 There have been many fast starters that have been recognized in this forum, but one of the most blistering starts of the 2013-14 season has been 3rd year big man Markieff Morris. The Suns, on paper, looked to be one of the worst teams in the league this year, and still may be by seasons’ end, but Jeff Hornacek ( Now 5-2 as a head coach ) has been getting the most out of his guys from Bledsoe, to Plumlee, and Markieff Morris.

Through the Suns’ first 7 games Morris is dropping 17.2 ppg 6.8 rpg 1.7 apg in only 28.8 mpg and on 63% FG 50% 3 pt 80% FT shooting. Now these super inflated shooting numbers indicate a hot start that will most likley cool off as the season progresses, but it also indicates improvement in Morris’ 3rd season. Playing the role of a big minute 3rd big who is a main scoring option in the 2nd unit, Kieff seems to have embraced his new role. 

I’ve been around long enough to know these won’t be his end of season numbers, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he evened out at around 13 ppg 5.5 rpg and is at least in the conversation for 6th man of the year.

 While your projection seems very reasonable for his statistics… unless Suns make the playoffs, he’s not going to go close to winning SMOY… look at Ryan Anderson last season, 16.2ppg and 6.4rpg, and finished with 1.8% of the votes…

"in the conversation" is all I said. Ryan Anderson, playing for a non-playoff team, was certainly in the conversation when discussing the league’s top 6th men.

Markieff looks excellent, polished, smooth, agrresive, playing defense, complete game… i think he could become even allstar player, David West type player.

I like your comparison to David West. While I never think he makes an all star appearance I think he may become a borderline star if he gets the minutes. While Marcus was better in college, I think Keiff is better suited for the NBA game. He is a little more physical and better in the pick and pop. Good to see him off to a good start!

 He just won Western Conference player of the month so well timed post. He has the potential to be an above average role player, he reminds me a bit of a young Antawn Jamison. 

I love the way he plays and is a great fit with Bledsoe as he is such a good slasher.

i think we can all agree that he will stay in this league for a long time. Those Morris brothers are both such hard workers. You can tell that they’re such tough kids and have that ‘whatever it takes’ mentality. Markieff Morris has been an awesome early season suprise. IMO even if his numbers decrease at all during the entire season, im more excited to see how long he can keep this fantastic play up. And also how much longer the Suns can keep getting wins. The 2 teams that have impressed me the most are the Suns and Sixers. Both probably wont make the playoffs but ther Suns have a really nice start to the season. If they keep this up then this will help Markieef as well

 I see similarities to one of the original stretch 4/5 type players, Cliff Robinson. Unlike a lot of today’s stretch big’s Cliff was more gritty, a willing defender and a tough guy. Kieff has a lot of those same similarites, the ability to hit a 25 footer, he can play both power forward and center, a strong motor and he’s a tough defender.

I don’t know if Kieff will every drop 20 ppg or make an All-Defensive team, but he does a lot of those same things.
