Apparently the Jazz are strongly considering drafting Gordan Hayward with the ninth pick. There is an article about it in the Deseret News today. I think it's a terrible idea. But, I read somewhere on the web the other day from a different source, something along the same lines. I'm beginning to fear there is something really to it. I pray these rumors are false. I just don't think the kid is more then a marginal role player at the next level. But it appears Jazz brass has fallen in love with him.
Anybody want to talk me down off the cliff...I'm about ready to jump.
Come down now...The Wolves want a top 10 pick...offer them The 9th for Love...it works it self out my mind...Utah would get a replacement for Boozer in the Pick and Roll...He's a better playmaker too... The Wolves get to draft either Aminu or Monroe with your pick...Love helps you now...Aminu or Monroe help going forward for the Wolves...They are trying to deal for Turner...they lose the 4th and 16th in that deal and could supplument that by trading Love another top ten pick...the 9th and 23rd picks are good spots to be in with Turner and Big Al on your roster...The Jazz get a Jazz guy...a good passer and rebounder to join a tough team...A S and T with Boozer would help them stay relevant out West
Hayward has something alot of NBA players don`t have. He knows how to play the game and makes his teammates better inspite of his physical limitations. Going into this draft he is probably one of the more complete players and has one of the higher basketball IQ`s. Teams probably figure they can inprove his athleticism and get him into great physical condition. Look at a guy like Reddick. The guy has become a physical nut. He gets credit as being the best conditioned athlete on Orlando`s squad according to VanGundy.
Bird actually became much less of an athlete as his career went along but he still played exceptionally well. People just couldn`t stop the guy no matter how fast they were or how high they jumped. Perhaps GM`s see Hayward as being the type of player who won`t need athletic tools to suceed. Sam Cassel is another one who comes to mind.
The best player for Utah would probably be Monroe assuming he's available. He'd be able to play a somewhat similar style as he dud in college in htahs offense and he wouldn't be the defense's focal point either because of Deron Williams. Hayward to Utah? He's definitely not a power forward let alone a starter. He might be able to get by in Utah because of their system and style of play but he won't be anything amazing whereas Monroe probably has a lot more to offer than does Hayward.
I guess Utah didnt learn anything from the Lakers series. They need size, not more shooters and skilled SFs.
is right. wat killed the jazz against the lakers wasnt perimeter shooting. it was their lack of size and trouble defending the paint. im thinkin the only reason they are thinking of drafting gordon is becuz they are sure they will get boozer back. Id like 2 see wat they do whether they keep him or do a sign and trade
Love your idea of Utah trading for Love, in the condition that Minny then sends the sixers the 4th and 9th for Turner. Might be asking a bit much but if they really want him...
I'm not buying this rumor. Hayward would be a great pick if not for the fact the Jazz need a player that's going to be able to help them win now. He isn't ready to contribute like that right away. He'd be best going to a team that doesn't need him to contribute immediately. A situation similar to George Hill being drafted by the Spurs in 2008 would be ideal for him.
The Jazz need to go with a big. It makes all of the sense in the world. Boozer might now return and Okur is coming off of an injury.
utah has got to go big wiht the 9
I hope they take him, that way I know Larry can't get hold of him.
I hope they take him, that way I know Larry can't get hold of him.
they have kyle korver
haywards comparsion by many people on this site
Korver is a free agent now. AK47 is next year. I hope they don't as I'd like to see the Pacers get him but I'd be happy with Monroe
No PF in this draft would be able to match Boozer's numbers. The Jazz need to re-sign Boozer and address the shortage of talent at their SG and SF positions.
PF: Boozer 6-9, Millsap 6-7
C : Okur 6-11, Koufos 7-0
As you can see, the Jazz are set at PF and C.
What the Jazz need is a talent upgrade at SG and SF.
The Jazz should be looking at wings such as Wesley Johnson, Xavier Henry, James Anderson, Paul George, Gordon Hayward and Damion James.
If the pacers draft Hayward it will be hilarious, they always reach with a white guy.
I sure hope this isn't true. The dude isn't a shooter (there goes the korver comparison) and his wingspan is negative compared to height (think t-Rex). He could turn into an okay reserve. I've been anti Patterson here but after looking at his height, he is pretty much the same as udoh and isnt much off from Monroe in terms of standing reach. Given that, he probably has more offensive upside than those guys.
Also, I keep thinking whiteside is too long and athletic to pass on though he could be the next Luther wright knowing the jazz's first round draft luck. Do they do pysch analysis now.? Perhaps that will prevent another Luther.
If we can use this pick to get love, I'd be happy. He is known for what he can do.
I might be the only person that thinks Wesley Johnson will slip in the draft...Utah could use his athleticism and outside shooting..But Utah need size......A defensive presence..That can Combat the large frontlines in the West...Whiteside,Udoh or Aldrich will be there...But haven't you guys learned that sometimes its better to select the best player and not for need ?Some people gave Toronto a hard time when they picked Charlie V a few years ago..Last season people were wondering what in the Hell was New Orleans thinking when they selected Darren Collison? Hayward is going to be a special player..Just y'all watch...2 Players that i think might be sleepers are Hamady N'Diaye & the 7 footer from Radford..They're be there in the 2nd round
You just know that he is going to go to either Utah or Indy..it's a given. No way a pretty talented white guy slips past them both..
Utah has size already... and depth.
PF: Boozer 6-9, Millsap 6-8
C : Okur 6-11, Koufos 7-0, Fesenko 7-0
The Jazz need a major talent upgrade at SG and SF.
1st round: Draft a wing such as Wesley Johnson, Xavier Henry, James Anderson, Paul George, Gordon Hayward or Damion James.
2nd round: Draft a defensive presence like 6-11 Hamady N'Diaye.
that would be one of the worst pick in draft History!!!!Wasted pick by Utah!!
Cyclo..a few points
1.) Boozer is more than likely gone this offseason, and even if he stays, he's a 6'9" PF (undersized) who gives limited effort on D.
2.) Milsap is only 6'8", which is generally considered undersized for a PF/C. He plays bigger than his size on the boards, but it really hurts him when he is trying to defend in the post.
3.) Okur isn't exactly a banger in the post on either end of the floor, and plays more like a guard than a true center. His lack of athleticism kills him both on perimeter and post D. Plus, his latest injury (achilles) could be somewhat of a career-killer
4 &5.) Both of those players (Fesenko and Koufos) should not see the floor for more than 8 or 10 minutes a game, max.
6.) Wes Johnson won't be there at 9, Henry-Anderson-Hayward really don't project to be more than spot up players on offense in my eyes, which is essentially what they have with Wes Matthews/Korver already, and there is no way Damion James gets drafted at 9. (although I do think he is a huge steal if he falls all the way to 29 like he currently does in the mock)
Paul George would be a solid pick though.
7.) The Lakers exploited the Jazz's lack of Post D, and their bigs dominated the series, shooting 57% from the floor and getting to the line 13 times per game.
If the Jazz draft Whiteside, Aldrich, or Udoh with the 9th pick, it will greatly effect their defense in a positive way, because they will finally have a true shot-blocker who won't get man-handled in the post.
A jumpshooting wing, on the other hand, leaves them basically in the same boat they are in right now.
I agree that we take top talent. But we really need size. If we could trade down, get a big like Love and still get a player like hayward and george (if we think as you put it, they are special), then I'm all for it.
I'm moving away from udoh right now. He really isn't that big. I've been so impressed with what the lopez boy has done against LA. Length is really making a difference there. I really wish Utah had 10 guys to play... That second unite could be a great team!
So, we either really get length like a aldrich or whiteside, or we go talent like a patterson, george, henry type player...
Interesting read. My concern is his lateral foot speed. These guys seem to think he could defend at the 2. That makes him a bit more interesting to me. Jazz do need a small forward. I'd been hoping for top ones like johnson or aminu which are more than likely gone, but perhaps hayward and george would be good.
Can we sucker the t-wolves into switching picks so we get one of these guys later and get k-love?
