looking at the lottery teams.
((sacramento kings)) = they must stay healthy. with garcia havin an all around lower season because of that calf injury, it hurt the kings in the beginning. kevin martin must stay healthy and pull through the groin and ankle issues. martin, like grizzlies' rudy gay, needs to have a breakout season in assists, steals, turnovers down, higher percentages. next, they need to pull some trades off on draft night and sign some decent free agents. I wouldn't mind them trading to get rubio. but i know king fans who are loyal out there do not want to see hawes or thompson going. i see hawes going being the kings are higher on thompson, it's just the way it is. a free agent to replace nocioni at SF is key also. i think with rubio-martin- thompson, you have an amazing core there. also a free agent center with some bench help could bring this team back to 30's to low 40's like the grizzlies. the key is health and picking up more bench talent. playoffs? - not likely for the next 2 years
((memphis grizzlies)) = If they take thabeet, they will have another 20's season in the wins collumn. which i highly doubt and won't buy into any rumor that they're high on thabeet nad will take him. if the right trades bring the right people and they stay healthy again, i think they'll end up 35-40 wins. they're still young. very young... and i'm expecting gay and mayo to finally pull through. rudy gay should be an allstar this year if he has the determination and will to better himself more. mayo is atleast 2-3 years from making the all star team in my eyes. playoffs? - doubtful for the 09-10 season. but with conely, mayo, gay, and gasol already, how could you not see this team making the playoffs in the next two years.
((oklahoma city)) = watch out for this team...if all healthy and the right piece in this draft with a free agent or two....this team should make the playoffs either in 09-10, or the year after. durant looks to be one of the most unstoppable players...and he's still learning...and what is he...20? i see this team getting 45-50 wins next year. in my mind, i see a winning season atleast. playoffs? - very...very likely.
(( LA clippers )) = depends with will, desire, health and some trades. if they can get rid of randolph with the 1st pick...and get something in return with that..and maybe get rid of another contract...davis or camby, it should open some playing time to the young core which looks very good. if they keep baron, i hope he actually puts some will into this team and his game. i think they'll have 35-40 wins at the most. playoffs? i'm having a really hard time seeing it happen next year. but if they find some way possible..... we'll see....
(( washington wizards)) = depends on health. and if they can trade this 5th pick or make something out of it, they're back to the playoffs and will be an issue and frightening team...once all healthy... 40-50 win season...if healthy. playoffs? - if not this year coming, then the year after.
((minnesota timbo)) = HEALTH...and With the right selection and or trades in this draft..and keeping the core healthy...i see this team making some noise next year. why? look back in january of this year...remember their streak? they also need some free agents. 40-45 wins at most. playoffs? - next year or the year after.
((new jersey nets)) = (desire). lots of desire is gonna get them there. they need a really good PF or SF in free agency. i'm not a big fan of jilian. i'm hoping they get a powerfoward worth putting next to brooke lopez. with harris, carter, lopez, they got some scary talent there. like i said, a decent powerfoward playing with lopez to me is they key. there are plenty of sf's they can pick up in the draft or free agency. 40-50 win season playoffs? i'm thinking very likely. if not, the year after for sure.
other playoff considerations - phoenix, charolette, toronto.
further out - new york, indiana, milwauke, goldenstate
while i think the thunder have a lot of talent and with the right pick could be special. i dont think they are deep enough to go for 50 games. In a couple of years theyll be real contenders tho.
completely agree with the clippers idea. they got the talent they just need to work hard, get rid of randolph, and put it together. i also think its time to change dunleavy to gm and get a new coach.
washington could be very good if arenas comes back and they can trade for an effective big man.
jersey, if they land boozer and trade carter for some depth on the wings, theyre gunna be a very good team.
unfortunately i dont think minnisota will be good for a couple years
Hey I'm gonna ask you guys something. How do yall feel about Mike Conley? I don't hear a lot of love on here for Conley. Let me defend my position that Conley is going to be a real good starting point guard. Check his stats the last two months or so this past season. I'm telling yall I think the light bulb's going on for this guy and it will carry over next season and beyond.
thanks man, but i see okc deep enough for playoffs. durant's gonna show why. i'd rather see arena's back and perform! lol. afterall, that was a huge contract eh. i like your idea about new jersey. boozer and lopez....ouch to anybody having to guard that. i see minnesota needing a real big man, and a real point guard. there've been ideas that hinrich will be traded with some picks. and if thabeet dropped low enough....hmmm. imagine minnesota getting hinrich and thabeet...and somebody in free agency.
Why do people automatically count the Knicks out of the Playoffs? We were in the hunt last year will 100 roster changes. With a full season of stability as long as we re-sign Lee, I am making the bold prediction that they make the Playoffs. The D'Antoni system might now win championships, but it can win a crapload of games.
I live in Sac so i have a pretty good idea of what's going on with the Kings even though I'm not a fan. Everything you said about them makes sense if they wanted to turn it around right away. Unfortunately for the Kings fans, the Maloofs are not gonna be spending any money any time soon. They desperately want a new arena and have been trying to get the city to build them one for about 5 years. The people refuse to pay the money and now the economy sucks as well. So the Maloofs are gonna just let the team rebuild through the draft while they continue to cut salaries and try to save money. There will be no big name trades or Free Agent signings in the near future.
I agree Knicksfreak. I think the Knicks will be the 8th seed next season.
They will have like 2-4 guys having career years because they will all be expiring contracts
i'm sorry, but playoff teams take quite a bit of depth. i think new york needs a young rising star to carry them to the next level. and the east is starting to look extremely competitive.
Conley needs to break out next season. I think this is his team to run IMO.'
I see- 15ppg, 3rpg and 5-7apg...
i like him. he showed why he's worth it at the second half of the season last year. it all depends on mayo wanting to be the point guard...if mayo demands it, the grizz will draft rubio, trade conely for SG-SF talent, and trade rubio for a pf.
Knicksboy somebody has been paying attention again... those were just about Conley's averages to end the season. Hush now...maybe my Blazers can still pry him away while everyone is still sleep!
As a fan of an opposing team, Conley does'nt scare me at all. He does'nt shoot with any consstency and he does'nt finish strong in the paint. It's too early to give up on him, but he needs to keep his confidence up if he's gonna break out.
I think this is a Make or break year for him.....
With 2 1st round picks in 2010, if Conley does not perform well, Memphis may try to get John Wall
memphis won't be looking for wall if mayo wants point guard. i see conely going to portland for outlaw/more/and a pick.
Yea if Mayo wanna play the PG...If Mayo wants to Play PG and Memphis makes this deal...then can James Harden go 2nd in the draft?
The knicks have a very deep bench as long as we make some re-signings.
Our bench is better than any of the teams you listed to start this post.
The Wizards should keep the 5th pick. I know they want to save money but they could add a really good player. Regardless of what they do with the 5th pick I see them making the playoffs next year as long as everyone is healthy and stays healthy.
Minnesota is still probably 2 years or so away from making the playoffs. They can greatly improve their team through this draft. They just have so many holes to fill....A long post player, a legit star starting point guard, a young tall talented SG. The development of Brewer could really help.
I agree the Nets could use a tough active PF like Blair or even Hansbrough. However, I am not sure I could pick one of those two guys over Clark or Johnson. I think Clark or Johnson would be great fits because they are very versatile. Both guys will probably be able to play SF or PF. Plus they offer more potential than Blair/Hansbrough. The Nets should make the playoffs next year.
I still think the Clippers will probably never make the playoffs haha. I'm serious, I just don't think Griffin is the saviour. Baron is getting older. They are stuck with Randolph. Unless they get John Wall next year ha I just don't see their future being too bright.
OKl City is still a little too young to make the playoffs next year. Maybe the year after. If they add Gortat through free agency and pick Harden in the draft then they will be greatly improved but still not good enough in the brutal Western conference.
Memphis needs to trade the 2nd pick then somehow pick Tyreke or Harden. Hopefully they get a useful PF in that trade too. If this occurs I think Memphis will be one of the most improved teams come next season. Still not quite playoff caliber but 2 years from now watch out. Plus if they take Evans which I really think they should they will have two big guys in Evans & Mayo who can play PG. That means Conely could and probably should be traded.
Regardless if the Kings trade for Rubio or not I still think they are at least a couple years away from making the playoffs. I just don't see any bigtime mature clutch players on that roster that can lead a team to the playoffs.
I expect the Suns to return to the playoffs with a healthy Amare. Plus if they add somebody like Clark or Johnson with the 14th pick that could be a huge pickup.
Knicks, Pacers, Bucks, Bobcats, Warriors, Raptors will all have dissapointing years I predict and all will miss the playoffs.
harden is my pick over any shooting guard to be honest. finish with both hands. 6'5 220 pounds. he's just 10 more pounds than mayo....if the grizzlies had mayo, harden, gay,(hypothetical pf), gasol.....WOW
Yeah I agree this is Conley's last shot and I think he will do his part. The interesting part of it is rumor has it Memphis wants to see Mayo run the point. But what if Memphis has a shot at John Wall like you stated? Things could get messy.
Some point guards take a while to get to that next level and I can see that with Conley as it took Felton a while and now people are high on him. Conley dealt with a lot of inconsistencies he first few years but now with a new coach and a better structure he was shining. Numbers wise he doesnt have to do much but keep Gay and Mayo happen and limit his turnovers and make timely shots. He will be like Billups in that regard pretty soon. Also I want to Knicks to be good but until they stop gutting their team, it will be hard to make the playoff in the improving East. They are close to actually having 5 playoff quality teams while the West has 9 and counting.
I think he needs a fresh start. Portland would be a great fit for him. Unless he can forget all the negativity that has been talked about him in memphis the last couple of years!
then it's safe to say if it's true mayo wants to run the point, conely has just 1 season to go. by then, mayo's gonna have all the skills necessary. out of this draft, i want memphis to get a PF who can move......i mean move.....and i'd like to see harden.
i think the Grizzlies should trade Conley for Outlaw+Rodriguez to Portland. Then they should trade down to Sac for the likes of Garcia + the 4th pick for their Second pick at least. If the trade for Thompson +4th pick can't happen.
2009-2010 Memphis line up:
PF: Thompson or Hill (4th pick)
SG: Harden (4th pick)/ Garcia
t-wolves playoff chances > clippers' playoff chances???? no! if baron is in shape and committed, he has a good shot at leading them to playoffs. he said he is determined to have the best season of his career. if so...clippers = playoffs. he is the x-factor. if he tries, the whole team will try. if he dives on the floor, the whole team will dive on the floor (well except for zach randolph). if he crashes and burns, the team will crash and burn. he is that type of player. Not just due to his play, but due to his personality.
The grizzlies need to do whatever it takes to get Thompson and Harden. Thompson and number 4 (Harden) for Rubio, Laker pick, Arthur Milicic and maybe Kings send a bad contract
harden at the...what position?
6th man or starting SG move OJ to point
