Lebron or Carmelo to the Timberwolves?

http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/smith_100621.html

-- So how would LeBron fit with the Minnesota Timberwolves? I know, I laughed, too. But then I was told it wasn’t such a funny idea, which suggests even more so that this recruitment of James is going to take even more forms than we imagined possible.

The talk is the Timberwolves intend to be very aggressive with their cap space and not accept some veteran or modest talent under the assumption no free agent would go there. As it was pointed out to me, Brett Favre went there because it was a better chance to win. And Favre left New York to go to Minnesota, whose sports teams, including the Twins, have a successful track record and supportive fan base.

The thinking goes like this: The Timberwolves have three firsts and seem willing to part with Al Jefferson, a post up inside player, or Kevin Love. Say Jefferson is in greater demand because he is a bigger scorer. They offer Jefferson and their three firsts, including No. 4, to Denver for Carmelo Anthony. Denver has an aging group with Kenyon Martin and Chauncey Billups and likely is headed down. Here’s a chance to recoup fast at a time they easily could lose Anthony in a year. So they get a potential star center and a top five pick to build a better core. And maybe pick up something for their veterans as they seem to have peaked. And Minnesota has Jonny Flynn, Love, Darko Milicic and Corey Brewer and goes for LeBron and even maybe works a sign and trade by getting Ricky Rubio to the Cavs and also LeBron out of the conference. Far fetched? Sure, but you never say never in the NBA, and perhaps more significantly, it suggests the bidding for James is hardly going to be among just the four or five teams who gutted their rosters for cap room.

That offer for Carmelo is

That offer for Carmelo is crazy.

If I was Denver...I honestly would have thought about taking it. Probably would have too.

Anthony is already talking

Anthony is already talking about extending his contract with the Nuggets. He loves it in Denver and there's no way they'd trade him right now...

LeBron would have to agree to a sign and trade... No way he'd agree to be traded to Minnesota. I think that squashes that whole idea right there.

What if he doesn't sign before the season? Then it drags out. As we see with LBJ, All it takes is a week to go from "He's staying in Cleveland" to " New York? Chicago?"

Like I said before, If I was Melo, I would go to the Eastern Conference. He would honestly be a even better player there because of his size and his ability to play the small, quick 4 position at some time.

That is too much for Anthony

That is too much for Anthony he is a great player but three first rounders and big AL. Maybe the 4th and the 23rd with big AL is a great trade for Anthony the 16th pick is too much.

I posted this before

It makes sense. They have 3 first rounders. Flynn, Jefferson, and Love. If they were to get LeBron here is what I think would happen.

Wolves trade Jefferson, 16th, and 23rd, to Sacramento for their 5th overall pick. Getting rid of Jefferson gives the T'Wolves roughly $30-$40 million to work with. (Depends on if team and player options are picked up.)
Wolves select Johnson at 4 and Monroe at 5. Wolves select Parakhouski at 45 and Latavious Williams at 56
Wolves give LeBron roughly a $20-$25 million dollar contract. If Lebron accepts than Ricky Rubio automatically comes over and signs for $5 million roughly.
The T'Wolves than sign minor free agents to add bench depth.

Rubio-Flynn-Rautins
Johnson-Brewer-Morrow
James-Gomes-Joe Alexander
Love-Williams-Gavin Edwards
Monroe-Milicic-Parakhouski

That team sounds good on paper to me. I'm just dreaming. It won't happen probably but it sounds good.

PHILADELPHIA (AP)—A 34-year-old man who ran on the field at a Phillies game to chants of “Tase him!” has been charged with marijuana possession, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and other counts.

Police say Thomas Betz, of Warminster, Pa., hopped over the left field fence at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia and ran along the warning track in the top of the ninth inning Tuesday, one day after a teenager was Tasered in the outfield.

The crowd booed and some chanted “Tase him!” Betz was taken off the field without incident.

Betz’s voicemail is full and he could not immediately be reached Wednesday.

In the wake of Monday’s encounter, police are considering whether officers should get involved in on-field chases. Officers didn’t run on the field Tuesday.

The great things about

The great things about getting "Fully Maxed" In a Sign and Trade deal.

The only way you can get as much money as possible as a Free Agent is to do a Max Contract Sign and Trade with your current team and be traded to whichever team offers more for you in trade value. Your current team is the only team that can offer this type of deal. You stand to make almost $25M more over the course of your contract instead of just signing outright with another team for a Max deal. That's no chump change.

Your current team that is trading you has to agree to the deal, meaning, they're going to want as much trade value back for you as possible. In this regard the current team has much more leverage in negotiations than the player. The only way a player can get a "Fully Maxed" deal is through this scenario. This rings especially true with the current CBA still being in effect and the new CBA looming around the corner, now is the time for players to get paid. Of course this is all dependent on players giving up possible chances to join other superstars for less money, but more success. Will it be money or success?

Obviously Lebron is never going to MN, not in any scenario, he can just take a lesser Max Contract by signing outright with a team because he's still going to make millions in endorsements, especially on one of the New York teams. But for guys like Chris Bosh and Amare Stoudemire, guys that don't necessarily make millions on endorsements every season, they have to think about getting paid while they can, especially with the old CBA still in effect, get the money while you can. The great thing for Toronto or Phoenix should Bosh or Amare want "Fully Maxed" money is that they hold all the cards, either they can just try and out right sign them to a "Full Max" contract and keep them, or sign them to a "Full Max" contract and then trade them for the best value because their the only team that can offer them that type of "Full Max' deal or let them walk and even if they sign a "Max" contract with another team Bosh or Amare still stand to lose $25M over the course of their careers instead of just agreeing to resign with their team or do a Sign and Trade to a team that offers the most value for them. So it all comes down to the same question, money or success? How about, what team would offer the most for Bosh or Amare in a Sign and Trade and still make it work financially?

Read the last paragraph very carefully

Minnesota Timberwolves president of basketball operations David Kahn has a message about Ricky Rubio. In a phone conversation today, he explained:

Don't believe anything you read, or any kind of emotional outburst, or any kind of emoting of any sort that he will not play here. Nothing could be further from the truth. I'm looking very forward to him starting his career here with the Minnesota Timberwolves in what I assume will be a year-and-a-half.

Why a year and a half?
He doesn't have a buyout at the end of this year. I'm assuming it will be difficult for him to leave. Barcelona paid a lot of money for his buyout, about $5.3 million, they're obviously going to want to amortize their investment over a couple years. There is a buyout after that, however.

How do we know what he's thinking? Can you characterize where your confidence comes from? Were you over there?
I was over there. I saw him play in Serbia a few weeks ago. We have people at most of his games. There's no reason for us to think otherwise. We developed a very solid relationship with his representatives, and more importantly, perhaps, his family, this past summer. It wasn't an issue of him having any concern about Minnesota whatsoever. I think at the end of the day he just felt that him having a couple more years in Europe would be the smart and prudent thing for him to do. He had a lot of input from his Spanish National team members, who all think he can play here, but also thought that a few more years of development would help him. I don't have any reason not to think that's true, either.

Has your view of him evolved at all, since drafting him?
I think this year he's had to play in a much more rigid system with Barcelona. It hasn't afforded him the kind of freedom he had in Badalona. But I think there's been an adjustment period, but he's made a really fine adjustment. He's on what is arguably the best team in Europe. So he's surrounded by better players, and playing at a very high level. He's not playing as many minutes, because the team is so deep. But he's starting and still playing a good 20 minutes a night.

And when I saw him I thought his upper body looked a bit bigger. His arms have more definition. I asked him. He told me he has been lifting.

He has been working very diligently on his shot ... so we shall see.

It's amusing, too, to see that a lot of people are looking at his statistics and complaining, yet they fail to make any connection to Brandon Jennings. I believe to this day that Ricky will prove to be a very special NBA player, and I fully expect him to be here in the next year-and-a-half.

you made Kaun sound like a stalker

and failed to miss the point that he's not coming over this year or next year....he may never go to the Wolves...why would he risk ruining his rep by playing for the wolves ( you get a capital w when you become a real team)
Tell Kaun to let it go...He sounds like Jim Carey in the Cable Guy....
