Just noticed that LeBron James was only 370 points off being only the 7th NBA player to pass 30,000 career points before tonight’s match and now it is only about 350 points. Although this may well take LBJ a few matches to reach this milestone, matches do come thick and fast and a few big games and he is suddenly very near.

Looking at their fixture list, I could see LBJ hitting the landmark somewhere around 2nd week to 3rd week January.

KD is a mere 250 odd points off reaching 20,000 career points so given that GSW have a busier December than the Cavs could even reach it before we go into 2018 but should certainly durability permitting attain it very early in 2018.

I actually think LBJ will break Kareem’s record. Speaking of James the year he’s having is nothing short of amazing. He’s 32/33 putting up the best numbers ever in what was already a hall of fame career.

While I believe Lebron has already peaked, he is still in his prime and has not shown any significant signs of slowing down. He is also only a few days short of 33 years old.

While that isn’t exactly young for an NBA player, we do have precedent for perimeter players still being dominant at that age a little beyond it. Kobe and MJ are great examples of this, and Lebron has proven to be more durable than either of them so far.

That’s why I’m fairly confident that at his current pace, barring any major injury, he should pass Kareem either late in the 2020-21 season or early in the 2021-22 season.

So lebron at age 32 is already the 5th scorer and 9th passer all time.

Still beating career highs in his 15th season with 200+PO games under his belt.

LBJ turns 33 soon and is aprox 8,750 points behind Kareem at the moment which if we take his career average of around 27ppg would take him about 324 games to reach which would be 4 seasons or 4 years worth. If we dropped him down to 25ppg going forward across the rest of his career then it would take him about 350 games.

So if LBJ played into 2021/22 season at something reasonably close to his current level then he’d be very close to Kareem. It would be injuries permitting and his minutes would likely be managed more as he gets older but I could see him playing until he was say 37. It isn’t impossible that he’ll reach Kareem’s totals but it will be very hard.

I think he goes all out the rest of the year, gets the Cavs back to the Finals, may even win the thing — then he skips town to the Lakers to ride out his career as one of THE GUYS on a young, up-and-coming Lakers squad.

If he DOES STAY in Cleveland, I don’t think their title window is shut yet, although it would close rather rapidly after this season.

He would be some 8,000 or so points away when he hits 30,000, and I think he can put up monster MVP-type stats for 3 more years, but after that, who knows… his skills could diminish rather rapidly late in his career, if not in his mid-30’s then in his late 30’s.

If LeBron EVER hits the wall, I think it will be between the ages of 37 and 38.

Although he could probably put up 15, 6, and 5 at the age of 45.

I think LeBron gets to 40,000 points when it is all said and done.

Figuring out what Lebron wants to do is kinda tricky but Id say there is no way he goes to the Lakers. He could never be the franchises savior or a true Laker. Theres no way to market that as he will always fall second on best Lakers lists to a guy like Kobe. Id say if he leaves Cleveland the place he would go to is New York. Imagine the buzz that he would create if he went and became the Knicks savior. New York basketball has some of the most diehard fans and have had there hearts broken time and time again. Lots of money to be made in New York as well and KP is the perfect running mate for Lebron. They would need to string together a trade to acquire an elite PG/SG that could rival the Dwayne Wade or Kyrie Irving’s of his past teams and then they would be set to compete.

LBJ has titles with Miami and the Cavs, he could stay at Cleveland and they will still be a powerhouse out East but would face Boston and probably Philly’s upside. Back to Miami may not be as silly as it sounds either – nice tax, nice weather.

But I agree the Knicks is an interesting one, if he wants to achieve Basketball immortality then bringing a title to the Knicks would do it.
