The Orlando Magic has some very good young pieces in Nikola Vucevic, Maurice Harkless, Tobias Harris, and Andrew Nicholson…Aaron Afflalo is still young himself and is a very solid pro…But what’s lacking is a young point guard, which could be changed with this year’s draft, if the Magic select high enough to nab Marcus Smart…If such is the case, the Magic will have good young building blocks at every position…In 2014, with some luck from the basketball gods, if their able to draft possible Florida State player, Andrew Wiggins, they’ll have the star talent they need to boost their rebuilding process…Not only will it be a great p.r. move by drafting a local Florida school kid (if Wiggins decides to sign with Florida State), but he can instantly sell tickets and be that Durant like scoring option for the Magic…Now Imagine Vucevic at center, Tobias Harris at power forward, Harkless, Andrew Wiggins, Marcus Smart, Afflalo as sixth man, and Andrew Nicholson? That’s an impressive young team right there…Hopefully this scenario could fall into place for the Magic

If the basketball gods allowed “any team” to draft both Smart and Wiggins, their future shall be considered bright.

Smart and Wiggins could be a new generation Westbrook and Durant, would be interesting to see that combination match up in the NBA a few years down the track.

Magic definitely look good, but they should consider trying to trade Afflalo for Minnesota’s draft pick depending on where they end up; Afflalo is already 27, which is really too old to be a building block for this team, but he’d be very attractive to Minnesota (a team desperately needing a SG like Afflalo) and if they miss out on Smart they could use Minny’s pick to go after Trey Burke or MCW and take a gamble on Noel with their actual pick.

Then you’d be looking at Burke/MCW, Harkless, Harris, Noel and Vucevic – this team would have a size advantage over almost everyone in the NBA, would lack somewhat in outside shooting but would definitely be a tough out for their opponents with so many power players who are all very athletic, and a shot-blocker like Noel inside. This is even before you add in the possibility of drafting Wiggins, and the beauty of it is that Noel would be rehabbing for most of next year so he wouldn’t hurt their chances of getting more lotto balls to get Wiggins.

Of course, on Minnesota’s end they’d have a great defender and well-rounded offensive player in Afflalo who can slide into any lineup and be productive; a healthy lineup of Rubio, Afflalo, Kirilenko/Williams, Love, and Pekovic with Barea, Ridnour, Shved and other assorted pieces off the bench is a contending team with Adelman as coach, no question.

I been wanting to make a thread on him just never had the time, so I’ll just throw this prediction out now, and that’s Mo Harkless is a future star. Had Harkless stayed at St. Johns for his sophomore year I think he could of been the first pick in this years draft. Otto Porter is a top 3 pick , and Harkless is a much better prospect, he would of produced at a much higher rate this year. Harkless would of been the Big East Player Of The Year in my eyes no doubt. He got crazy size, athleticism, a non stop motor, and a great feel for the game featuring great footwork and hands. He’s really going to be a special player.

Who ever gets wiggins has a bright future, he is the best prospect to come out since probably durant or rose. That must have been hard to come up with that if they get wiggins they will have a bright future.

the magic do NOT have a bright future. i mean anything is possible but thats like saying the bobcats have a bright future. They both suck. who knows who they will draft. but i mean u named people like nicholson, tobias harris, vucevic, harkless. as they are good players they dont really stick out to me as guys who lead a promising future for a team. i mean who is thier best player? you cant base a teams future and potential on who they MIGHT draft

yea, at best they have 1 guy that would be a decent 3rd best player on a 6-8th seed. They have no player that you would be ok with being your first or second best player. Those guys are fine in your rotation.

You’re retarded if you don’t think they have a ton of promising players. The Bobcats have like Kemba Walker and MKG, and that’s really it as far as who you would wanna build around.

When it’s said and done the Magic have 2 players in my eyes that would of been top 5 picks had the draft been redone in Vucevic for sure, and Harkless who might end up being the best wing out of the draft, yes I think Harkless could potentially end up being better then Barnes and MKG. Unlike MKG, Harkless has shown no trouble scoring in the league as a rookie, and unlike Barnes, Harkless makes an impact in virtually every facet of the game. Vucevic is only 22 years old and is already a 13 n 12 player at Center, to say his potential is immense is certainly fair. Vucevic will become a Marc Gasol type of impact player.

Tobias Harris and Andrew Nicholson have both proven to be very reliable starters with gobs of potential still. Plus the Magic already have chips at the hardest positions and that’s PF and C.

those guys are all solid options, non of them is a star and no team would want them taking the last shot. They should develop into quality players like the nuggets, but they dont have the wings or point guard to do anything. Harkless needs to work on his offense a lot. He only shoots around the hoop and doesnt have much of a shot. If they get a good point guard and a scoring wing they will be fine and afflalo is ok at that but you dont want him as you best scoring wing.

We all knew that the Magic would struggle this year but there have been some bright spots like the development of rookies Nicholson and Harkness. Whilst Affalo and Vucevic have both had their best seasons. These guys would never form a contenders team on their own but there are the basics there if they can add a legit star in the draft during the next year or two.

I will say they are only 4 wins behind Cleveland this year who have taken 3 top 4 guys in the last two drafts, so they are rebuilding quite nicely. Also the D12 trade isn’t looking too bad on paper for them with the reluctance to take Bynum now looking well founded, you wonder how much better Philly might have been with Harkness and Vucevic this season, The roster does need fine tuning, Affalo could fetch a nice draft pick especially if they could target McLemore and they also have nice upcoming team options on Warwick and Nelson. Plus I could see Davis perhaps being moved on as Harkness, Nicholson and Harris all need playing time.

Orlando also have future picks due which could come when they will be in a stronger position so they will have more options then.

we picked a bad year too suck i think. There is no elite prospects in this draft. The 5th pick in next years draft has more value than the 1st pick this year

I’ve been thinking about this as well. Going all the way back to the 4 team trade, it looks like they might of came out as winners there. Although you can’t get the same value in return when you trade a guy like Howard, i think they did a VERY good job avoiding Bynum and getting Afflalo, Vucevic and Harkless as well as a few picks.

I was also thinking about how nice of a young core they’ll have if they get Marcus Smart, whose one of my favorite players. If their young players continue to develop, there’s no doubt they have a bright future.

They could target Marcus Smart in the draft. Could Nerlens play PF along side of Vucevic ?
