Am I the only one that thinks Luka Doncic is clearly a better prospect than Micheal Porter JR? NBADraft.net has MPJr. ranked higher as do many other mock drafts. Although Porter’s injury has no doubt slowed his development it may have helped his stock.

Lately the concerns around Luka would be with his 3-point shot. He has struggled shooting. To his defense Real Madrid has one of the toughest schedules in terms of physicality and Doncic takes a beating on most nights and alot of tough shots. I watched a game against Olympiakos, a Greek D-1 team and they were giving him shots on what seemed to be every play. In the NBA the refs wouldnt allow that.He is 18 and faced with the responibility of leading one of the most prestigous sporting clubs in the world to success. Its unlikely we will see anything like this again.

When it comes to sheer skill Doncic is #1 in the draft and will enter the league as one of the most talented players in the NBA. I have him as the clearcut #2 behind Ayton. I truly see no way Porter gets picked ahead of him.

Doncic seems to be one of the most NBA-ready prospects in the draft because of his playing experience despite being just 18 years old (probably one of the most NBA ready 18-year-olds ever), but it’s really tough to compare the two with Porter being out.

Porter Jr. was thought of as the top prospect in this class to some before his injury. His skill, athleticism and versatility is very attractive to the new-age NBA. I would be tentitive to compare the two, or any comparisons revolving around Porter without having seen him play meaningful ball.

My top 3 guys have length, range, and athleticism.  You NEED all 3 of those things.  So, somebody without all those 3 (Young, Doncic) doesn’t crack the top of my list.

    Gimme motor too.

I like Bamba, Porter, Jr., and Jaren Jackson, Jr.

With Doncic, he already doesn’t look like a speed-freak, not an athletic freak either, and not sure what his position is (undersized point forward?), so if his 3 point shot is erratic then I don’t like him that much.  Pencils out more as an ideal 6th man than a alpha top dog on your squad.

When the top 3 of the top 4 guys in the league are ultra-sized wings with athleticism and versatility who can SCORE (if not shoot from deep), guys like Durant, LeBron, and Giannis aren’t going anywhere.  That’s why I like a guy like Porter, Jr. — UNLESS you can convince me that Doncic is the next James Harden, and he sure as heck might be.

Then I actually like Porter, Jr. AND Doncic more than a guy like Steph Curry (who might not even finish in the top SIX in MVP voting.  Embiid or Anthony Davis could get more votes than him).  Plus, Trae is smaller, less athletic, and less quick than Steph and is less of a pure shooter/scorer.

I need to see more of Ayton.  Could go 1.  Not sure I would take him over Porter, Jr. though.  And, I really like Bamba (at least his upside potential).  I could see Ayton falling a bit to 4 or 5.

Doncic looks like a guy in the 4 to 7 range.  Trae Young could go 3 — or in that 8-10 range.  Jaren Jackson could literally go anywhere in the lotto (top 14).  Maybe the same with Bamba for that matter.  Porter, Jr.’s floor is probably 5 and the player most likely to be in everybody’s top 3 or 4.  Mikal Bridges: could drop to mid-first round.  Could shoot up to 3.  I think Grayson Allen could end up being a late lotto pick, IF you think he is a great 6th man option AT WORST, or a solid James Harden/Tyreke Evans type.

No, Doncic seems to be a better prospect.

MPJ suffers from Harrison Barnes syndrome. People see he can shoot and is super athletic so he is automatically a top pick (even though his rebounding is elite). But I’m not sure Porter can shoot better than Doncic. His ball handling doesn’t seem to be something be screaming about either.

If he was healthy, you would be able to tell in 10 college games whether he was closer do Durant, Harrison Barnes, or Gerald Green, but he’s not so I don’t have him over Doncic

So glad the Cavs held onto that Brooklyn pick despite the narrative of it not being valuable because is wasn’t projected to be top 5. As long as that pick is in the top 7 the Cavs should get a really good prospect.

Doncic might actually be a great pick for the Cavs.  Could be his ideal FIT.

Doncic can run the 2nd unit or at least be their main scorer, then at some point being LeBron’s Robin if LeBron resigns in Cleveland.

At some point, Doncic takes over the team as a point forward.

Puts him on another level. He’s 19 dominating Euroleague in a stacked team. Now of course it’s hard to know what he’ll be like on defense.

On offense he’s a big two or a playmaking three. I think he would fit well in teams like the NY, Sacramento, Orlando or Memphis but he ‘ll go after the bigs at the 5-8 range I think

As long as we don’t see Porter post injury (which was one if his main strength), it’s hard to take a gamble with a top 5/6 pick on him, and he’s not proven at the college level.

If Porter was as healthy as he was a year ago, I’d only consider he or Ayton 1st and considering today’s NBA isn’t centered around centers anymore, I’d take Porter.

Doncic is amazing within 10 feet with an absolute arsenal to score. He’s killed at a very high level of competition and he’s a gamer. He can pass real well too. His outside shot looks a little suspect to me.  I give it a C. But he will be NBA ready on Day 1.

I just think Porter is in that Ben Simmons pedigree (not a comparison). You can see the work ethic. His handle isn’t great, he doesn’t pass enough, and his 3 ball isn’t there yet. But since neither skill is so far off and because he works so hard, I expect he masters both. He kills it in ISO (next level ISO), has an outstanding step-back, and is so great at the rack.  He really knows how to use his length. You can see he puts in work like the great ones do. I expect, in every way, that he’ll be a top player in the league (as long as he’s healthy… a big if).
