I would like to address one of the most serious debates amongst professional sporting entertainment.Relocation. Before I get started I would like to state this is a business,Don’t forget the Entertainment Business is most definitely the Sporting Business. The City, County and or State of each NBA Team, it’s fans, management, and ownership must be dedicated to fulfilling each obligation required to keep their Franchise. If a team is losing money by the Hundred Millions, has a horrible fanbase or just loses with no signs of improving they do not deserve the Franchise plain and simple. If the fans dont like it they need to voice their opinions and not accept failure, be more critical towards GM’s decisions and really press their Franchise for success. Don’t complain about it when it’s too late.

Chris Milam,CEO of International Development Management LLC has made it his mission to bring an NBA Franchise to Las Vegas, Nevada. Milam has publicly stated he has an NBA Team under contract to relocate to Las Vegas as long as he can manage to build a suitable arena within the city of Las Vegas. Although he isn’t only focused on the basketball aspect of this proposed arena, he also expects to secure an NHL team and have UNLV play home games in the currently hyped “Silver State Arena”. Milam expects to create 4000 jobs building the arena, and 7000 jobs when the arena is complete for the state. The project is currently being delayed do to the fact that this will be a $125 Million dollar hit for the district and the current zoning plan is not correct do to traffic issues of major proportions. Commissioners discussed the possibility optimistically, questioning if he really had an NBA team under contract because proof of that would increase approval and even debating on whether allowing citizens to vote for the arenas construction would be a good idea despite the tax hit. Milam has withdrawn his latest proposal and is still working on the process.

Bright lights, steadily increasing city population, tourist attraction, lack of any sporting franchise, and arguably the best State for Basketball development in the country would make Las Vegas, Nevada a great place for an NBA Franchise. The State currently holds two top class NCAA, division-1 teams, Nevada and UNLV. Henderson is home of one of the countries best highschool teams “Findlay Prep” who recently won a National Title, and moulded the likes of Avery Bradley, Corey Joseph, Tristan Thompson, Myck Kabongo, and Nick Johnson in the 2009/10/11 classes. The money would flow in Vegas, the people of Nevada are waiting desperately for a sports team, and the population is increasing. You know your wife would rather you go to the Basketball game then the Strip club on your trip to Vegas. It all looks like a perfect fit. So why do they not have any sports Franchises?

Most potential owners are worried about the limelight. You are giving young “kids” basically. multimillion dollar contracts, right next to the worlds most entertaining gambling spots, strip clubs, fights etc, What you tell these kids who usually have lived a sheltered life of basketball tournaments and yes men is that they shouldnt go do these FUN, EXCITING, MINDBLOWING things that are right in front of their face every day. Any normal man would crack under that kind of pressure. The media may not rival that of New York or Los Angeles although it could still be pretty intense somewhat like, Dallas, Toronto, or Houston. Las Vegas is also known as one of the “dirtiest” cities in the world as far as entertainment scandal goes, and has an infamous record with gang violence and mafia violence, Tupac’s death can prove that.

With all this said, the deciding factor in this is still…MONEY. The owners will get money from moving to Vegas, but will Chris Milam get the State of Nevada to agree with his zoning plan. I say yes, the squeaky wheel usually gets the grease. If Milam keeps proposing his plan of increasing economic value and job rates for the State he wont be denied.

    RELOCATION RADAR

    #1-The Golden State Warriors
    — It is unfortunate yes but the fact is despite the fans bringing this Franchise up from the dead with great passion and will, with unmatched effort from owners, players, and management the number one team on my Relocation Radar is Golden State. Since Chris Cohan purchased the franchise in 1995 for $120 Mil he ran the franchise into the ground, allowing bad personnel decisions that seem to never get fixed, seeing locker rooms filled with tension, and power happy coaches who make bad on and off court decisions. The Golden State Warriors have become a joke. The only imaginable defense worse than the Warriors is the Toronto Raptors “81 Kobe” Team…see, a joke. Cohan purchased the Franchise for $120 Mil and somehow made it worse, so how is it he sold it for a record breaking $450 Mil. Seems to me someone really wanted that Franchise. Kinda weird that Chris Milam stated that he has an NBA Team under contract to relocate the same day the Golden State Warriors are sold, July 14th. Oakland fans should be used to teams coming and going anyways…*Cough Cough, Oakland Raiders, LA Raiders, Oakland Raiders Cough Cough*

    #2- The LA Clippers
–Donald Sterling maybe the worst Owner for the worst Franchise in the history of sports entertainment. In the last 20 years the Clippers have only had 4 playoff Teams and in the last 30 years they have only had 5 winning records. this is mostly do to lack of passion from the owner (who doesn’t even know about offseason signings), and horrible scouting and personnel decisions. When the owner cannot trust the people he signs to manage the team, the team is in trouble. In 25 years the Clippers have drafted 1 Player to make the Allstar game as a Clipper. A move to Vegas along with the rebuilding around players such as Blake Griffin along with shaking free of being the second team in LA could drastically improve their chances of success.

    #3- The Detroit Pistons
    — Recent reports have indicated Magic Johnson is interested in owning the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons are amongst the Top 5 in Franchsie revenues in the League. To be honest I do not believe the Pistons are going anywhere. Although I do believe that the people of Detroit and fans of the Detroit Pistons do not deserve an NBA Franchise and if one NBA team was to be relocated I would have no sympathy. the other day I thought differently, but when I watched the Pistons, Pacers brawl more closely I realized what a disgrace the fans of the Detroit Pistons displayed that night. After a scrum with the Pistons and Pacers players Ron Artest who was more like a victim of a Ben Wallace retaliation after a hard foul was instigated by a Detroit Piston fan while laying on the announcers table. The fan chucked a cup of what seemed to be an alcoholic beverage at artest which triggered a brawl throughout the Stadium, fans were on the court fighting Pacers players, and players where in the seats fighting Pacers fans. Alot of people say they shouldnt be punished for a few bad apples decisions, but if you watch the tape it was the whole fanbase involved in chucking, roaring, and targeting Pacers players. That night their were a few good apples in the Stadium. Maybe some people would agree with me, maybe some would not, but communities should not continue to be rewarded with the grace of an NBA Franchise when they cant stop people from acting that way.

Sacramento was on my list but they have made a commitment and a promise to the people of Sacramento to succeed.

Minnesota and Memphis were on my list as well but I really dont see either having the money or brains to relocate.

What are your thoughts on relocation and what teams do you think are the team that has committed to Chris Milam?

y would detroit not be worthy of a team??? cuz of a brawl that happened like 6 years ago?? imo, i think another team’s stands wouldve done the same thing too if that magnitude of a fight were to break out… its not like the WHOLE crowd was throwing stuff…. a lot of people were terrified when that happened in the stands, not everyone was wanting to throw stuff at the pacer players

The whole thing was disgusting. If anyone is not worthy it is them. Alot of people blame Ron Artest for that brawl, but the blame should lie sqaurely on Ben Wallace for pushing Artest and on the fans for throwing alchohol at him. They were picking on artest and Artest retaliated. Plain and simple. You have ti respect Steven Jackson for the way he stood up for Ron Ron.

Ben Wallace does deserve alot of blame. If I remember, he was coming back after a death in the family too, so there were tons of emotions already there.

I think the best team to move is the Clippers. If I’m David Stern, I’m helping this man TAKE the Clippers from Donald Sterling.

I would take detroit off that list. One brawl doesnt mean they should lose the franchise. The fan who threw the drink was an ass, but then ron and the player just ran into the stands and started attacking completly innocnet fans. I can promise you if I were in the arena and i see some guy just standing there and an nba player ran up on him and started attacking, i would be right in the mix swinging at the players. Ron made it a players vs fans situation, not the other way around.

All of that sounds good but I dont think vegas is a sports town yes they do show up for events but they dont even support UNLV they have had a good basketball squad for the last 3-4 years and they dont even sell out games. I live in vegas now and it would be nice to have a pro team here but if in the long run I dont believe it would work out here. Most people that live here are from other places and their loyalty is to their tems yes i would probably go to a bulls game when they played the bulls but who is gonna go when the vegas team plays a bad team I dont think it will work. Also if they try and get rid of the gambling aspect of it a lot of people definitely wont support it betting on basketball is a big thing to a lot of people out here. Those are just some of my opinions about the situation.
