WinterSoldierParticipantI was thinking about this the other day I couldn’t think of any elite left handed players. I know James Harden and Chris Bosh but I don’t consider either one elite. I don’t think there are as many left handed players so it might just be correlation. So my question, Is it a weakness to be left handed as far as teaching them how to shoot, or is it a strength because there forced to learn how to play with both hands?

FourParticipantBut there have been a few good ones. David Robinson, Tiny Archibald and Chris Mullin were the first three to come to mind. Before my time but I think Bob Lanier, Dave Cowens and Willis Reed were all lefties. And of course the all time winner, Bill Russell. That’s not many, and mostly big guys for some reason.
At least four of those were on the "50 Greatest Players" list a few years back and I think less than 10% of the world is left handed…so that might be about, though it is a ridiculously small sample size!
So I’m not sure it is a strength or weakness, I think there are just not many lefties lol! But don’t listen to me, I expected Harold Miner, Anthony Peeler and Travis Best to be studs…and Kenny Anderson to be a HOFer! I’ll spare heaping praise on Randle in an attempt not to curse him.

ReturnofthelemonParticipantMichael Redd wasn’t that bad as I recall if he could stay healthy.

GabnosisParticipantOf the population is left handed, so that’s why left handed players are rare in the NBA and not all left handed are going to be all stars.

Andrew1984ParticipantSome others that haven’t been mentioned are David Lee, Goran Dragic, Thad Young, and Kendall Marshall. Among the less elite, there’s Tony Wroten, Terrence Jones, and Shabazz Muhammad.
Historically, there was also Artis Gimore, Toni Kukoc, Jalen Rose, and plenty of others.
Interestingly, we haven’t had a right-handed president since Bush Sr. since left office in ’92.

terrancebowerParticipantDon’t forget Manu and Tayshaun! Not elite, but just sayin.
I’ve noticed that a lot of lefties really stick their elbow out when they shoot, they don’t really square up and kind of launch their shots like a catapault. Anyone else ever notice that?
