ItsRainingNegsParticipantPhoenix needs to add a marketable player to their franchise; without a doubt the Suns was the loser of this lottery. Noel or McLemore would’ve been a start, and adding another top 5 prospect in next year’s draft would’ve sped up the process to return to playoff contention. I believe Noel will go to the Cavs with the first pick (if need I will give reasons). With Afflalo, Harkless, and Harris on board their need for a wing is nonexistent. Their cap room is the biggest issue this team has outside of a long term point guard. With all this being said, if Noel goes first the Suns should take one or possibly two of those bad contracts (Harrington, Turk, Nelson, Davis) from the Magic and give up their fifth pick to move up to two to pick McLemore. They’re guaranteed with or without him to be in top 5 pick contention for next year’s draft. By the time they are ready to contend those contracts will be off of their payroll. The Magic are then in a spot, barring a trade up with Charlotte, to have Burke fall to them at 5 while dumping salary in the process. If the Cavs go another direction with the first pick I think the Magic stay and take Noel.
What thoughts do you all have about this hypothetical, and what are some lottery trade scenarios that intrigue you all?

PistonsFan22ParticipantI think that would be a good scenario for the Suns and Magic. I would love to unload those contacts if I were the Magic. I believe Burke is the guy the Magic will pick whether they stay at 2 or not, so moving to 5 should be fine for them. I don’t see McLemore falling all the way to 5 so that would definitely be a big win for the Suns.
Any trade scenario involving the Pistons and their number 8 pick would interest me. Best case scenario for the Pistons would be to move out of the first round entirely if they can get an unprotected pick in next year’s draft from a reasonably bad team.

frogmanParticipantThe Magic should stay put and select Trey Burke.
PG – Burke
SG – Afflalo
SF – Harkless/Harris
PF – Some stopgap player
C – Vucevic
6th man – Harkless/HarrisNice core to work with and they can get used to playing with each other but they will still be a bottom 5 team next year where they can take Julius Randle to be their PF of the future, I think he would work very well with Vucevic. If the ping pong balls don’t fall their way they may need to trade up a little to pick him depending on how the draft is looking next year but a starting 5 of Burke, Harkless, Harris, Randle and Vucevic to begin the 14/15 season looks mighty fine for me with Vucevic being the Grandpa of the group at the age of 24 (His birthday is just before the season starts) when that season begins.

r377ParticipantI think the Magic should take Burke too, he is going to be a good one. The Magic have a nice nucleus to build around. They can add a PF in next years draft or look to sign a quality FA PF in a year or two depending on their salary.

ItsRainingNegsParticipantOther than the risk of missing out on Burke why wouldn’t you take the opportunity to dump salary?
