Utah may grab him if they keep pick

I also see the Blazers/Sixers/ and a lot of others wanting him 12 to 24 range...

You'd think GM's would learn

You'd think GM's would learn after what happened with guys like Joe Alexander.

I'm not sure what you mean by

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Joe Alexander was an athlete first and a basketball player second. Babbitt is more skilled than Alexander in just about every department.

Pureshooter: Great Point

Pureshooter, do you see what Delfam was doing? He falling into the trap of comparing white guys only with other white guys. Even though Joe Alexander and Luke Babbit play very different styles, because Babbit is white, he used Alexander as a reference. That is wrong!

We need to get away from racial stereotyping.

Combine Babbitt's size with

Combine Babbitt's size with his Nash-like shooting numbers (50%FG/41/6%3PT/91.7%FT) and superior athleticism and I can now see him potentially going to Clippers at 8. They have a gaping hole at SF and Babbitt is a very safe, solid pick for a disastrous franchise.

Babbit seems legit but

Babbit seems legit but Hayward has not shown anything yet. Also on the comparing white guys to white guys. It is hard not to because you have to really put in effort for some white players not to compare them to another white player. What black player would you compare Babbitt too and I am pretty sure if you dont take the time that player will be as far from Babbitt as Alexander is to Babbitt. That being said Joe Alexander was a terrible comparison. I have only seen a lil bit of Babbitt if that and I know that comparison is off. White player I would compare him to is Mike Dunleavy cept he can post and black person this is a stretch Danny Granger. I still dont see him as a top 10 player though.

Also so people train for

Also so people train for these test because even with these nice stats. Babbit is not explosive but I think with his size and skill level he can make up for it.

We talk about racial

We talk about racial profiling but why do people always say a white player is such a solid and safe pick and have million question marks about any black player except Wall. I even hear Turner getting bashed. I am curious about that.

Sheltwon on Racial Stereotypes

It's not racial profiling, that's a criminal issue. It's racial stereotyping and this is one time where I agree with you Sheltwon because it goes both ways. I'm not talking specifically about Babbit, just observations in general.

Here are some basketball racial stereotypes, I'm sure you can come up with more.

White Player: Smart, Crafty, High Basketball IQ, etc.

Black Player: Great Athlete, Elite Athleticism, etc.

White guys are always portrayed as smart while black guys are usually described as getting by on their athleticism. Excuse me, but the smartest player I ever saw was Magic Johnson, who wasn't a great athlete.

There are many more, but it's so hard for people to get away from stereotypes. That's why I keep pointing that out, challenging people to think outside the box.

comparison

Maybe I'm way off on this one, but for some reason Babbitt reminds me of Al Thornton. They're both small forwards who can be stretch 4s and Thornton was a pretty good shooter in college, too.

There is a possibility Babbitt gets drafted by the Clippers, just like Thornton.

Sheltwon, I honestly now

Sheltwon, I honestly now think you are either A) Racist or B) Have a huge chip on your shoulder for some reason. When someone accused you of being racist previously you brought it up in numerous different threads, often times when it had nothing to do with the conversation-- and brought it up in a very defensive way....

Babbitt is solid in about every aspect of the game.. Everyone said his weakness was athleticism, but he has proved people wrong. You say so what people train for it.. Well guess what, his numbers are going against other people who trained for it as well.. And what do you think when he goes to the league he is going to stop training?

And to your last point, I am curious as to why you make a big deal out of a white player being a safe pick? I don't hear everyone saying that about every white player-- just this one guy. Is it a problem for you that 2 or 3 people think one white player in the draft is a safe pick?

And it's not like they're saying take him over Evan Turner... They're saying take him over Ed Davis, Daniel Orton, etc..

I think babbit's weakness is

I think babbit's weakness is That he can't guard anyone. I don't see that changing with these measurements. Sure he can run and jump better than we all thought which if anything may help him with rebounding, but his offensive game is mostly jumpers with some mixed in post play. On defense he couldn't guard athletes in college and some strong numbers here won't change that in the league.

As far as a comparison I don't mind sheltwon's dunleavy comparison but I think that comparison fits Hayward better. Idk who to compare him to due to the added element in the post

the thing to remember is

the thing to remember is those skill tests are not always an accurate assessment but rather they reflect how well a person knows how to perform the exercise. as mentioned before, some of the best athletes who are currently playing tested poorly and some that tested well seem to be not as good athletically in real game. one of the combine commentators said that a lot of those skill tests were actually more valuable to the NFL than the NBA. I am with jdhl13, if Babbitt cant guard college players, these numbers wont magically make him a better defender.

another thing is....vertical

another thing is....vertical definitely doesnt translate into being a great rebounder (strength, timing, quick leaping ability) or being able to get your own shot (craftiness, shot release, ballhandling/one on one ability) I am not sure if Dennis Rodman had a great vertical leap, but he was lightning quick off his feet and had long arms, Chris Webber comes to mind too (freakish long arms). A lot of times those guys could get 20 boards like nothing because they could follow a missed shot with a tip like 5 times in 10 secs, just keep jumping and tapping and each tap counts as a rebound. Quick leaping is definitely more important to rebounding then how high a player can get up IMO.

I'm not really sure where

I'm not really sure where people get this impression that Babbit will never be able to defend. First of all I doubt most of you have even seen him play more than a handful of times because Nevada is NEVER on TV. Second of all he played a ton of time at the 4 this year so how he defended that position is largely irrelevant since most see him as a 3 anyway. No one is saying, or should be saying that these results mean he is an athletic freak like Wall, Rose or Lebron, but they do mean he is a very good athlete and combined with his size and skill level he should be at worst a solid nba player. As to the Joe Alexander comparisons they're a bit hilarious, but its not really unexpected: black guys get compared to black guys, white guys to white guys and its more than a bit stupid that most of us are incapable of making a comparison that goes beyond skin color to actually accurately describe a player.

this is why I have this kid as the 3rd small forward

George is a shooting guard.
Babbit got game he can shoot and rebound the ball and is a soph.
I seem him dunk on cats many times. I knew he had hops.
Now everyone sees it.
He is not Thornton or Alexander because he got a high IQ for the game.
He got game he knows how to play and can be a good starter or role player in the NBA for a long time.

I guess i may have a chip on

I guess i may have a chip on my shoulder because of dealing with ignorant people who are consumed with race and saying everyone is a racist that says something about a player or person of their race. I speak the truth sometimes the truth comes off as racist. I am a human being so you thinking i am supposed to feel less of a man or person because you gave me a A or B that is both negative is laughable. I already said I like Babbitt. I said I liked Babbitt earlier. Thornton and Babbitt are not much alike. Thornton explosive is better and Babbitt is actually more heady to me in my opinion. I do realize no one can tell what a person is thinking but Babbitt makes moves that makes it seem like is more aware. Also rbt I like it how you said the same person I mentioned earlier so I at least see you are starting to respect some of my knowledge even though I dont know why you like Hayward so much.

It is funny when people try

It is funny when people try to compare a white player to a black player that they are like so far off it is like you would do better comparing that white player to a another white player like most people do. I am sorry it is funny because I try to see into some people comparisons and I am like huh.

I think he should be able to

I think he should be able to some degree but may have trouble with more explosive athletes but most defender do. If he plays smart he should be one of those players that dont jump on pump fakes and just stays with their man. Granger is not that athletic but he has been a good defender at times and I think you can put Babbitt in that category but he has to want to be do it because if he does not work on it he does not have appear to have the natural ability to just get by.

Sheltwon on Hayward

I think you're putting more into what I said about Hayward.

I think Haywards's an excellent small forward with a very well rounded game. In my opinion, he should go somewhere between 12 and 20 in the upcoming draft.

He drives to the hoop using both his strong and weak hand, not many players can go both ways.

I believe he was the leading rebounder at Butler, a skill many people overlook in him.

Having said that, I think he would benefit a great deal by staying in college one more season because he's only 20 years old and his body isn't ready for the NBA. However, Hayward has to leave now because Butler went to the Championship game and that elevated his status big time.

I don't think he'll do much his rookie season, but after Hayward has 2 or 3 years experience and gets stronger physically, I think he will become a prime time small forward.

Two things, nobody on Nevada

Two things, nobody on Nevada guarded anyone for the past two years. The fact that Babbitt tested out as a good athlete should be encouraging, but also raise the question as to if he is physically capable of guarding small forwards then why is it he could not stop anyone in college. Second, he struggled mightily with the length and athleticism of Chace Stanback, the army of UNC bigs, and Delroy James. It is one thing to be able to run and jump, it is another to apply the athleticism. NBA teams don't make swings through Montana and Idaho, so maybe people shouldn't get all hung up on a Big Ten-level recruit (he was at one time committed to Ohio State) tearing up guarantee games against low major teams.

Babbit is basically a mix between Beasley and Murphy. If he gets on the right team he will be a decent role player, possible eventual starter. The questions with him will be about his defense and playing the elite level competition night in and night out.

So your way of dealing with ignorant people who are consumed with race is by saying something that can and sometimes does come off as racist in return?

And I'm not trying to make you feel like less of a man. Having a chip on your shoulder isn't necessarily negative, either, I just am under the opinion based on your responses that you either have a chip on your shoulder or are somewhat racist.

As for my Luke Babbitt comparison... Off the top of my head I'll say a mix between Ryan Gomes and Tim Thomas..

Hawes i laugh at that. I

Hawes i laugh at that. I dont race bait man. I just speak the truth but if it offends then so be it. I think people need to look the definition of racism and racist remarks. If you don't want to say I have creditials to say what I said then say so. Accusing me or racist remarks or anything to that effects is ignorant. I speak the same evenly on any race of player. I say stuff about African American players that would be considered racist if I was a different color but I say it. No one gets upset unless I say something about a race that is not my own. People did not start getting upset until I said stuff about a white player but when I was dissing black players unless it was their favorite no one said anything. You tell me what is up. If you think what I said was racist you answer this why was Larry Brown so high on Gordon Hayward. Why also has Larry Bird say on record and try to obtain Luke Jackson, Adam Morrison, and Joe Alexander. He did not get them. They all went higher in the draft then he picked. He did however draft Hansbrough who is a pretty good player but he was already stacked at that position and they have players of need still available. If you can answer these question without saying what I said then enlighten me.

@ hawes I told my friend about the racist thing and he laughed

I am almost 30 and I have never been accused of racism at all. This is kind of a joke to me. Also who is this world that loves sports doesnt have a chip on their shoulder. I don't know any of my sports friend who doesn't have a chip on their shoulder. When you make statements like that they seem geared negatively because if not why would you say that. Regardless if you are white or black you should know where i come from. I am not doing anything that you and rbt does. I see people on here either they take shots at black people or they takes shots at white people. I take shots at all races and I am called a racists. Explain that to me. I am not politically correct. I know this. Being that way is stupid to me if i am on a fan site because this site is about expressing your thoughts and what not to fellow fans. I can do the politically correct than when certain users are present. To the people i know i can talk real too I will be honest. It would appear people in this world are all too sensitive.

This is not even related to basketball. I thought it was funny how people also said that those robots in transformers 2 were racist. They were not racist to me. They were a little over the top. Some of the stuff they said could be considered racist but it was even that big of a deal to me but some people were calling Michael Bay a racist. I disagree. I dont know Bay personally but to call him a racist based on that is stupid. I dont know what on this site have I ever said that was racist. I have never said white are this or that. Never said that about any other race.
Before you put me on blast please get your facts right.

I have never had any issues with you and do not look forward to any in the future.

I dont know why you would attack me on a personal level and I have never said anything about your or against you. You dont even have a picture up so i dont even know if you are white or black or anything else.

When you talk about black

When you talk about black players, though, you do not bring up their race. In every thread I've seen about a white player you're in their talking about race and "why do people think he's this and why blah blah blah it's cuz he's white...."

You just complained because someone said Babbitt was a safe pick, then you went on a rant about how every white player is a safe pick but Evan Turner gets bashed. That makes no sense. Babbitt is the only white guy I've seen anybody call safe in this draft. One white guy gets called safe and it gets you worked up and you expect people not to think you're even slightly racist?

By the way, I hate politically correct. I applaud you not caring about that. I'm not gonna be politically correct either though, which is why I am speaking out myself.

I think I know what you are trying to say but people are just nitpicking at you because you aren't saying it clear. I think you are not racist at all, and do not even think about race when you make your posts, you just say what you believe and you are not racist you are just saying facts. And than people try to say you are racist because you are just being real. The people that are racist I believe are the ones who always have it on their minds to call someone else it. Real people who are not racist, do not even think about racism. They might compare a white guy to a white guy or a black guy to a black guy, but that is because white people play more like white people and black people more like black. When you go out of your way thinking about racism and trying to compare white to black just to be non-racist, I think you are becoming a victim of racism. Real people do not even think about white or black when they are posting and that's what true, good, non-racist people do. End this white to white, black to black crap, just compare players, if they are more like a white player who cares? If they are more like a black player, who cares? Their are many white players athletic and low basketball i.q. There are many black players unathletic with a high basketball I.Q. Just quit accusing people of being racist by comparing players. Most people don't think about it like that...

I do not get

Why race is brought in. Each player is unique in their skills and size and everything else. Black, White, Chinese, Spanish, tall, short, athletic, high i.q... Everybody has a unique skill set and I think you should be able to say a player has a high i.q. or is athletic, regardless of his race, without race or racism getting brought into it. It's a damn shame. And it's a damn shame that people go around accusing people of racism when they don't say anything racist, just compare two white guys or something. Ain't it a pity? Delfam started it but Sheltwon continued. Just forget it and let players play.
