I really like the bucks pickjing this guy. he can play power forward and center, a great athlete, and is a monster on the boards and defense. he showed a pretty solid mid range game in the summer league and even showed the ability 2 hit the 3. im pretty excited to see this guy playing and i think he has the potential to start for this team at the 4 by the middle of the season. the bucks are gonna be serious contenders soon!

I would just like to say with a little bit of coaching, larry sanders could be a very solid and polished offensive power forward with excellent natural rebounding/shot-blocking tools

Eh man I don’t see that Cliff Robinson comparison at all. Robinson was a below average rebounder and had zero shot blocking. He had great help D but that was the extent of his defensive abilities. Robinson was one of the better big man shooters in the past 20 years. If you want a comparison for Clifford Robinson I’d probably say Channing Frye. I’ve watched lots of CAA basketball and I am a huge fan of Sanders but he is nothing like Robinson. Larry Sanders is a rim protector. Freakishly long arms and great athleticism. He needs to stay on his feet more but he can easily step in and average more than 2 blocks a night. Offensively while he’s ever evolving and improving his jump shot he isn’t a consistent shooter. He can knock down the occasional 3 but he won’t make that consistently. In terms of post offense he’s fairly limited. He has shown however the ability to run the pick and roll when Eric Maynor was playing with him, but that was less evident last year with shoot first PG Joey Rodriguez. I think Sanders has potential to be a 14+8+2 type guy with the ability to play either the 4 or 5.

Good comparison if he puts on 20 pounds. Also his offensive game doesnt have that upside and his shot blocking has more of a cieling.

Other than that its a solid comparison although if NBA GM’s thought that a poor mans Cliff Robinson with more shot blocking is his consensus comparison he probally would have gone Top 10 in the draft. I just dont see him putting on the weight.

Well as a Bucks fan i too did like Milwaukee taking him at 15. Sanders is a great athlete, long arms, versatile, and a good shot blocker. With him coming off the bench and who knows, maybe even starting later in the season makes my Bucks a contender this year. And no, there is no way i would compare him to Ben Wallace. Sanders is more capable than Wallace offensively. GO BUCKS!!!

I love Sanders as a prospect, but you guys saying he makes the Bucks a contender are LOCO. He isn’t even close to ready to start for a good team IMO, and thats not saying I dont like him, but he is still very raw. He can shoot a little, but he isnt a good shooter yet, doesnt have any handle yet, and needs 10 lbs. Give him and the bucks some time. When the Celtics get old and the Hawks lose some free agents, look for them to slide into the top 4 in the East behind Miami, Chicago, and Orlando. In 2 years or so, depending on the pieces they aquire, look out.

I don’t think anyone is saying Sanders makes them a contenders, but he certainly is a piece. I don’t think the Bucks are serious threats to beat the Heat or Magic but they definitely aren’t a fringe playoff team anymore. They are securely in that 3-6 range IMO. They were 5th in the East and took the Hawks to 7 games last year despite losing Bogut as well as Jennings 2nd half of the year struggles. To that they have been able to re-sign Salmons, they have added a capable near 20 ppg scorer in Maggette, and they add 2 much needed low post bodies in Gooden and Sanders. Their front line depth was so horrendous last year that in the playoffs last year Kurt Thomas was their best big. They had Carlos friggin Delfino playing PF along with Ilyasova a natural 3. I think this top to bottom is one of the better teams in the east once you add Bogut back into the equation and assume Jennings to have a natural progression and maturity in his game. I’d be stoked if I were a Bucks fan. Their lineup is very good. As a continuation from last year they should be solid defensively, really their big weakness is only perimeter shooting, although they do have capable guys. It wouldn’t hurt them either to add a pass first PG to backup Jennings, but great team, with great defenders, hell Dooling is an underrated defensive PG.

Larry Sanders is a guy i was not high on at first because I thought he was too skinny but the more I did my researched and watched his game, I was like maybe he can be a Noah type and I was surprised at his versatility offensive wise because I originally thought he had no offense game and now it seem it just needs to refine it. He will be a really good player because he is long, active and can still be better and has a little big more offensive than I thought. He could be at worst a Theo Ratliff clone or a at best a Marcus Camby Type.

Huh? Milwaukee actually plays like a small market team ( I.E- Get’s little contracts, build in the draft). Cleveland went overboard and payed too much money for #3 talents.

Anyway, I think Sanders will be solid in the rotation this season. I think the Bucks will have to make a mid season move to get a legit post player at the PF spot. I think he could get some time and eventually could start by his 2nd-3rd season.

Yeah they have Jennings and Bogut, 2 future (and current) impact players at the 2 most important positions. They also can build through the draft and keep those 2, they just have to make sure they make the right moves. This offseason was a solid start.

I see Larry Sanders as a Tyrus Thomas type. The thing with him is….he didn’t get picked too high and his expectations are more reasonable than Thomas’. He can be brought along slowly, and play an energy role and block shots right now. He’s a guy that’s at least 2 years away from being a starter, and with Gooden’s deal he can be mentored by a saavy vet at his spot.

I think he’ll get 5 ppg, 4 rpg, and a block next year as a rookie in around 15 mpg.

I really do think that he could be the starting PF for the Bucks after some months. He has more upside than Mbah a Moute or Ilyasova and could be a very good weakside shotblocker alongside Bogut. He worked hard to expand his game and has range up to 20 feet. He’s a hard worker on offense and defense and could be a defensive glue guy for the Bucks

He’s not though. They didn’t pay Gooden to not play, at least not to have his position taken after “a couple of months.” They would be wise to use him off the bench until he’s ready. He’s not strong enough or a good enough rebounder to play against NBA PF’s for starter minutes.

He needs to bulk up if he wants consistent minutes at the PF spot but he can develop into a solid player to me, not only is he a great defensive player he has shown a ton of versatility on offense, with an array of post moves and even consistency on the perimeter hitting down mid range and 3 point shots, he will play a considerable amount of minutes his rookie season but obviously will assume a bench role. Could become a very serviceable player though
