Now that the tournament is winding down, do you think Fultz’s stock went up or down at this point? I can’t seem to bring myself to put Fox first. Therefore I have Fultz stock stayed at one. thoughts?

His stock won’t change that much since Lonzo did not make the Final Four. He’s still the no.1 prospect in this draft.

I think one of the least valuable tools in preparing for the draft is putting stock into tournament results. Fultz didn’t make the tournament, they were horrible all year, why would his stock now drop?

Lonzo didn’t make the final four but neither did anyone else in the top 5-10. Why would it matter? The fact is NBA teams and their front offices have plenty of opinions on these guys not based on NCAA tournament results. UNC and Gonzaga have potential one and dones, neither whom are the best player on their own team, but that doesn’t put them behind their better collegiate teammates in the eyes of NBA folks. Reactionary drafting probably isn’t in anyones best bet.

I think the NCAA tournamnet is a little like pre-draft interviews – you can sometimes make some conclusions about a player’s personality, although the results may be deceiving.

Fox was impressive.  Still, I watched a lot of all of the top PG prospects this year.  I do think that Dennis Smith is someone who will benefit more playing in the NBA more than college where the floor is more spread and he has decent teammates around him.  His movement and athleticism remind me a lot of Damian Lillard.  Also, his shot is certainly ahead of Fox’s at the moment.  I don’t see him slipping to 8, and if he does, he will be a steal and potential ROY candidate.

Anyways, my PG rankings are still:

    1. Ball

    2. Fultz

    3. Smith

    4. Fox

Fultz was in a great spot pre-tourney i thought. From a draft standpoint, he’d done his part in staking his claim for the #1 pick, and it was up to everyone else to boost/drop their stock.  The only chance he got ousted was if Ball, Jackson and (maybe) Tatum made it to the final four.

I feel like the tourney is more about people playing their way in and out of the first round/lottery. Meteoric rises like Joakim Noah, who was basically an unknown before the first Florida title run, are even rarer today like they were back then.

     Who picks first?

Lakers and Celtics should go with Lonzo Ball. Probably Philly, too. If Philly gets two top five picks I think they just roll out an All Star type team with Ball, Monk, Saric, Simmons, and Embiid.

Kings should go with Fultz or Fox. Extra firepower in the backcourt and a franchise point guard. Unless they go with Tatum, Josh Jackson, and Bridges at the 3. Two picks? NO pick too? Jackson and Fox. Hey, I think Sacto might end up winning that trade. Fox, Hield, Josh Jackson, Skal, and WCS sounds pretty, pretty good. Then they can do a Gay For Pay trade on draft night aka Rudy Gay to the Grizzlies for Chandler Parsons, young assets (Wade Baldwin? Jarrell Martin?), cash, and picks…

Although depending on need, Dennis Smith Jr. might end up being the best point guard in this draft. A Westbrook-esque combination of athleticism and explosiveness.

The tourney does have some merit. Its shows how well they perform under pressure against quality opposition.

Prospects like Fox, Justin Jackson, Thornwell, Dorsey and possibly Brooks draft stock have all risen.

Fultz is not a lock to number 1. I question his character and heart/motor. He decided to go to a weak school where he could be the star and pad his stats nicely. He didn’t even want to play every game as he chose to sit out the last few games. He used to also coast a bit on defense, another sign of heart/motor/integrity of a player

Jackson, Fox, Ball, Tatum, Monk all decided they wanted to play for a strong team with championship hope. They each could have gone to a weak school, looked the hero and put up 20+ppg.

I dont think Washington intended to be a bad rpogram the last 2 years. I also dont think Fultz intended on losing this year. To be fair his decision on being a 1st option was defenitely a good one because thats what he is. He performed better than anybody in that role this year just didnt have a team behind him.

I find it hard to question anybodys character or competitiveness when they average 23 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals shooting 50% 40% 70% as a true freshman. To have that type of production and consistency on an uncompetitive team that truely lacked any desire to win requires the sort of professionalism that is found in an elite group of players.

I think alot of the reason why we tend to have these thoughts and second guess him is because of the stigma on Washington in general and the similarities between UDubs season and LSU’s seadon where Simmons leadership was questioned.

To be fair even if Fultz is not a leader and is not extremely competitive his upside as an offensive weapon still merits the 1st overall selection. Although for those who followed him pre NCAA they would remember a year and a half ago he wasnt even ranked Top 25 in his class. He got to that point by outworking people. He also recieved high praise for his mental toughness and work ethic by USA basketball.

Fultz is a sure thing to me to be a Damian Lilliard type producer from the get go. I feel like Josh Jackson is the same level of prospect though and if my team has already established a PG it would be better to select Jackson.

Fultz should be focus on being a SG, not a PG, he suited much better to SG position where his potential much bigger, i don’t think he’s type of player who fit enough being floor general full time nor quick enough guarding the PGs, you want him operating from the SG position, being free without the ball, scoring and creating from those spots, in the mold of Latrell Sprewell… As PG i think his potential is lower, being someone like  Derek Anderson…

In the NBA one of the most important factors of being a franchise player and the anchor of a teams offence would be who could get you a bucket in a buzzer beater situation. When I look at players in this draft theres nobidy I would rather have in that situation. Markelle Fultz projects to be able to score in just about any situation with the clock running down. If you put a big long wing on him he can drive, if you put a gaurd on him he can shoot or post up, if you trap him he can find the open man and he has so many go to moves and creativity he really screams out 1st option cerebral scorer. This is the biggest reason why I see no reason to draft Ball ahead of him. Jayson Tatum would likely be the 2nd player I would have on this list and Josh Jackson has showed signs and defenitely has the potential to be a killer as well.

I domt think Lonzo Ball is the guy I want to have the ball in an iso situation with the game in his hands. Once you crowd him he can blow by you but has not shown any pull up abillity.
