Back when the Utah Jazz seen the heart and soul of the franchise, Jerry Sloan, resign unexectedly and traded their at-the-time franchise player, Deron Williams (whom was the bucket of blame for Sloan’s resigning), Karl Malone was open to the idea of contributing to the team he once played for. Does anyone have any updates if Malone still wants to join the Jazz coaching staff? Or does he have change of opinion?

I remember reading an article about a really weird altercation he had with Kobe’s wife when they played together on the Lakers. Too busy to look for it now but Malone did come off as a Black Hill Billy who was an ass-hole.

Guys, he is from Louisiana! He likes trucks and hunting, he did things in an old school by the books way, even when he was a player. I know the exact situation apb is referring to, it was one where Karl was wearing cowboy boots and cowboy hat and Vanessa asked him, "Hey Cowboy, what are you hunting?". Karl said, "I’m hunting for little Mexican girls", or something to that extent. Vanessa, being a little Mexican girl, was completely offended.

It was obviously a stupid thing for Karl Malone to say, but I do not think you call him "a Black Hill Billy" or anything along those lines. It is not an act, the guy talks with an accent and I personally did not feel he came off as anything other than what he always came off as, which was an old school by the books type dude. John Amaechi even wrote that Karl used to just ignore Jerry Sloan more often than not, and I think every player and coach have issues. But, Jerry Sloan was a great coach and I liked the way Karl approached this interview.

Karl always kind of came off as a bit of a prima donna, but he was an awesome player. He played hard and he was super dominant for a number of seasons. The guy worked his butt off to, he kept in immaculate shape. He once almost did not play in the All-Star game when he was initially snubbed after being chosen as an injury selection, but he eventually decided to play. He also said he would never play with Kobe Bryant after Kobe waved off a Malone pick during an All-Star game when Michael Jordan was guarding him. Well, he ended up going back on that as well. Sometimes, when someone is sensitive, it takes time to get over things. That seems to be the case with Karl.

Karl may kind of be a jerk, I do not know if he is or not. I am sure he probably is not the easiest person to work with. But, I think a lot of players of his caliber probably have the same issues as far as that is concerned. At the very least, I believe Karl Malone would be an intriguing head coach or coach in general. I never really thought of him as one, and maybe he gets into it and does not like it. But, for the Jazz, this guy meant so much to the franchise, a franchise that has still yet to win a NBA championship and has some young talent at his position. If an opportunity came up for them to experiment with Karl Malone, I do not see the harm in taking a chance. I know Kareem has apparently some of the same issues being mentioned with Karl, but I think that he has just never been given a shot. Sure, Karl may talk with a drawl and such, but I think he is not afraid to be who he is and the guy is all business. Another great player who I see as being much the same way is Larry Bird, and he had a fair amount of success as a coach and has been a decent executive.
