With 3 games to go, many are praying New York or Phoenix squeezes or doesn’t squeeze into the playoffs. However, like many on here, my team is out and I just want my team to get the most ping pong balls. Now, suddenly there’s a four team race for 3rd-worst place (maybe just 4th). Exciting? Who gets the ping pong balls then? Where do we end up?

Currently…

Lakers 25-54 (yet to play Grizzlies, Jazz, Spurs)
Celtics 24-55 (yet to play Cavs, 76ers, Wizards)
Jazz 24-55 (yet to play Nuggets, Lakers, Timberwolves)
Magic 23-56 (yet to play Nets, Bulls, Pacers)

I kept the Magic on here because they are 4-6 in their last ten. However, they have the hardest schedule. The Celtics have the easiest schedule: a Sixers game is a guaranteed win and they’ll probably win one between the Cavs and Wizards game. The Lakers and Jazz are the real toss up. The Lakers have taken out all of their players because of “injuries.” Because of that, I assume the Jazz will beat them. Probably.

3rd Worst Prediction- Magic 24-58
4th Worst Prediction- Lakers 25-57
5th Worst Prediction- Jazz 25-57
6th Worst Prediction- Celtics 26-56

Some Lottery Odds on those predictions. 

Lakers – 40% chance at a top 3 pick (gotta like those odds of getting a new star in L.A.)

Celtics – 21% chance at a top 3 pick, 74% at 6 or 7th pick (Will be fun to see what moves they pull after the ping pong balls are drawn)

Philly – 45% chance of the 4 or 5 pick (would that be a disaster to rebuilding plans? Still stuck without a franchise player)

the 4th or 5th pick, Philly can get a very good player. Will get at least Randle or Exum, and could have a chance at Embiid, in which case they either trade that pick or deal away Noel. Not what they were going for, but I’m not so sure it derails the rebuild.

If the Lakers tied for fourth, they would actually have about a 33% chance of landing a top-three pick.

 If they tie I believe its a coin flip. The onlt position where the combinations would be divided equally is if 6th and 7th tie I want to say.  All other cases (where the combinations equal a non integer number) will be resolved with a coin flip to determine who gets the better position.

Really? Coin flip? I though it worked like playoffs where the team who beat the other team more often was considered to have the better record.

They’re always divided as equally as possible in the event of a tie. If they don’t average out evenly, the coin-flip determines who gets the (one) remaining ping-pong ball and the better position if neither team scores a top-three lottery position.
