    http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/67968/20100708/raptors_sign_kleiza_to_$20m_offer_sheet/

4yr20Million offer to restricted FA Linas Klieza.

Linas Kleiza is an experienced 25 yr old 6’8 230 pound SF with an extremely reliable 3 point shot which can catch hot streaks at times becoming very dangerous. HE was originally drafted by Portland then traded to Denver where he played 3 years. Last year he played in Europe with Josh Childress and it seems he has improved his inconsitancy flaws and got his body into better shape. HE is not the most athletic player in the world but will always have a home in the NBA do to his 3 point shot and good positioning and team play.

My question to you is do you think the Nuggets will pick up the offer, or did the Raps send the right amount no to overpay but also secure their target.

I think the Raps didnt overpazy and will not get Klieza but I’m glad they didnt overpay.

Another international player. Denver will probably match that though.

As good as a player like Kleiza is at just being a role player and not trying to go above and beyond both his skill level and team needs i don’t like the offer just because it doesnt do anything for the raptors in sense of becoming a more athletic and better defensive team which is somethingwe struggle with due to all the slow footed players we’ve had in recent years.

As I expected, BC is panicking about his job and would try to do more damage to the Raptors long term future by trying patch this team again.

The Raptors need a rebuild from top to bottom. Kleiza is a solid player and 5 mil a season for 4 years is a decent deal. Considering that BC usually overpaid, this is a solid signing.

However, Kleiza is yet another role player with a Euro background (a lot of people dislike BC keep collecting Euro role players), he would not help the Raptors to go anywhere.

The Raptors roster consists of a bunch of role players that may not even be able to reach the playoff. BC is still trying to sneak into the playoff and getting the 8th spot for a 1st round exit. Can this moron start rebuilding already? The Raptors need to suck a few seasons and accumulate young assets and not being borderline competitive.

If DeRozan can develop into a star, I can certainly see him leaving the Raptors as soon as he can (just like Wince Harder and Bosh).

    The Raptors is beyond repair.

Denver is likely to match the offer since it is a reasonable deal.

It will likely be a financial decision for Denver. In this case, I can certainly see BC throwing this 20mil contract at Ryan Gomes.

I am disappointed that BC did not try to go after Josh Childress instead (if he’s not rebuilding anyway). Childress is a better all-around player.

Maybe they should have picked another day to break this news… it just might get over shadowed a bit by another signing later today.

Kleiza is legit, I see his pro ceiling around 16 points and 8 rebounds per game, but even if he doesn’t reach that he’s good for a consistant 11 and 5 off the bench. For as crazy strong as he is, he’s has nice footwork and decent speed, not to mention he’s a very skilled player with range and passing ability. His defense isn’t great, but his strength gives people problems sometimes. He’d be a great guy to add to ease the pain of losing Bosh.

I would think Denver would try to get him back, but the fact he left Denver in the first place makes me wonder if he had problems with the organiztion or just wanted to be closer to home. Not a lot was reported as to why he went overseas, so I’m just speculating, but you’d imagine Denver would want him back, or something in return.

What the heck is Bryan Colangelo doing? This is a bad signing and unless he has a deal in place for Turkoglu then this deal makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. Like he is ruining the team worse than Babcock.

Kleiza has no issues with Denver Nuggets. The reason why he left Denver was purely financial.

Denver Nuggets had been very close to luxury tax area for the past a few years (Kenyon Martin’s Max deal, Melo’s Max Deal, Nene’s big contract, Billups’ big contract, etc). That didn’t leave much money for Kleiza when he became a restricted free agent, so the Nuggets did not give him too much money back then. Kleiza also did not get any good offers from other NBA teams because everyone feels the Nuggets would match the offer (probably they would have done that and make salary cut through trade later). At the end, Kleiza got a big offer from Greece, so he decided to leave Denver.

I can certainly see Denver matching the offer as 20 mil for 4 years is reasonable for a serviceable rotation player like Kleiza. However, it will definitely be a financial decision.

Babcock is probably one of the worst NBA GM in the league history. Maybe has something to do with why the TWolves are also making illogical moves for the past few years (he joined back the TWolves since he was fired).

As many times as I called BC a moron, he is not too too bad compare to his peers (since I think most NBA GMs are morons anyway with the exception of a few good ones). BC is average at best and has no idea how to 1) Build a successful team, 2) manage the salary cap properly, 3) take advantage of his assets.

However, Babcock’s record is unmatched by any morons in the NBA.

    1) Draft Araujo – a total bust that has bust written all over him before the draft. Took him at 8 while everyone else projected him to be late teen pick at best.
    2) Draft CharlieV and Joey Graham over Granger. At the time of the draft, I think Granger is a top 5 player, but somehow everyone passed up on him. The worst thing is that the Raptors passed up on him TWICE. (by the way, I probably would have drafted Granger @ 7 and Gerald Green @ 16)
    3) Took to much time to finally decide on trading Wince Harder. Even since Babcock was hired, Wince Harder had been demanding a trade, Babcock was so stupid not to trade him out when his value was high. Ended up Wince Harder, being the loser that he is, quitted on the team and played like trash to the point that Babcock got 3 Williams, a kidney (Zo), and 2 first round picks for a SUPERSTAR in his prime (back in the days).

I can’t see any GM to top Babcock’s suckiness.

    realgm…

Has it dawned on you that with the Maple Leafs Entertainment ownership and Toronto franchise in general BC has limitations. the owners tell him his job is to put a fun product out there with good character people to build positive morales in the community sorrouding the GTA area and thats what he does. International players to appeal to the international diversity and good people in general.

BC’s job is not to make the fans happy its to make the owners happy from a certain time point to a certain time point. When BC gets fired because the fans are to upset the owners will pick someone elese up to that same job.Just sell the seats while doing that and the owners are happy.
