Here we have 2 guys that were both ranked top 3 in their class at some point in time. Similar size and skill set, and 12 months ago were both relative unknowns in terms of true potential.

Imagine both these guys could have done it again, do you think either would have changed their approach.

Labissiere was lucky to be drafted and went through a horror season at Kentucky. Maker flew under the Radar, got picked 18 spots higher and we still don’t know if he was a steal or reach.

How do you assess the path each player took? How does this affect the strategies of other guys with top 3-5 High School ranking and great tools?

In my eyes, Maker completely beat the system and locked in a guaranteed $4.5m to $10m….even if hes a total bust. Lets be honest…a High School Mix tape did more for Maker than a season of College did for most others.

    Whats you’re perspective?

I agree Maker beat the system, if he played college ball he could of been exposed and his stock could have fallen.

If Skal took the same path and played another year in high school instead of going to Kentucky i think he goes top 10 and at worst top 15.

Skal was in contention for the NUMBER ONE PICK before the season started.  He would’ve went top 5 without being EXPOSED in college.

To be fair Maker "worked" the system and the system "beat" Skal. Maker did everything within the systems requirements while Skal had to go into a draft a year after he generated highschool buzz. He probably would have gone 6th to 11th in that the 2015 lottery.

I think the way Maker worked the system will set a benchmark for other prospects in the future that may have some holes in their game. If there’s a feeling they could be exposed by college, an extra year of HS is an appealing way to go.

You guys are over thinking it because at the end of the day Maker was clearly the better prospect whose has the better physical tools, skills, athleticism and BB IQ.  I said on this board Maker was clearly the better prospect then guys like Skal, Davis, and Ellenson.

Just go watch Thons interviews the guy brags about his defensive rotations and ability to communicate on defense while being a film room junkie.  When you add that up with his 7’1" freakishly athletic frame to go along with legit guard skills and theres no way he bust hell become atleast a high level role player.

All the hype Bender received from espn should of been shares wit Thon but they didnt wanna reward a player who skipped college
