huge difference for them if he has stayed healthy. K tends to like his seniors especially when they have started in the past.
I actually think he might have more touches at UK than Duke albeit less minutes. Duke has Giles in the post whose going to get priority when it comes to touches and maybe Tatum if they throw him in the frontcourt.
UK has a ton of big men but they don’t have that guy they can dump it down too in the post consistently. I think Killeya-Jones is not going to play as much as people think, he doesn’t look physically ready for the college level even if he is skilled. Bam is gonna be a beast but what I have seen (and I could be wrong ive only seen highlights) he is more of a freak athlete with a motor guy than a skill guy. I did see some back to the basket play in the videos but I don’t think hes gonna be a Randle or Towns where you want to get the ball to the post every play. He ll get most of his points of putbacks, lobs and dunks. Humphries could be a go to guy someday but I don’t see it happening next year, I do expect a good amount of progress from him though.
I think Bolden goes to Duke but I think he could shine at UK and be the go to guy in half court sets.

zolaParticipantDuke and Kentacky both have 2-3 players at C so in the best case, he could get 15 minutes per game. On the other hand, there is some great programs who don’t have true C where he can play 30+ minutes from day one like Iowa State, Notre Dame, Utah
